I'm on the fence here. I think stat and power creep are out of hand. I don't mind respeccing. But Cryptic is just too cryptic about the way they handle such things. At least now we have an open window on how stats work.

A shake-up would be good for bowling league PVP, I think. Many of us that have given into the stat creep in PVP would probably walk. I would not at this point. The soft caps could be quite high and still do some good.

The caps would probably nerf SH boons into the ground.

PvE - Issue is power creep and lack of progressively more challenging content to try and work for. Can't stress enough how useless it is to be even 3k IL in PvE when you can already beat everything much earlier. This game needs to find the dragon balls and wish for a reset button
PvP - There's about 20 things that should be looked at first
3.5k HB Temptation -- Dread Legion
    Xbox GT -- Mr Shabok

So we had softcaps once and it didn't do a dam thing. Now you want them back because for some miraculous reason they would make it better now? What reality do you live in? It's clearly not the same one I'm in. Doing the same thing twice and expecting different results merely makes you look uneducated.

I was nowhere near softcaps in Mod 5, so I can't say for sure. But if soft caps are something to merely work around, I'd have to vote no.

Santralafax, soft caps soften the difference from a geared player to a lesser geared. That's the major difference, the fact that content will be more enjoyable as a result is just a side effect.

Obviously people that don't like any challenge in life would vote No to mantain their status. It's like saying to a rich to pay its taxes...

OK, back on the fence, then. I've never really swayed one way or the other. If we had hardcaps people would have to focus on skill and innovation beyond a certain point.

I think the OP missed the part where this game's PVP is intentionally P2W. Nice poll, but think it all the way through: The power creep is on purpose. The unfair advantage achieved by paying real money is on purpose. This isn't some kind of conspiracy or anything, the devs have made it quite clear that they want to earn money from making and maintaining this game. People don't spend hundreds of dollars for MMO cosmetics like they used to a few years ago. That ship has sailed, and the marketplace has made some decisions for these devs concerning design and mechanics. They kinda don't have a choice here. If it was fair and easy for anyone to get into elite PVP, then it would cease to be "special" (worth extra money). As it is now, you either pay your cash or get annihilated, which is how it should be, if your goal is to produce a game that makes money in the current climate.

If people see it as p2w no one join the game because they already know it's p2w and those unaware of it that join will run away after.

Correct. You have just described the current state of PVP in Neverwinter. Unless you are prepared to get out your money, I would highly advise skipping lvl 70 PVP and sticking to PVE.

As for whether this is a "good" thing or not... it sure seems shady from a f2p perspective, but that's because of the predator/prey relationship. Nobody enjoys being the tired old zebra in a fight with a hungry lion.

Path of exile. Only sells cosmetics, has a larger playerbase then NWO, completely f2p.

old stats system was the best thing this game had back then we had bis toons to so ppl would still buy rank 12
current system is horrible and game breaking they need at least cap crtic or change curves on it

Shall we ignore the $1000 (that is not a typo) custom content thingy they have going on there? The game has a lot of F2pers and a high following because a number of folks have ponied up $1000 a piece in exchange for the chance to have something they designed end up as part of the game. They paid to help develop the content.

So yes, PoE may not be "pay to win" so much as "pay to be game-famous". It can be argued quite persuasively that PoE holds the moral high ground as far as comparisons to Cryptic games, but they are not doe-eyed innocents, either. If it wasn't for the ppl ponying up for the shot at glory, that game would be underwater by now.

There need to be hard caps. All of this power creep is killing PVP and PVE. Any content over 2.5k IL seems to be off the table for the foreseeable future, so why do we need so much power and crit? Soloing dungeons?

Well if any player feel that way is a solution put everything is op in the bank and then go run the dungeon. I am not trolling. Player ask why so much power ( and i am talking about pve now) and the next minute buying the best companions knowing they are op. Then coming a new player and says: i cant get those companions and even worse slot on them bonding rank 12 to get the answer : YOU DONT need enchants higher than rank 7 for this content.
What i want to say is : we see the difficulty is ridiculous easy and we go support the company bying the companions paying for coalescents for rank 12 bondings and then we get angry because they dont release hard content. THEY release whatever they want based on what brain we have!
