There was a old combat board game called Star Trek: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator It was made by a company called FASA. They had a lot of ship designs and pictures. Most of the ships from the board game are based in the TOS and Movies era in design. I am not sure if Cryptic can legally get a hold of the designs. However some of them look nice and would be great if they could be made available in the C-Store sometime.
I am not trying to promote another Star trek game in the Cryptic forums, just ideas on new ships that Cryptic might be able to introduce.
Here is a link to a fan site dedicated to the Star Trek: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator. The site shows the pictures and stats of each ship (stats according to the game rules), as well as some history. Some of the ships are from the game and some are fan created.

The rules were seen in a series of two games and an expansion called Starfleet Command, Starfleet Command 2, and Starfleet Command Orion Pirates(a stand alone expansion to SFC2)
The rules in the video games were very very close to the original rules of SFB.
I've played all of them. The Excalibur Class in alot of ways looks like the Federation XCF, XCA, and XCB from Orion Pirates.
"Star Trek: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator" was made by FASA
They are diffrent games.
