One test each isn't really enough data to work with, as there's damage variance (and piloting, for that matter, or lag...consoles...traits - I'm assuming they were the same between tests, but you never know) to consider, and unless you were pulling DPS numbers in excess of 100k or so, a 10% difference could easily fall…

Even heat doesn't necessarily always vaporize things - like, a planet can actually exist within the surface of a star without disintegrating for a long-TRIBBLE time...it'll be a burnt-out cinder, of course, but it won't disintegrate.

It's not that people were accidentally hitting the key - it's that the cutscenes are used for loading the scene and setting up triggers, and some cutscenes being skipped instantly broke missions...of course, instead of just fixing those issues, Cryptic just decided to annoy the entire playerbase instead.
