*alex jerks a thumb at dundee and sums up the long story in a few short words* he's an augment - i was going to keep it quiet, but since he went and all but spilled the beans, there's no point and because of that and my filing his asylum request with the federation council, i expect i'll have several belligerent messages…
alex: not if you don't want to be, though if you're that worried about being abducted, you might consider it the only ones in the imperium that warrant mandatory tracker implantation are those who deal with sensitive information
alex: i can't speak for other ships, but at least on this ship, barring a section 31 kidnap attempt, you're safe - even on other ships, you SHOULD officially be safe, because violation of political asylum is grounds for war, and i would expect anyone captaining a starship to be well aware of that
at least part of them are, given the background information for them describes sheliak as "a technological, non-humanoid lifeform of classification R-3, in appearance a wrap of black, mucous-secreting folds appearing as at least a head." but they mainly look more like stellaris lithoids to me
alex: it wouldn't really matter, as a burst of UV would only take minutes and it can easily be cleaned up after - so at most we'd have 10 minutes of inactivity before everyone can return to their posts
alex: why wouldn't you be able to easily secure the bridge? engineering i can understand - i've seen the beer brewery that passes for main engineering on this class of ship - but the bridge is small
alex: well, you'd also need to evacuate those areas too (because contrary to what TOS showed with that one episode, hitting a human - and presumably a good number of other species too - with that level of UV radiation is 100% fatal)
alex: you think this is bad? try doing it on a ship more than twice the size of a d'deridex...though at least in my case, i can just flood the lycaon with UV radiation if a hostile vampire ever gets aboard
(it helps to provide a link to the unacknowledged post so the intended recipient doesn't have to dig through day's worth of them - though at this point, it isn't going to get a reply for another 10 hours at least, probably more)
alex: apparently, one of my ships picked him and a few others up from one of those old DY-100 sleeper ships - they were the only survivors of a crew of dozens (you know, the class of ship that only ever hosted frozen augments, since the only one of its class we ever saw was the botany bay)
alex: yeah...it's not so much to avoid tipping him off and more keeping him from feeling cornered and venting the ship's atmosphere in retaliation, since vampires don't need to breathe
alex: vampire - also, krystal, meet dundee - not like the crocodile guy - and dundee, meet krystal jade, the leader of task force jade and host of the ijoula symbiont
(what changeling? we're dealing with a VAMPIRE and you'd think dundee would've asked about alex being named after someone famous - though i suppose there's only one famous alexander that pretty much everyone immediately thinks of so asking wouldn't be necessary) *the trio rematerialize aboard the exeter and alex contacts…
alex: hey, i'm not actually sure about the post-apocalyptic part - and honestly, being named after famous individuals isn't THAT bad - just look at me...even if one only really became famous decades after your birth *he opens a commlink to the bridge* beta bloodfang, lower shields so we can transport over to the exeter…
alex: yeah, i can see why you'd need mind-altering substances after finding out you were basically named after two crocodile guys - and what i think was the main character of a post-apocalyptic movie *he steps aboard the transporter pad with rex, who is doing his best to keep from laughing*
