Where are the Pakleds?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I noticed something last night on ESD no Pakleds. So this morning I went to every available instance and not one Pakled. Did Starfleet send them out to seek out New ways to make them go to boldy salvage new technologies? Or did Q Hate the Pakled's and make them disappear from Space dock? I know they are still in Starfleet as I have a Pakled BO. Can a Dev or anyone shed some light on this?

LOL I just thought it was funny as they were all over Space dock before .

Have you checked the lower levels? I think that's why Cryptic put them there, as sort of a Starfleet kiddie table.

Yes, I too was very disturbed that Pakleds weren't everywhere. After all, this was a hostile NON-Federation race that appeared in ONE episode of TNG, and then never again accept for a few background shots on Deep Space Nine. Thus, I was upset to see they stopped appearing by the hundred in Starfleet uniforms on Earth Space Dock.

Luckily, there's still thousands serving on ships as BO, and even captaining them. They might be hard to recognize because they look almost nothing like what they did on their one episode of Star Trek.

My suspicion is the removal of Pakleds from ESD is to pave the way for their appearance as the shadowy villains in Season 4. They were the ones behind the attempted Horta genocide being carried out by the Romulans, which we got a glimpse of in Season 3.

The backstory centres around a tragic misunderstanding by Packled who was told they were "dumber than a rock".

Yes it is sad but true MMO players are fairly famous for being shallow enough to not like playing ugly races, or to even having them around. Lets face it (and pray) that it don't get much uglier then Pakleds.

Frankly, I think MMO players like ugly races but only when that ugly is carried to a fun extreme.

IMHO, City of Heroes kinda had it right by having a HUGE bodytype in addition to males and females and Gorn and Pakleds would benefit from the more monstrous/large body as an option.

I think that option would be good although I'm sure some one could do it in the alien creator I'm just not that dedicated to tweak a toon that long to get it lol.

You kinda can but to make it "fun ugly", you really need more of a slouch, curved spine and slumping shoulders, and more extreme distortions of proportion than the creator typically allows. I'm thinking body types closer to the Fek'Ihri custom models.

Take a look at the monster races in other MMOs like, say, Tauren in Warcraft. There are key distortions made in posture and default body language that sell it. You get a dose of those in City of Heroes with the massive bodytype.

I'm a slider pro in most Cryptic games, I think. I've managed to create some really great actor likenesses just for fun.

But whenever I try to create a more grotesque, bestial, or blobby alien, I just wind up with a really stiff looking brute or a pot bellied average human type.

I think we could get by with JUST one more bodytype as long as it's focused on more of a lumbering, hunched form and polycount is allocated to stretch the body out to veer between bulky and lumbering and obese waddling.
