Especially in a Star Trek MMO. These forums mix the worst of two things: the entitlement of MMO players with the self-righteous aggressiveness of Trek nerds. Trendy has to deal with a perfect storm of online d-baggery.
People who like a game and hang out on that game's forum talking about how much they like the game: fanboy, paid shills, secretly company employees People who hate a game and hang out on that game's forum talking about how much they hate the game: cool dudes, smartest people there, intelligent users of time
But he's entirely right. The forum ragers complained about something they hate, the thing they hated was removed from the game, and now they're mad that the thing they said they hated is gone because they want to keep doing it. How do you people function as adults in the real world?
The amount of irrational behavior in this thread is legendary. "CRAPTIC we hate grinding the same mission over and over and over! It's boring!" "Okay, we changed the game so the thing you said you hated so much can't happen." "OMG HOW DARE U take away our grind!!!" Christ Almighty.
"I like a game and I'm going to play it and talk about it on the game's official forums" = white knight developer apologist "I hate the game yet I'm going to keep playing it and hang out on the game's official forums talking about how much I hate it" = cool dude
ENT was better than VOY and we got a whole expansion of VOY. If it were up to me we'd replace VOY in the Star Trek canon with the Star Wars Holiday Special.
Ladies and gentlemen, the textbook example of someone turning the reward system into the game, and forcing themselves to do something they hate to "win" it.
I like STO. I play the game and occasionally post on the forums. You seem to really hate STO. You play the game and post on the forums. Which of us has the skewed version of reality?
These forums are worthless for serious information. Come here to laugh - nothing more. If you want good STO discussion, go to r/sto at Reddit. Criticism is fine there, and well-thought out and civil criticism there is upvoted all the time. The OMG CRAPTIC U SUCK EVERYTHING U DO IS A SLAP IN THE FACE nerd rage (like you…
I know you're lashing out because you're scared. The world is a terrifying place when you've lived in a fictional video game world for so long. I'm not offended. If you follow the link I gave above we can help pull you away from the "slavery" your mind is in. Luckily I saw your sig and recognized the warning signs of…
I know it can be tough to deal with video game addiction, but there are resources that can help you. http://www.video-game-addiction.org/video-game-addiction-treatment.html
If I ever get to the point where I equate a video game with mandatory slavery I hope my loved ones surprise me one day after work with an intervention, and get me the help I need.
Here's a neat trick I use: If I find a mission fun, I play it. If I don't find a mission fun, I don't play it. Play the game - don't play the rewards. You're only going to end up playing something you hate and then you blame the devs for your own issues.
I love threads like OPs because they make it this huge emotional dramatic hullabloo over doing what rational adults normally do very calmly in the same situation - "I don't really like _____ so I'm gonna go do something else."
