Is there a way we could explore the many other facets of life in the ST universe other than being a Starship captain?
One thing I really would like to do is establish a mining base / colony or a farming colony or such in which I could focus my characters (part-time at least) on setting up a revenue type generation or create an outpost where players could stop and restock their provisions.
In a way this would tie into a larger ST universe I post on in a different topic by allowing players to expand and 'colonize' outward. You could make a complex resource trading game that would allow for 'anomalies' to be generated at a set ratio based n the resoruces you can procur. This would also solve the annoying grind for resrouces I am sure every crafter just loves *sarcasm intended*

This would be good for a neutral faction. The Ferengi are a natural for that but obviously most any species would work. The problem is that currently, role-playing aside, everyone is either Starfleet or KDF. Yeah, people can role-play that they're from the Mirror Universe or that they're mercenaries hired by Starfleet, but we're all Starfleet or KDF flying around in Starfleet/KDF ships. And Starfleet or KDF don't mine or farm. To make this work we'd need a neutral faction.
Sadly, I don't see this happening anytime soon, if at all. Cryptic has its hands full for the next 12 months+, especially with the KDF needing so much and the Romulan faction due later this year.
I'd love to play the merchant prince, able to go to ESD and Qo'noS (and Ferenginar) wheeling, dealing and stealing in my tricked-out cargo ship or second-hand Orion cruiser. In place of a Diplomacy system we could get a Trader system. And sometimes, if we didn't feel like fighting, we could just buy off the bad guys to complete the mission.

Yeah, it would definitely be cool. Z
You dont need a new faction, only a Ferngi character and a ferengi ship and maby a few ferengi BO's.
and as for a home base make it possible for em to visit both/all, ESD and Qo'nos.
..Starting point?
Bridge, spec your ferengi to L 6 and your good to go

The reason I suggested a neutral faction is because Starfleet and KDF don't mine or farm. They didn't even remotely do that in the series or movies. Either civilians or a neutral third party (Ferengi) did all that.
I'd love for crafting to be expanded but I don't see mining and farming being easy to reconcile with Trek. Crafting isn't canon but it's closer than mining / farming / gathering. Engineers were always making new toys with cool technobabble names to defeat the enemy of the week. They were never coming up with new ways to increase farm yields to make money.
Well forthe mingin / farming, a Ferengi would work or even a simple human merchant type.
Basicalyl thought was to set up a mine. The mine feeds a factory and produces Component X for some object. You align like 20 of these and it could theoretically kick out an anomaly every hour or so (you could still farm alot faster as well). Increase your capacity and you 'might' get it too produce one every 15 mins.
For BO's, you could assign one as a plant manager or such and they would add efficiency to the operation. In addition, they would allow for a rare to drop every now or then. Capcity would be set by storage limits.
Here are some benefits to the game:
- Allows for a focus other than blowing things up.
- Allows players to contribute to the well being of their respective faction.
- Would make an excellent gold sink (EC sink?)
- Allows for you to do somethign other than grind all the time for anomalies.
- Get enough mining clusters/ planets together and could have a fleet 'empire' or state of sorts.

That way they would get a few dollars from players that would like this play style.
And missions isnt needed either.. Just sell what you got to other players

But if there was a neutral faction...
