What ship powers would you make modular?

There's been some indication that the team is interested in having ships work more like the Oberth, MVAM Prometheus, and T1 Connie, by either allowing you to unslot powers for more console space or take consoles and items out to place in other ships, whether similar ships (MVAM console working in both kinds of Prometheus) or across the board (TOS Connie Phasers working in all ships).

What's your wishlist here?

Personally, I'd like:

NX-class - Grappling Hook to be retuned as a universal console

Galaxy-class - You're not going to get saucer separation in other ships, realistically. So I suggest taking a chunk of the crew rating and tying it to a console called "Enhanced Life Support Systems" or "Civilian Facilities" (maybe a crew % modifier) and making it removable and placeable in other ships.

Connie Refit/Vesper/Excalibur - I'd probably give them engines that boost shields and weapon power, since engines supplied power to those systems in the era of the films.

Excelsior-class - I would personally like to see the Transwarp Feature made modular although you may need to tie some of the combat prowess like turnrate tied into it to keep an Excelsior with Transwarp unslotted from being too good.

Defiant-class - I favor making the Cloak into a Universal Console. It's out of combat anyway and I might remove the cloak from my Defiant just for the extra console slot.

Galaxy Dreadnaught - I think the existing powers, aside from cloak, are best represented as non-modular. You could make the phaser lance modular, I suppose, but it would need to be inversely proportional to turnrate or something like that to avoid some INSANE escort phaser builds. My approach there would be engines that allow travel at Warp 13 in Sector Space and offer a [Turn][Turn][Turn][Turn] bonus at the cost of low impulse speed or hull.

Olympic/Hope/Horizon - Engines that go Warp 13 in Sector Space and provide, say, a [Speed][Speed][Speed][Speed] boost at the cost of below average turnrate for engines of comparable quality.

I think the Galaxy X shouldn't have any consoles to take over its abilitys. Cloak and Phaser Lance are ATTACHED to the ship.

I thought the OP was about existing powers that could be made into consoles, but i see largely made-up stuff. And for the last damn time, no universal cloak for the Federation, it´s horrible enough that they have two ships that can cloak. :p

Saucer Separation ---- Only one vessel had this in canon (random plans or notes don´t count), i´m not sure how much sense that ability makes as a combat tactic anyway, but i guess it would be possible for some ships if it absolutely must be done

Cloak ---- As i said earlier, over the klingons rotting corpses

Ablative Armor ---- would make sense but is unlikely due to the immense work that had to be done to get the visuals right for all eligible vessels in different configurations

    Tachyon Net --- possible

    Transwarp ---- possible

    Energy lance of doom
    possible

Support vessels of various kinds ---- possible, but some are tied to species specific designs

The best thing imo would be to just add a console slot to special ships and let the player decide if he wants the slot or the power. :)

I have a suggestion for this overall concept. Add new special ability/console slots to all ships. As a quick not terribly thought out idea, how about the following:

    i) Tier 1 and 2 ships get one special ability slot
ii) Tier 3 & 4 get two special ability slots
iii) Tier 5 (and 6 if/when they come out) get 3 special ability slots

Just my random 2 cents on the topic.

Having the ability to use more than one special power on one ship, let alone three of them, seems to be a balancing nightmare. :D

Possibly, it depends on what you have available in the special ability pool. On the Tier 5 & 6 ships, you could also restrict one of the special ability slots to non-combat type abilities (such as transwarp or faster sector space warp speeds).

Which is one reason why I don't think it NEEDS to be a console on every ship. The TOS Connie phasers are an example of this same basic idea, not as a console, and I think some ships would make more sense coming with a special engine, special shields, special phasers, etc.

I'm fine with this also/in addition to, they don't contradict each other that I see. I was just suggesting adding new separate special ability/console slots as a possible method to standardize Cryptic's new special ability console approach instead of using existing console slots. I see this as fitting things that are not obviously a shield/weapon/impulse engine/sensor ability myself (cloaks, ablative armor, grappling hook, warp engine modifiers, etc.).
