Currently flying T5 Tac Escort Retrofit - Too squishy for solo? Where next?

Is a Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier a worthwhile upgrade, I just seem to get totally ganked far too fast in the Delta Quadrant missions with the Tac Escort Retro, do I really need to be looking at Cruisers to get anywhere solo?

    Hit and run, hit and run. Escorts do just fine, unless you fly them like a cruiser. Pick a target on the outside edge of the enemy group, target and destroy. Avoid FAW as you will then be hitting everything in range and they will all start shooting back, unless there is only one ship in range that is.

    where is the fun in that if you can just sit there and hardly take any damage yet kill everything on screen? I like the fly by the seat of your pants type play myself... Been flying a brel for better part of 4 years now... will be upgrading soon to the temporal raider... sadly it doesn't have the enhanced cloak... but it is better than the kor plus the temporal is able to be run by any faction.. Meaning one ship and I can outfit all my toons in a good fast ship that may not be a sherman tank but is fast enough that i can dodge those cannons and get out of dodge.

    to the OP... If zen is not a problem I'd say by the temporal set.. that way you can always switch out to different classes of ships and they all can be run by any faction. May not be a sturdy as arbiter but imo they will work for what you are wanting. warning tho there are fed only temporals on the c store so pay attention (currently the set i'm talking about is top of my list when i open the c store ingame)
