i think the new voice chat will be a great improvement for the game my fleet is currently using ventrillo but it will be nice not to have to pay for it anymore but i really hope there will be a way to log in to my fleets voice chat without being in game there are many times i am managing the fleet when i am doing other things on the computer so a separate client for use when not in game would be nice it would also be cool if it gave you access to the text fleet chat also with the voice allowing me to communicate with my fleet at all times even when out of game :) it is kinda vital to me

Is that an upcoming feature then? Cos there are free clients you can get for talking to your fleet which are awesome. Dolby Axon is one of them, all you need is one fleet member with a paid account ($20 per year) and they can create persistent channels for the whole fleet to use. They just make sure that people in the fleet are added to thier dolby friends list and invited to the persistent channel. Simples!

yea but they are adding voice chat to the game so want i really want is to be able to use that voice chat with my fleet with out having to log in game i mean our fleet is primarily social we are on vent no matter what we are doing one guy even gets on vent using his phone so if the game voice chat will give us the option of talking without being in game then we can stop paying for vent and still not loose any of the things we have now

i also wonder how they will manege the voice chat with all the server problems they have been having will they be adding more hardware to take the extra strain

I'm guessing the new voice chat will be a seperate from the game itself but with controls accessable in the game, sort of like Winamp and I-Tunes are now. Or at least this seems to be the most logical solution.

Apparently, Vivox voice-chat will be in-game, sort of like GameSpy is native in all of the Turbine games.

yep true plus give me a decent enough reason to join clans since hate typing every 5 seconds while I'm under heavy fire

I would consider joining a voice roleplay fleet when they do this.

Do people do this? It strikes me as a fun mix of roleplay with improv and eliminates my frustrations with trying to emote and move while typing, which has kept me from ever getting into non text based roleplay. (Whereas I never tried with non-integrated voice chat because people use different servers and clients, which would make casual voiced roleplay difficult.)

Any idea when this will be available in game? Right now we are having to use TeamSpeak which is ok, but now my friend can't get it to work.
