I agree with alot of the previous two post, you can't force a community together, look at the troubles in Africa and the middle east where different peoples were forced into arbitrary states following colonialism.
A good Dungeon Master never, (OK rarely), forces his players into a situation, it's much more amusing to let them find different ways to get into trouble, Ok a smart DM may have made 3 paths that end up with them chasing the evil wizard to the same place, a dumb DM would have 1 path littered with unavoidable traps.
Some of my most vivid memories of early Everquest, were running across hostile terrain to a safe spot, to look or WAIT for a group. Ok the run may have taken 45 mins, waiting for a spot in High Hold Keep basement may take 20, but you know what I could tradeskill items that I could sell for profit while waiting, I could talk to the people in the zone, We were all in the same boat, we had things to talk about even if we'd never met before, that is what fostered community. In an open world, we'd chosen to be where we were.
Also it was shiny and new and, uhm we had no alternative except the basement on fridays with the guys, the dice and a lot of cheetos. And at least the you couldn't smell the guys on line.
I think the reality is, we're not talking a good GM.
My cat, who claims to be psychic, says she's sure there are those in Cryptic who agree, but simultaneously fear the legendary ego of said GM and prefer to safely 'keep their mouths shut and their kibble dishes full.'
She nods sagely at the importance of a full kibble dish. It drives the world.
To me, this has the feel of a punative GM, who think he knows what's best for his players.
Who knows. This may be a perfect storm of a seriously boring mod, loss of players and revenue, an attempt to generate more revenue to make up for the loss of previously paying players (to please the GM's bosses, not the players), poor leadership skills (see bad GM, with the attitude of 'I know what's best for you'), all working in concert to make... rather unhappy players. Who, as long as they're still spending money, are 'happy players' as far as the GM is concerned.
See? Spreadsheet says we made more money last month. Everything is good.
Bad GM's... never take responsibility. Always the player's fault. If players leave, it's because they were crappy players, not the GM's fault. They didn't understand their role, their purpose, or they were just too stupid to play right.
Bad GM's tend to forget you catch more flies with honey. They don't need to explain 'why'. They're always right by default.
And in this instance, as long as the spreadsheet says they are making more money... they ARE right. And we are stupid.
Mine's leveling fine after 60...but,..don't expect places that the game up-levels you to 70 to work well till you're actually 70.

It's outrageously bad, I will not spend money on mine new toon until it will be fully leveled up! I can't stand this endless grind!
I got my GWF alt up to lvl 66 during the double XP event by finishing Drowned Shore, Reclamation Rock and the first zone in Spinward Rise. I just can't anymore - I will take my time now and get him to lvl 70 by doing ToD campaign and invoking only. Think I may even craft the MH instead of completing SR.
Our pain is self chosen.

Not spending any more money, until they come to their senses and start working on the NWO top issues:
1. XP to level from 60-70, XP to fill the overflow
2. difficulty
3. bugs and exploits
when those things do change for a better and not get even worse, i might consider to spend money again.
