While I appreciate cryptic making the mvam available. I think it would have been nice for those with t5 advanced escorts with out the MVAM to be given a free refit or at least a quest that allows you to get an upgrade. I think its quite a poor choice to make it an emblem based and cash based.
Just seems like regular advanced escort players are getting jipped.
Why though is only a bloody consol and works the same with the regular advanced escort. seriously why charge 500 emblems for it assumeing its 500 emblems they charge I mean the ship its self doesnt seem any different.

because cryptic needs to pay thier employees.
I bet dollar to donuts that they will be making more of these that do different things for different ships and will charge the same 500 emblems.

Because this takes a regular ship and gives it a special ability like the VA ships. The other ships aren't really any different either... except for the special ability. This is not counting that fact that they took an lower tiered ship and brought it in line with other RA tiers. It's the same ship except they duct taped a special ability on to it. This is all the console is doing.... or would you rather get a whole new ship instead and loose a ship slot... or have to discharge the other ship after you spent a ship token on it.
I feel that the console idea is a way better solution and they should adopt it. In fact I have a rather radical idea about consoles that I an about to make a thread about.
This is what I would support: Currently when you hit VA you get a ship token, you can use it on the Difiant R, the Galaxy R, or the Intrepid R. If they added the console to the list, I would be in support of that.

Its not just a bloody console. Its also a new ship with a different BO layout than the original Advanced escort. and this took time to develop. Gotta offset the cost some how!...

It doesn't look any different on the outside, but that doesn't mean they didn't have to do a lot of work with the model and game code in order to get it to be able to separate for MVAM. The amount of work Cryptic had to put into it was just as much...and probably more than something like the Defiant retrofit (which I imagine was a lot less work to create.)
Also, the other version of the escort that also comes with the escort has different BO seats, and gives you the versailitiy of using the console in either version of the ship, something that none of the other retrofit purchases give you. If anything, you're getting more out of the same price than you would another retrofit.
By any meaningful definition, it is as much a new ship as the Galaxy retrofit was compared to the original. The net result between the console and an entirely new ship is that with a new ship you have one less console slot, with the console you have one less usable slot.

Lets do some quick math: $15 per month at 75k subs(rough estimate, could be more) = $1,125,000. And that is every single month, and just for STO(we have no idea how much Champs is making now). Now, I'm not sure how much it costs to run their servers and keep the lights on, but lets shave off 1/3 of that and we're left with 750,000. The question is, how many people are on the STO team? Even if it were 20 people, thats 37,500 each, EVERY month. Now, I really doubt their actually making that. But the point is, I dont think "Cryptic needs to pay their employees" is really a valid arguing point.

you are missing a bunch of figures and employees and royalties and licensing fees, but the more cryptic makes, the better it is.

Since this is just a fun discussion, go ahead and make the adjustments you think should be made, and explain the figures. It will still be interesting to see what the end result is.
Actually, it's way more than one ship... off the top of my head there are 4 Adv escort variations, broken up into 7 pieces that can be combined together. That one ship can then be separated into 3 pieces, each piece needing to be individually modelled with each possible combination and retextured... [edit] So if you want to be thorough, add 7 possible texture variations to that also (4 starting texture options plus borg, aegis and reman shield texture overwites)... and well.. You do the math on that... /edit
Really isn't as simple as saying "it's just a console so it should be given free/should be much cheaper"

I so enjoy our daily discussion Nagus.
They isn't nearly enough information to make a correct analysis .
But running and creating an MMO isn't cheap. Especially in California.
I was more going on the premise of : the more money cryptic gets the more resources cryptic can acquire and the more resources cryptic can acquire, the work work can go into the game.

The Advanced Escort is a RA ship like any other.
MVAM is a unique ability comparable to VA ships like Saucer Seperation, Intrepid Armor and Defiants Cloak.
neat, that means I get one too. I support this plan.
Me too!
Bdays in August should get it to.

This proves it! November is just to OP..... It needs love from the Nerf Bat!

And the opposite is just as true.
