As I understand it the DR (Duty Roster), will open up a new way of gaining certain benefits, crafting/gaining xp, certain passive bonuses to abilities (Tractor beam is the one that I kept seeing pop up in related threads).
Now where I am a little less clear is how it integrates, at first i was told we would get new special duty roster only BOs (Yay!), then i was told it would somehow be integrated with the existing BOs we have (Yay!).
So then I was told we would be sending our BOs (Is that DR BOs, existing BOs or Both?) on BO only missions to do all that boring stuff our captains are to busy to do (Who says rank doesn't have its privileges?)
From my understand, the Duty Roster doesn't affect our BOs, only the rest of the crew on our ship. We can slot the crew into different areas on our ship in order to get different bonuses. We can send the crew to do side missions. Stuff like that.
The Duty Roster is not finished, but it will be released anyway because other projects need to be started.
The basic framework is there, but there will be no graphical representation of your crew other than a non-moving headshot.
It is unlikely that you will be able to customize this headshot.
The rest of the duty roster system will be text-based. You will place crew in various assignments using what is essentially a text interface. You will send crew on small, repetitive missions which will take place "off-screen" and whose results will be shown to you in text-only.
***You WILL NOT see your crew inside your ship interior instead of the random 'twin' NPCs which currently march shoulder-to-shoulder down your stadium-sized hallways, often getting stuck in the walls.***

Where did you hear this? The UI hasn't even been created in the game yet, only concept art has been designed for the UI. The Duty Roster hasn't even been released on Tribble yet so that means its no where near being released on Holodeck.

Correct. We won't, and probably never will, be customizing each individual crew member on our ships. The only thing I can see happening is a default uniform being set for the entire crew.

Correct. However its not only sending officers on missions. You'll be control the ship's roster. Putting crew into different locations in order to gain boosts here and there.

Is that about the size of it? What am i missing?
Kind of. What follows is Darren_Kitlor naively trying to explain something that there isn't a lot of information (and most of it comes from the dev poster, Heretic)
There are two divisions of duty officers, those on:
Active Roster - being sent out on missions for your crew, the missions providing certain rewards while you're doing brave captain-like things.
Reserve Roster - confer passive bonuses, crafting unlocks, etc. Think of these as the extras in each episode going around their business.
All of these are separate and distinct from Bridge Officers. Your bridge officers are senior staff positions with strengths and weaknesses in whatever role you assign them in.
darren does it will it work something along the same lines as the assasins tab in assasins creed brotherhood ?
dstahl mentioned Assassin's Creed Brotherhood being part of the inspiration for the system (or at least something with a similar feel).
Funnily enough, ThomasTheCrypticCat's UI mock-up looks very similar to AC:B - sans the regional map where you see what assignments are going on in different locations.
This may be why the devs are redoing the galaxy map for players.
well the assasins creed brotherhood is an amazing insperation system. it works perfectly and actually makes you feel in charge of the people your sending out, and the bonus's you get if they work the same are amazingly balanced too, if they can bring 50% of what is in AC:B to sto it will be earth shateringly good, i have followed ac since it f1st apeared and it is by far the best single player game ever created only followed by fable. thats in my eyes only but im sure others will agree.
they just better bring this to both sides and not just feds like they did when they did dipo, i cringe when i think of how many kdf players ragequit when they did that.
I suspect it will end up being a little more like the mission system from "My Life As King", but I am (obviously) feeling depressed and cynical at the moment. Time for some fresh air and sunlight. I do hope this system rocks, but...
