Cutting the Cord Easter Egg

While using demo record for the episode Cutting the Cord I saw something I just had to share with you all. After the final space battle when you have to destroy the space Iconian gateway inside the asteroid, the 'weak spots' you target are actually little aliens.

Strangely enough I knew I'd seen this creature before somewhere, so I went through my STO screenshots dating all the way back to Beta and found it was a 'placeholder' image for an alien species when you beam down to random planets while doing exploration missions.

I guess they hadn't gotten around to randomly creating aliens to hail you at that stage in the game, and decided to use those same aliens as little 'targetable objects' for destroying the Asteroid Gateway.

EDIT: Links were broken, fixed now, apologies.

Wow, I did not even see that... Nice catch! :^D
I find it interesting that they would do that, do you think it was intentional?

I'm sure it was intentional, they needed something really tiny you could 'target' to destroy the asteroid gateway, and you can't get much smaller than a little humanoid... he even falls over and dies as you shoot him with your ships weapons. Whether he was meant to be inside the asteroids edge or whether they just didn't expect anyone to see them I don't know.

...Wonder how I feel about shooting a small humanoid with my antiproton beam arrays...

Its no easter egg... its a place holder moddel for missing moddels, so if you encounter this you found a bug -> report it.

I ran into a similar bug in a Klingon mission where one of the Federation Escorts I was fighting was actually a 'Buster'-looking Crash Test Dummy out of Mythbusters that ran around in space and shot phasers out of his rear end at my ship :D

Why does that placeholder guy look like he might be a character in CoH? If they're gonna make a placeholder, at LEAST make him look Trek-like. Stick him in a Starfleet uniform, or somethin.

Those are the Test Dummy (placeholder) models for the Cryptic engine.

You used to see them in beta and early launch in the exploration clusters, and they used to show up in Champions from time to time.

Not really an easter egg, its the placeholder guy, he even has a name given to him by the Dev's. I remember seeing it in another thread but I can't remember it.

In the beta screenie in the OP, he is coloured like that black and white alien race from TOS. I dont remember what they were called. But they were the same race, but were at war with each other for some reason, their only difference was which side of their head was white or black.
