  • Hi. Good question. I've just logged onto my Federation Romulan and tried equipping both the Quad Phaser and Quad Plasma Cannons onto a T4 Defiant. No joy - error message 'You cannot equip more than 1 items of that category'. Sorry. Even if you could, it probably isnt desirable - to boost two different energy types, you'd…
  • Wow, that is a really weird solution.
  • Each tac console, in this example, adds the same %age boost to the base weapon damage. ie, a 'flat' 4 * 20. The only limit is the number of console slots and whatever boost rate Mk XIV Epic quality tac console gives.
  • Agree with @dumas13 's suggestions!! C-Store ships are transferrable between characters of the same faction - ie, if you buy a Odyssey, all your federation characters can use it (even ones not created yet), however your KDF and Romulan (including fed-aligned) characters cannot. The 'best' value for money/dilithium-zen…
  • Firstly, you want an escort type ship as they're more agile with just their base stats; cruisers are lumbering in comparison (with Science ships in between). Escorts are ships like the Akira, Defiant, Prometheus, Phantom and etc. Cruisers are things like the Galaxy, Sovereign and Odyssey classes. The next thing you'll want…
  • @skullblits - it doesnt really matter which type you run - they're all roughly as effective as the others. The key is to run tactical consoles that boost the damage output of that particular energy type (eg, Antiproton Mag Regulators to buff Antiproton Beams or Cannons) and you'll be fine. If you're interested in a more…
  • OP, imo this is excellent advice. @wasago02 No, the Star Cruiser cannot be upgraded to T5-U (similarly nor can the other 'free' ships you can get with a token such as Assault Cruiser). You can get Fleet quality ships three ways:* With four Fleet Modules from your fleet's Shipyard (you need to join a fleet with the…
  • Hi, so in terms of the ships power levels (the "offence" and "defence" points you raised), there are pre-set indicators that rebalance your ship's power levels to: 1) Weapons (the far left option, which looks like a vertical beam); 2) Shields (a circle, which looks like your ship's shields in game); 3) Engines (which looks…
  • OP, i think this is the answer to your question. Click on your boff, then go to the Skills tab. Let us know if you still have problems :)
  • There is a similar quirk for the Romulan faction as well - the mission name escapes me but it you can only select a new ship once you've chosen sides (dont want to give too many spoilers! :))
  • Yet we complain when people start a new thread instead of searching for an active thread on the same issue. Another key problem: accounts with very low post counts cannot start new threads anyway, so at least he necroed a relatively recent thread that was topical!
  • In addition, I would suggest not buying Zen ships (of either faction) until you reach Tier 6 (endgame) ships - because you'll out-grow the lower ones.
  • Hah, that would be rad. Mandatory "row, row, row your boat" ambient music.
  • I go into a bit of detail about Bridge officers in this thread, which is a guide for new players on The Academy forum here. I think it answers relevant questions.
  • So, in short the process is this:* Level up in rank (eg, from Lt to Lt CDR) * Return and speak to your faction admiral (eg, Admiral Quinn at Earth Spacedock) * Visit your Ship Requisitions officer (eg, Lt Laurel at Earth Spacedock) * Select the relevant ship at your level (eg Akira/Heavy Cruiser/Olympic classes at the Lt…
  • OK so the Romulan flagships dont have adv slipstream....
  • I'll go try the various factions' flagships - I assumed that given the Oddy type has advanced slipstream the others would too, but it would be prudent to test. Will advise here.
  • Welcome back! :) As the others have said, there is value in playing all four factions (Fed, 23C, KDF, ROM) for the story missions. Towards the end, they all start to converge into the main storyline so you dont 'miss out'. The temporal recruit event is handy, but not essential. Go out and have fun! :)
  • Hello and welcome!! :) The guides written for PC players (such as this one!!) will be applicable for console players - the storylines are the same so feel free to go out and explore :)
  • Good advice above - though I personally also like to carry a turret of some form as well. Also, I've found myself using the crystalline spike grenade a bit actually - mainly because it gives something else for the enemy to shoot at, and, the more that they shoot at it the more powerful the charge when it detonates. Only, I…
  • I should also mention that I've created Tac, Eng and Sci versions of the Liberated Borg character - mainly on the Fed side. I have to admit, I do enjoy playing them, but as @seriousdave pointed out, Romulans have a far better choice in the form of an actual Romulan with the Superior Romulan Operative trait for extra damage…
  • I strongly suggest waiting for the LTS to go on sale for US$199 rather than US$299 - it happens about twice a year. Alas, you've just missed one. Still, about halfway down this thread I looked at the rough Zen value of an LTS. Hope it helps you!! :)
  • Hi, welcome back to STO! What @mumstrumridcully0 wrote is good general advice. If you want more detailed information, there are a collection of guides linked together in my Early Decisions - Guide for New Players thread. It is all up to date except for the page on Captain Skills (sorry!). Have fun!
  • As others have said, the 'special food' from the major events (such as the annual Winter Event) are actually pretty good because of the bonus it can give you. Still, I often find it helpful to give the food items I collect to my bridge officers - they do take a few hits and out of combat heals means they dont use a (more…
  • Seconded - it would be nice if the accolades were given a couple of minor updates like this to make them more functional and user friendly... +1
  • @shadowfang240 outlined how to craft the jevonite hardpoints yourself, but tbh it is just much more efficient to hop onto the exchange and buy a few - it has been quite a while since I bought any, but they used to be below 100k a pop... Let us know if it results in better performance. Although I understand why you selected…
  • @theeishtmo , quick question - are you still running the subspace field amplifier device? If so, just wondering whether subbing that out with Jevonite Hardpoints (purchase from exchange is faster/easier than crafting them yourself) would be worthwhile? gl, hf!
  • Hi. Yeah, I realise that the shield is going to be an important thing, and I was very open to suggestions as to how it could be done - but I suspect that it wont be able to. Still, perhaps the rest of the outfit could be achieved and carrying a TR-116B - given it looks a bit like a contemporary rifle - could work as a…
  • Overall, the mission was good. Generally more polished than the others, however it was a touch shorter than most missions. Some issues: 1) Beamdown image has most characters using the TOS animation, but one was still TNG. 2) Some of the background comments by the soldiers standing in the forecourt include "Aefvadh" - not…
  • Haha! Love the name - very clever! :)
