Cryptic has received -- and deserved -- a lot of criticism for how they've handled the non-Federation factions over the years. KDF definitely got the short end of the stick for a great deal of that time. Nobody argues that. I simply fail to see how it is productive to keep bringing those things up as an indictment of…
Her profile says last active November 11...? Sounds pretty recent to me. Nobody has introduced themselves as the new Community Manager for STO that I'm aware of. She's got expanded responsibilities and can't focus as intensively on STO as she used to, that's all. I'm no longer privy to whatever is going on behind the…
Weird collection, but I'll bite. Scrooge McDuck - Can't take anyone who literally swims in money all that seriously. Also too stingy. Bruce Wayne/Tony Stark - They both have control issues. They both have a history of "doing stuff for your own good" without consulting the people they're trying to "help". They're likable…
I think a "Freelancer" faction is doable along the lines of the Romulan Republic allegiance system. They'd get a unique set of starter missions and access to unique starter ships T1/T2. After that, they could fly "repurposed" ships from their adopted faction and get access to a special T6 intel/pilot Q-ship at level 50.…
Love how the title of this thread keeps morphing. For the next update I suggest faction-conundrum-sto-insanity-and-console-infographic-cryptic-mind-control-more-insanity-cryptic-attempting-to-influence-election-revise-history-promote-isis-corrupt-youth-by-trafficking-in-orion-slave-girls-and-summon-cthultu-insanity-squared…
In the fruitcake. With the rum. And the nuts. Which reminds me of this thread. If *I* can understand and accept that "Q's Winter Wonderland" is meant to be a non-denominational, inclusive, seasonal celebration of Star Trek and not a deliberate conspiracy to eliminate Christmas, shouldn't it be pretty obvious? Yes, it's…
That doesn't sound like it correlates with the Devs' past explanations of how animations are created. Everything I've ever read makes it sound like introducing new animations is a huge headache that has to be applied to (way) more than one model. I could be wrong, but pretty confident in my recollection.
I believe he was referring to the initial purple BOFF for each of the four factions: Fed, KDF, Romulan, 23C Starfleet. Last I knew, you couldn't delete any of them but it's not like I've experimented with it lately.
While I'm in basic agreement with this... ...not sure about bringing a knife to a disruptor/phaser fight. And not so sure that all of the animations are really already in the game. Wouldn't we need 3 different knife-fighting animations for every character frame? Even the basic humanoid model comes in male and…
Still trying to draw me in. I'm feeling contrary and a little passive-aggressive myself. Anybody who wants to disprove my opinions is welcome to do their own point-by-point analysis of my posts and this thread in general. I decline. :)
Nope. Don't see why I should waste my time on arguing over the semantics. It's an opinion. Last I heard, I'm allowed to have different opinions from other people and defending them is entirely optional on my part.
If you're referring to me, I'll set the record straight and say that I never "worked on/for the game". I was a volunteer moderator for a PWE forum, which is a very different thing. I do not speak on behalf of the devs and never did.
Eh, I thought about being offended briefly but decided that I may have been reading too much into the name and the statement. Jesus is not a unique name. I'd be pretty embarrassed about getting offended if the character's name was Jesus Hernandez or something like that. The statement doesn't necessarily have to have a…
Not in the original post, no. Had it stopped at that I would've agreed, might not have even bothered to post, and moved on. I don't feel the need to indulge in a point-by-point defense of my opinion so I'll just leave it at that and let people make of that whatever they're predisposed to.
I don't see the harm in requesting a different animation, or pointing out that the animation in question doesn't fit the character in that situation. I find myself in agreement with that, just didn't think about it before. I do see a problem with demanding that an animation be changed and that it is somehow a deliberate…
I don't even have words for how far off base this comment is. ** begin sarcasm ** So people should be required to read the patch notes before they log in? Heck, let's make it a violation of the EULA and TOS to fail to read the patch notes. ** end sarcasm **
I'm okay with that, but would also like to see an animation of B'vat covering her with a disruptor to reinforce the fact that she is a captive. Don't recall what animation they have on him.
This AGAIN? Give it a rest, OP. I can't even figure out what you're hoping to gain here. More episodes? When it's possible to get to level 60 way before you even hit the Iconian arc no matter what faction you're in? For what purpose? More KDF-centric mission content and dialogue? Okay, this one I'll give you. No argument.…
Accepting for the moment that it is stereotyping, factoring in that the whole storyline is about Miral Paris (a female) who cannot be simply replaced with any other character, and that the storyline requires her abduction through the Guardian... What animation would you propose they substitute? It has to be an animation…
If Charlie had looked more like a flying saucer and less like a weird-looking frizbee, I would certainly have voted for it. The perspectives drawn for both Charlie and Echo didn't help matters and all of the ships look far too flat or thin. Charlie's top side curvature is barely discernible. But Alpha has the clean lines…
I warned in an earlier thread that they weren't giving sufficient and specific notice to a wider audience and I am proven correct. I foresaw the nerd rage and confusion and lo... it came to pass. Not everyone follows the changes on Tribble and players who aren't diehard don't try to keep up on reddit. I nearly didn't find…
I managed to run through this last night. Despite my sleep-deprivation, this was a pretty good "exploration" mission and a great introduction to K-13's reappearance. All of the VO's were well done and the dialogue worked for me. I wasn't terribly bothered by Kuumaarke providing most of the information as this is a…
If you think about it, it seems like a reasonable conjecture that all of these ships are intended to be very UFO-looking rather than reflect any of the engineering principles of any of the usual 25th century Trek factions. I agree that expecting the Lukari to go from a first-generation Warp-1 drive (which I believe they…
Yeah, there's that, too. Hope there's a Dev blog inbound to explain all of this to the folks who don't read the forums. And links from Arc, the launcher, and Facebook. The effort they put in to explain the new skill system to us and make the change palatable for most of the players is the same effort they need to put in…
Yikes! Sounds like we'd better finish off any projects that have a lot of commodities slotted. And maybe start a sell-off for the stuff we can't really use anymore. When the heck were they planning to announce this outside of the Tribble forum? While I'll admit that overall this sounds like a QoL improvement, it does make…
