I was watching a review by IrishTrekkie of the Eaglemoss Voyager Concept model, and it reminded me of the missed opportunities for ship customization, the concept designs for the ships.

I remember in the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manuel by Mike Okuda (which was originally given to writers of the show, along with the show bible, and later printed by Pocket Books when Season 5 was going to air), there were concept designs not just of the Galaxy class, but also concepts of what may come next for future Enterprise designs (most likely in case they decided to take a peek into the possible future of Star Trek; beyond sticking a third nacelle and the spinal cannon).
It would be a waste to not look into new alternatives to ships that could have been for future variations to ship designs in the game.

As for adding them to ships that don't already, they'd need a good reason to go in and add more alternate versions, like a update to T6 (like the Narendra/Ambassadore) or a faction related update (why the JHDC got more alternate canon paint jobs).

Trekyards suggested some elements may have been used in STO, but this would be an interesting design on the whole for a heavy escort, or more mobile assault cruiser.
This design looks like it was redesigned to create the ST:Enterprise BoP, which came along after DS9 ended.
Then again, adding new skins/ship parts to existing ships isn't unheard of in STO.
