I need to know how big a patch I'm looking at downloading. I've already got more than a gig and it's barely at 25%. Now if someone hadn't removed this information from the launcher, I wouldn't be here asking.
Some folks have data caps and need this information so they can plan their downloads accordingly. Posting a rough size of the patch in the patch notes would be nice. Putting the patch size back on the launcher would be even better.

I'm currently at 1.6 gigs, about 50% done. Won't be playing before lunch, that's for certain.
Where would one even ask for the patch size to be put back onto the launcher? That information was very useful and I cannot fathom why it was removed.
Indeed, the removal of the launcher info served no purpose, the font used to fill the gap doesn't match any text elsewhere on the window and isn't even centred properly.
Well, it is more than 10 minutes for me, that's for sure. I am sitting at approximately 1 hour with 57% downloaded for 1.85 gig extracted. Size isn't so bad as sometimes before but download speed is lacking (probably previous mega patches had more prepatching going on so not everybody is downloading at the same time).

Okay srsly now, WTF? Download is crawaling at a snail's speed, already got 2,6 gig and it's still only 76%?
I've read the patchnotes and know a lot of things got adressed but this is getting ridiculous.
Rural UK and you're lucky to get over 2Mb download speed.
The last 20% seems to be going slower than the previous 80%
I'm more stunned that the game is playable at that download speed.
How is it that the size of the patch varies so much? How can one person be at 2.9 GB and not done while some of us had less than 2 GB?
Probably due to you using on demand patching, some of us like to have the entire game on our HDD rather than just part of it. The drawback is that when patching we have to download at least double what you have to.
I downloaded roughly 3.1GB in just over 9 minutes.

A slow download speed for a patch doesn't translate to soggy gameplay.
Ping for STO usually sits about 120-140ms which is about normal for games with stateside based servers.
In fact STO tends to play better than diablo3 did with its EU based servers and while it does have its moments of rubber banding it's never been as bad as trying to do mounted combat in LOTRO until we got our servers back from turbine.

They only ever showed the total size of the files being patched NOT the size of the download. Many people make the mistake of presuming the former was the download size. As far as I remember, in 8 years, they have never shown the size of the download. Don't forget that the download is compressed data making the actual download size far less than the file size when decompressed.

Oh yeah, I know that the size of the files being patched is not how much we usually download. But it used to give us a way to measure or at least prepare for potentially large patches. I miss that and those folks with data caps likely do as well.

I just gauge the size from the % value.

Yeah, pretty strange.

Minor miracle they didn't opt for comic sans.
Most likely.
I've read the patchnotes and know a lot of things got adressed but this is getting ridiculous.
They probably figured if they did that, they might actually anger someone.
I wish I had your download speed. 1.5 Mbps is the only option I have here, so large patches like this take me quite a while.

I'm noticing that too. I mean, I'm used to slow but it seems to be going even slower now.

You could play MMORPGs on dial up modems. You really don't send/get a lot of data while playing. It's just the patches that require bandwidth.

I usually browse the forums while patching.
