    Giant Radioactive Tribbles.

I can just imagine them rolling around like in those Critters movies...

I've never seen a Starfleet Captain in the Trek shows sick a monster of any kind on his/her enemies. With that said I don't fully agree with this, heck I don't even like the pets that follow you around when you're on the station. I think pets belong in your quarters... like a dog or a cat :D

No, the last thing I want to see in STO is some silly attack pets, Or wanna be ranger stuff. The Targ Handlers are bad enough.

I'm a fan of the idea to either have this take up a bridge officer slot or to add a "special" bridge officer slot that we could fill with some kind of "not quite bridge officer" team member like an Exocomp, a Targ, maybe a generic redshirt, or even a mission or area specific friendly contact. (So, for example, maybe Klingons would get a mission where one team member can select Worf as their special ally, kinda Kingdom Hearts style.)

I can totally see KDF having a Targ Handler kit that granted targ attack pets (or maybe even warriguls). Everyone else, not so much.

STO can't be handcuffed by what's canon to the point where if it hasn't been seen in one of the shows or movies it can't be added, but Fed attack pets just doesn't fit. Yeah, you could argue for a vulcan Sehlat Handler kit but it's really going to boil down to 'cause it'd be cool!' not 'cause it makes so much sense!'.

I think it would make more sense for Feds to have a Combat Exocomp* kit that are basically mobile phaser turrets, shield buff/repair drones or capture drones (personnel tractor beam/gravimetric shift). Something that doesn't involve sending living critters in to battle to die.

    Just a thought.

    * Exocomps are from the ST:TNG episode 'The Quality of Life' and feature advanced replicator-equipped drones that gain sentience. The combat Exocomp wouldn't be sentient, obviously, but would be pretty advanced.
