So I made a new character after hearing that an engineer in a tac ship is really fun. Well he'll have no been officer, that ship has sailed. The exchange has them for 5.5 million. Not a bad price I guess. So one of my alts has the rare particals, the crafting guy. And I mailed a lot of them intending to sell them so I could get my been officer for him. Question, why do some go for 300,000 and others for 10,000?

Because the ones for 300k are used for all the cool items, hence they are more wanted, hence they are expensive. The 10k trash is used either for some useless lowlevel items, or in conjunction with the expensive ones.
It has to do with which anomalies are used to craft what items. If there is a high demand for a particular craft-able item (like the Aegis set) then the anomalies for that item will be in a higher demand. That increase in demand raises the price in the exchange.
In actuality, the exchange price can be anything we decide to set it to. Its completely controlled by the users, so if everyone starts selling items for 1 EC then that's what it'll be worth.
