You get 24% damage increase on 2 stacks of AtoS, with 5 points in Serpents Bite this turns into 34% damage increase. There are threads about with people who have tested it.

most hr´s are using lone wolf(20%+deflect), that's why its not recommended. i still prefer the damage increase over the defense, since i build my hr around crit/lifesteal (more dmg = more lifesteal).
if you have any questions feel free to contact me ingame (Attentus@wollebieee 4,2k HR)

I think you're mixing up Serpent's Bite with Aspect of the Serpent? Either way, I'd argue that most Trappers slot both of these, and then either slot Lone Wolf, Pack, or some other.

im back to lonewolf + crushing roots, in the end you will always hit for peanuts but the char is more well rounded. lets be serious, hr are hardly killing anything anyways.

Depends - are we talking PVE or PVP? If the latter, yes, I'd agree. For PVE, though? Dps is actually quite good.
Re: Lone Wolf, I find it's useful if (1) you have deflection to begin with, and this can boost it through the roof vs. multiple enemies; and (2) you're fighting multiple enemies. Otherwise, I'd slot something more useful. On a 1 v 1, that's a class slot for...5% deflect. So if you're sitting at < 10% deflection before Lone Wolf, this isn't going to turn you into a tank. But if you're sitting at, say, 25%, and fighting 5 enemies in PvE? Yeah, that's a huge difference, and will be noticeable.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the statement that HR's dont do much damage in PvP.
We are not a burst class, our damage must be set up. We have 6 encounters and 4 at-wills. If you use them all in rapid succession and in the correct order (combined with the correct stat build) your dps output can get pretty ridiculous. Our place is in team fights since our optimal encounter setups include a few aoe's. Our damage may less than that of say a GWF or GF but it comes with more utility (ranged/melee aoe CC, short dazes, slight dps reduction from our HT at-will).
1) im going to hit some shield gf/cw, probably oneshotted by the first one when missing a dodge 2) going to crash myself on unstoppable, 0 thorned roots ticks, im lucky if i eat the temp hp. Oneshotted when savage daily is up. 3) tr is getting thorned roots ticks totally deflected, number of ticks limited, 0 if wearing elven battle. killed after a couple of courage breaker. 4) sw just overheals whatever thing i throw at him, stacking sparks is way too easy for dazes to help me. 5) DC/OP lets not talk about it.
i mean in pve serpent is perfect, in pvp even assuming in not dying 30% more of peanuts is still peanuts. At least 20% deflect more is something i can put trust on with eye closed.

I dunno, I run lonewolf and crushing in pvp, for 50+ deflect, and stack power with the twisted set, arpen's about 90 and a bit, power is I think between 27 and 28k in pvp. Trans fey, trans elven, mythic oghma. With the queue problems atm. I've only been in about 10 matches or so and I'm guessing that some of the bis players/premade teams are holding off on pvp till the queue/disconect problems are fixed. That said however, this mod so far I've been chewing up a lot more gwfs than I ever used to, as long as I play well, and if I play really well, GFs too. DCs remain immortal, and pallies too though less so. SWs, well they die like they always did, but then I've not met one with a name I know yet in the matches I've played.
Might be just wishful thinking or my imagination, but I think the mod9 HR is better off than before. The turning point in my build has been becomming a great deal more resistant to cc, and having nearly infinite dodges and even stupider AP generation than before, unless some damn drainer TR bloodbaths or couragebreaks me, with some of the new insignia buffs.
Overall, I'm really happy, my favourite class is worth playing again in domination.

I agree although I am a mod behind now as I play on the X1 but I post here as the Mods are pretty close now. I have the basic Blue PvP gear from the Guild and I have been doing extremely well in PvP, cant wait to get better PvP gear.
Well in Siege and GG I have been doing very well, sometimes 9-10 kills to 1 death or whatever... I have not learnt the art of retreat yet lol, I stay and fight even 5 vs Me I just try my best and fight lol. Now in 5 vs 5 Dom it really is not worth doing unless you go in there with a pre-made group... That is where I get wrecked if I try to PUG it.
I have discovered that is usually takes multiple people to kill me, but if I see anyone on there own I generally win the battle... unless its a DC then I spend 10mins chasing him/her across the map until their team-mates come and kill me.
I`ll post my current Build soon on the X1 forum, it is viable for PvE and PvE with just a couple of things tweaked to be able to PvP reasonably well.
I actually do not use Lone Wolf any more in PvP, my defence is at 10k along with 3k Deflect and find this works fairly well. I have also found that Oak Skin works just as well as Lone Wolf so I use one or the other. Oak Skin is perm regen even during combat and raises DR by around 12%. If Oak Skin is not in my rotations I tend to put Lone Wolf back on... But this allows for a combo of AotS and Crushing Roots for PvP.
I appreciate posts, hints and help from people like rayrdan on these forums but lately all his posts just seem like doom and gloom. HR is dead this mod, HR is dead last mod, HR is useless in PvP etc etc... But for me it has never been the case. (I do not mean that as an insult rayrdan dude).

I think raydan and I just have a hell of a lot of ad and time invested in our toons, and bemoan the fact that the HR class isn't where it was a couple of mods ago. Doesn't mean we don't love the class though
Still, the nerf to temp HP has helped us a lot when we go up against gwfs. And god, killing gwfs has always been my tip top favourite pvp thing to do.

Yeah I can understand that, change is sometimes hard for people to take sometimes and I myself do not like change very much ha ha.
Anyhoo lately I have had some amazing 1 vs 1 battles with GWF's. A couple of times in Siege we have been whittling each others HP down, I could see his Temp HP each time he used a power and little by little is was shrinking. Both of us used the Wheel at various times and I felt it was truly down to skill and not luck who wins the battle in the end.

Me and the guy I was fighting, we were both popping forest meditation like crazy, sometimes at the same time, so it looked like we had called a truce and decided to have a picnic.
