Is this set good for Archery based HRs? I know that typically it's not good for trappers, since it's mostly DoT dmg, but with Archery using a lot of split-shot, and Cordon of Arrows, is it a good set?
The problem with archers is survivability. You can be a glass canon. If you have the Lostmauth set, then try to use artifacts that give you buffs to defense and deflect. Also make sure you use a defender for a companion, and use the gear that gives them threat generation. The more enemies don't hit you, the longer you can do more damage.

Most strikers have that issue. It's a good idea to invest into lifesteal/deflect. Defense doesn't do enough unless you sacrifice everything for every single point in it, and besides, lifesteal yields better bang for the buck in the end. I could survive everything in solo, except WoD lairs. Even as trapper now those places are hell.

Is the Valindra set any good for a Trapper, or should I sell the shard and keep farming for LoL?

The lostmauth set is very good for archers. 15-20% damage bonus, or so. Not so good for trappers, for them around 5 percent damage. (roots probably dont proc lostmauth). Still I'd go woth lol set, since you never know, when you would change to archer. Also Valindra has too much recovery for trapper, which is wasted, where Lostmauth just covers the armorpen part. They already have enough control, for pve valindra is unnecessary i'd say. For pvp, idk, lostmauth would be still better i'd guess, due to the damage bonus and armorpen bonus.
My story is truly a grand tale! Of course, any story about me is going to be grand simply by virtue of the main character.
There is a (good) chance the Lostmauth set will be adjusted in mod 8. Starting to build a Lostmauth set now only to see it heavily nerfed before it is fully levelled could hurt.
So at this time it might be the better option to save up towards mod 8 and see what happens then.

The problem with the Lostmauth set is the amount of Resistance Ignored it gives. If you are running with any variant of the Assault set you will already have oodles of ArP. The belt gives added Strength and all three pieces of the set give ArP iirc, which is more RI likely not needed.

I'm a trapper and I use one. The stats are perfect, and the pluses to dex and str are pretty good too. Even if it gets nerfed mod 8, I can't imagine changing, unless something new comes out.
