Cryptic - what's your PvP Strategy in relation to npc spam?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So I see many past threads posted here, in the tribble and PvP threads about the damage npc spam is doing to PvP. These threads started before the most recent weekly series.

Yet it would appear that the devs have gone out of their way to increase npc spam in ths game in response, with fighters and cloaked mines etc.

I am going to assume that this is part of an overally strategy for the game and not three people sitting around on a Friday morning discussing "What would be cool and shiny and a cheap PvE win"

So my question is what is that strategy? These new devices may be great for PvE but they are ruining an already unloved part of this game: PvP. The very least you could do if you insist on sacraficing PvP on the alter of lowest common denominator PvE is give us a way to target the next player controlled ship on the tab command - on the face of it an obvious and simple request?

PvP Is:
  • a visual mess with mines and fighter and klingon spawn all over the screen - npc spam was the sole reason I stopped PvPing against the Klingons rather than the myth that they are OP
  • Now the least Trek-like aspect of the entire game. Mines and fighter class craft were used so infrequently as to almost not be considered canon and might be more fitting to DS9 Online rather than Star Trek Online
  • Obviously and blatently unloved by Cryptic as the whole system is uninspired, unimaginative and uncared for

You're late to the party... ;)

Snix and Chaddington posted on it before:

This is the most specific response after the "spam crisis" meeting:
    Hey Everyone... again,

The meeting is out and as I said before, we discussed the immediate and not so immediate changes that needed to be made to powers that created pets. AKA PET SPAM!!!.

So we will be lowering the amount of mines across the board in upcoming fixes/patches.
We will also be reworking a few other powers to help prevent pet spam.

The immediate changes that you will be able to test and see asap are as follows:

    Scorpion Fighters:
    • Reduced Cooldown of Scorpion Fighters to 90 Seconds from 180.
    • Reduced the amount of Scorpion Fighters to 3 from 5. Per Launch allowing a total of 6 out instead of 10.

    Cloaking Tractor Beam Mines:
    • Recharge time has been reduced to 45 seconds from 50.
    • Added a 45 second global cooldown to the Tractor Beam Mines.
    • Made them Unique. (Current users that have multiple Tractor Beam Mines equipped will benefit by switching to another type of mine or weapon type due to the new 45 second global cooldown)
    • Reduced the amount that each Spread and Trail Dispersal patterns drop.
    • Spreads now launch 5, 7, 9. From 6, 10, 14. Trails now launch 3, 6, 9 from 8, 12, 16.
    • Basic launch will now launch 3 instead of 4.
    • The tractor beam once activated will last for 5 second then explode the mine.
    • The strength of the Tractor Beam has been slightly reduced.
    • Reduced the total sets of mines you may have deployed from 3 to 1 from a specific power.

These fixes should make it up onto tribble within the next week or two. I will be watching the threads for more feedback.

    Thanks,

    Chad

I would probably recommend adding any further thoughts to either the thread started by snix or the thread with Chaddington's replies, as that is most likely to be monitored directly.

Thanks for the update, if a mod somewhere wants to close this thread then great. Don't think I can do it myself?

Chaddington also is planning to make a seperate feedback thread.
As always, please keep it in the right threads in the right forums. The PvP forum is the place to be for PvP discussions! :)
