Immersion - Is Neverwinter immersive enough?

Hey everyone,

Long time stalker, first time poster, all time champion ;)

I was wondering what peoples' views were of Neverwinter's ability to immerse the player? I know that there are a lot of things done well - voice acting, cinematic scenes, some animations, lore etc. but do all of these things make you feel immersed in the game? I'm someone that rarely feels immersed in any game - even games like Skyrim and Dragon Age: Inquisition don't make me feel particularly immersed (they are close, though).

I ask because I don't ever feel particularly immersed by the gameplay of Neverwinter. It's a fun game for me (at the moment) but that's all it is; a game. I feel like certain things (like animations, skyboxes, player-nonplayer interactions etc.) could be improved subtly to greatly improve the immersion of Neverwinter. One thing I would be particularly interested to see is a day/night cycle. Protector's Enclave is always at a state of mid-afternoon, until we recently had Lliiara's Celebration. For the first time since beginning to play this game, I saw Protector's Enclave at night. It was awesome. I think the game could really benefit from adding more ambiance and immersion to the game.

Anyway, let me know what you think!

With mindflayers and other @#$% wandering protector's enclave, I say otherwise. Along with the thousands of easy to kill dragons.

To me NWO is quite immersive. And this is *drumroll* a major reason for me to enjoy it.

But I have setup things to hide the digital pin ball impressions away. In Options: hide all numbers popping up, hide all names expect when in target, hide all NPC names, just hide everything. In HUD: hide minimap and tracker. And voila, there is a mostly undisturbed view into a nicely rendered high fantasy world. Oh, and of course hide zone chat, which is an extremely cruel immersion breaker, or tiny the box away to just four lines.

Well, I can't hide the bunny hopping courtesans in PE. Or all the glimmer and shining from all those super epic heroes riding their awesome mounts, crowding the places. *giggle, no offense*

With this setup the leveling experience up to Sharandar is quite immersive, I feel. When the final campaigns (Sharandar, Dread, Icewind and WoD) open up, the experience of getting into a grind loop sneeks in. That is why I miss the opportunity to sometimes visit older foundry entries, some of which have been very well done. And so I very much welcomed the Dwarven King story line, and the Maze Engine story lines. I can't comment on guild strongholds, I avoid group grinding and drama, but I can very well imagine some kind of roleplaying on Stronghold map.

So. Using propper setup, knowing what to avoid and taking the grind with some patience, I feel NWO is a well done immersive high fantasy experience, and at times funny.

This is true, unfortunately i can not experience the game in such high level, since i play it on laptop mostly.
( But the few times i did play it on a high settings / all shiney / omg what is this , this is not my game ) made me really wonder and it was totally amazing.

I know people usually skip cut scenes if it is possible but just for the fun of it i went to review all the ones again just to see it properly. I was not disappointed. =)
