Silly things during exploration...

Y'know, I totally understand the logic behind exploration missions. Having such "random generator" is cool. But some things are just plain silly. A few minutes ago, I ran into secret Borg base subtly altering local culture to service their needs. Huh? The other day it was Borg "filing formal complains". What the... ?

Not to mention all those gas giants with ground missions, frozen planets with desert terrain, ancient civilisations losing artefacts 24/7 (must be the fearsome empire of the Scleroticaliens)...

Maybe some polishing would be in order...

Yes. And to appease the god Ten'Char, I think this is pretty much well-known by the community and even by Cryptic by now. Supposedly, there is an exploration revamp in the works...

    Or a nuke.

Revamping exploration to even offer a few fractions more compelling content would be viable to me.

I still don't know if it's a season five, six, or beyond project.

Exploration could be one of the most compelling features in STO but its current incarnation has so few gems in a giant pool of grind.

I think the last exploration mission I enjoyed was solving a killer energy cloud that was poisoning a colony. It may have been the only one too.

Have you scanned the rare carnivorous plants made out of satellite/borg parts yet. I wonder how long they take to grow :)

I still enjoy the missions though :D

I've done two first contact missions so far. And when I did my second first contact mission I made contact with a species who looked like a short version of the species I contacted in the first mission.

Two completely deferent species in two completely different parts of space, yet (other then the deference in hight) they looked exactly the same. Weird, huh?

/agreed. I know they're working on Klinks for season 4 but with the lack of end game content and exploration fail they should consider revamping it for season 5 or maybe a touch to it for season 4 if possible. I'm just not up for the idea of making it more like the defari* sector space as I know that was talked about.

The only exploration that I enjoyed although it was long and boring was in SQO.

They used an actual star map and had the computer generate the server with stars/planets. Of course the downside to this was it would take real time hours to travel between stars but it was fun getting to a star and having to scan each planet in the system to see if the was a planet to support life, and if there was you could move closer to that planet and scan the surface, beam down, or even take a fighter/shuttle down to the planet.

Of course I don't know if STO has the tech to support such a system, or who would even like a system like that. But it was really enjoyable to "explore" outter space by really traveling to systems and scan each one for life. Or trouble if there was life that was hostile. Nonetheless maybe STO could adopt some of these ideas and make a "better" exploration system then whats in place now.

Just like all future content - or anything actually worth doing - in STO.
