  • Hahaha true. At the time it happened, it felt like I 'emotionally' hit something, even if I didn't physically hit it. As a result, I usually lead the story with that little tag line. "I passed through a ghost with my car" just doesn't pull the same emotional weight in my memory. If that makes sense.
  • I missed that you mentioned a treaty in your initial post. Of course, a treaty has to be agreed upon by both parties and at the time it was established there was no Wormhole and no Emissary. So you could understand why the Bajorans would be nervous about Starfleet becoming the new Cardassians. Was the treaty modified after…
  • To me, the quick answer is 'plot' because if DS9 (or earth) was heavily defended, then it wouldn't make for many compelling stories. (Enemy fleet shows up, it gets squashed, credits.) In world, I think it has a lot to do with allocation of resources and politics. I know Earth is the 'capitol city' of the Federation, but…
  • The Family Guy Mobile game had a Star Trek Event that gave you a 'customizable' Enterprise. It was one deck with a bunch of empty rooms. You just tapped on the empty room to set what it was. I imagined that STO could do something like that. Give us a simple overhead 'map view' of one deck that we can customize with…
  • I'm back. :) I may not be writing much but my head is spinning with ideas. Springing out of my last idea, I came up with three more little 'what-ifs'. I know some people don't like time travel, but personally I love them, it gives you the opportunity to see your favourite characters outside of their established canon. I…
  • @antonine3258 no problem, it's a great idea. Got a few ideas for your prompt. **Lost Friends #1 - The Annorax conundrum** Time travel is a difficult, dangerous thing and with war consuming the Galaxy it is starting to look like the best chance of defeating the Iconians. But at what costs? Your Captain receives an encoded…
  • I've been away from STO for a while now. (I actually spend more time in this forum than in the game.) Haven't even played the seasonal events for the free ship(s), though I'm sure I'll come back to it soon enough. But today I got an email from PW saying Elite Rewards for Veterans like You! As a thank you for your support,…
  • Back in the Game It's been a long time since your Captain has commanded a ship, even longer since they have been on the front lines. As the war with the Iconians rages on, the fleet grows desperate. Now, the top brass has tracked you down, hoping to bring you back. They're offering you a battlefield promotion to Fleet…
  • I understand wanting to defend Earth, or any Federation world for the matter, but arming the planet to the teeth would probably be seen by the Federation Council as a violation of what the Federation stands for. Regardless of how many times it gets attacked. I would think such an arms build up would lead to some serious…
  • I'd love to see a Sliders MMO, but I'm not sure it would lend itself to the MMO model very easily. (maybe it would make a better FPS or RTS). However, it would allow for a bunch of doppleganger characters (So many damn 'Picaard's running around...) and the devs could just keep reusing all the assets.
  • My brother got to play Stargate Worlds as part of a limited Alpha release. He only played as a human (though Asgardian was supposed to be coming). He said it was pretty cool to look at, and some of the content was really well done, but it was truly an Alpha and there were a lot of crippling bugs. There were lots of…
  • @jonsills I really enjoyed this. Good work. I really liked the quick self-correction regarding the hand/paw, and loved the part about 'the sense they can't fake'. When I write a non-human, I have to try really hard to remember that those little differences can really sell the character. You made if feel natural. Also, the…
  • I agree that it would be hard to hide something like that. But I'm sure they would try. :) I actually think a nationwide blackout would help them cover it up. In 2003, there was a blackout that took out power to Ontario and parts of the Northeastern and Midwestern United States. It lasted 40 some hours and affected 50…
  • HA! I just got it! *sigh* it's been a long day...
  • Good point, prehaps I undervalued their danger, despite the fact they were commonly used. That said, even if they were the ancient's biggest secrets, they didn't seem to worry too much about leaving them laying around. They left them in abandoned outposts in the Milky Way (PraclarushTaonas) and in multiple places in the…
  • That was always my biggest question about Atlantis. Since Atlantis fled the plague in the Milky Way, I figure they would have factories for all sorts of things: ZPM, Drones, Jumpers, even Stargates and DHDs. Also, given how many they needed and used (first to colonize and then to defend) you'd think the factories…
  • I usually enjoy every movie I see in the theatre, mostly because I enjoy the experience of going. It's not until I get home and take a bit of time to think that a movie falls apart. But this one hurt so much. I wanted to walk out, but instead I held onto the belief that 'maybe it'll get better' Nope... Ballistic: Ecks vs.…
  • Hadn't considered that.... But rolling that idea around in my head has been fun. Not only would it help develop a character that I really like and never gets much attention, but it would allow me to change up my main's senior staff.
  • That just made me my day... Next week on Enterprise Nights...
  • Thanks for the ideas so far! I'm really enjoying this, and it's got my head spinning with possibility, as well as challenging me to make something of my other alts. I like this one. Makes me think of 'The Americans'. Of course, I haven't watched the show, all I know about it is from TV commercials and light internet…
  • Agreed! I was just thinking about it the other day, I used to have a Brontosaurus model in my room, I'm sure my folks have it in mothballs somewhere. My 2 year old has just entered a 'dinosaurs are awesome' stage, and it's pretty awesome. Of course, his T-rex spends most of the time trying to eat Thomas the train, but it's…
  • I'm a sucker for the TOS uniforms, probably because of nostalgia. In fact, I really like the JJ-trek take on them. There's something about the 'texture' of those uniforms that appeals to me. Which might sound weird, but I'm very texture sensitive, as it trumps most everything including flavour when it comes to food. That…
  • The Odd Couple (aka Buddy Cops) Your Captain is ordered to a newly established research outpost to investigate a series of bizarre occurrences that is now threatening the scientists. With time a critical factor, Command has ordered that you work with another ship to complete the investigation. Unfortunately, the captain of…
  • Neither am I, all I'm saying is that, more often than not, these are the folks that control the purse-strings. They choose which projects I work on, and which project's my bosses team gets funding for. Chances are they'll hold the key to your grant money (maybe be on the board that hires you), and you'll need to work with…
  • It's not really my place to comment on any of this stuff, I'm not really part of the conversation. But the way worffan101 describes his school, reminds me of my own life, about a decade ago. I went to a college that was filled with 800 variants of me. It was an engineering school that focused on two very specific fields,…
  • When I did my test, I came up with ENFP, also called 'The Campaigner' part of the Diplomat family. The site has a long summary that feels accurate to me. But for brevity here, I like what Wikipedia has to say: ENFPs are outgoing, creative, with the key skill of perceiving complicated patterns and information and…
  • @rambowdoubledash I like it. I don't have an idea at the moment, but I can feel the gears churning... I know it's probably a typo, but when I read this my mind immediately jumped to Dr. Who. Not sure how they got there, but if there are a group of them hanging around the 30s, someone should do something about it.
  • One one level, Merrik's biggest fear is failing his friends and his crew. He feels like he sits in the shadow of his highly-decorated Grandfather and worries that he can't possibly live up to his legacy. Despite his own successes, he worries that he got command through neopotism and fears that one day he'll be in over his…
  • Misplaced One morning, your Captain notices that something is missing from his/her quarters. Casually mentioning it during breakfast, you discover that other people are missing things too. For the most part it's nothing critical an old power cell, a coil of decorative metal, an crystal statue, nothing of consequence. But…
  • Been away for a while, sad to see that the LCs seem to have fallen off the 'Official' map. Hopefully the ULCs are going well. Looking forward to getting back to writing. "Behind the Music" Years from 2409, a documentary is released that examines your Captain's career, documenting their successes and the challenges they…
