Changing map instance in Icewind Dale

After joining a group in a different map instance in Icewind Dale, how can I move to their map instance? The HUD options for their character has the "Move to their instance" option grayed out and the main menu option for changing map instances does not allow me to change either.

I have had other players come to my map instance after joining their party, so I know it can be done, but I have not yet figured out how to do it myself.

Travel to Caer Kong, then back to IWD Pass using the big doors
