ultima online's got it beat by 4 years, since that one came out in 97 and is also still alive - whether it's kicking, i have no idea and being able to so freely do that in early MMOs like anarchy is probably why subsequent ones started introducing level requirements to gear en masse - and also pseudo-singleplayer games…

(an upturned winged creature over a planet sounds like the romulan republic emblem, but it can't be if the ship was made of titanium alloy - no romulan ships use that in ship construction hell, i'm not even sure MODERN spacecraft use that anymore)
