First, I'd like to start this thread off by asking that anyone replying to it be civilized. Do not derail this thread with "Cryptic sucks" tirades, Klingon and Fed hating, or nerdraging of any sort. Be respectful of other peoples' ideas, opinions and concerns. Please keep said ideas, opinions and concerns mature and calm. No whining or hating. I want this to be a constructive thread to help ALL OF US by giving good, solid ideas for Cryptic to consider.
I believe it was Iceroid that suggested in another thread that options should be given in PvP to disable certain items, etc. This got me thinking.
It is a great idea, but let's expand upon it.
I would like to see PvP setup options all around. Let's see a "configuration screen" for the host of PvP matches with a plethora of options to turn on or off.
Options could include:
- Mines
- Pets (i.e. Fighters)
- Cloaking
- Ship type
- Weapon type
- No heals (persistent damage until you are destroyed)
Mind you, that is far from a complete list. But it is a beginning.
Also, I wouldn't mind seeing "random" events occurring in some of the matches. Like when a warp core goes critical, there could be a very small chance that it could affect space/time in a 10 km radius. Certain asteroids may have composition that disrupts your targeting sensors. Anomalous interference could make it so that you cannot get a tractor beam lock. A small, enemy scouting party or raiding force may warp in unexpectedly, accidentally finding themselves in the middle of a firefight...and start firing at both sides. Remember, all of these things would be rare, random occurrences, just to add a little spice to the game. Some of these things, when discovered in the match, can be used to an advantage, such as the asteroid idea.
Also, it would be interesting to have more than just two teams vying in battle. Just a thought.
Customization of our PvP matches can make for some interesting games. It will also allow those that don't want mine/pet spam to turn those options off. Players will be alerted to what options are in effect before choosing to join the match.
So, let's try to talk about some of these things, along with all of your ideas, to make PvP a great experience for all players interested. Hopefully Cryptic will peek in on this thread and find some good ideas. I firmly believe they would be more apt to consider if we keep this conversation on topic, without hostilities.
Thank you.

I LOATHE PvP, but I'd participate in that just to watch all the Klingons whine and complain.
people who rely on cloak are doing it wrong ^_^
On a more on topic note:
All I said was that I would like Fleet Support, Scorpion Fighters, and Tractor Mines to be disabled in PVP.
you die once, and youre out, but can still view the battle
special rewards for the higher up you place
There are barely enough people around for "everything enabled" random PvP matches as it is..
Who is going to bother queuing up for "gimped ability" PvP?
I'm all for customized private matches.. but for public matches, this is just taking a thin playerbase and spreading it even thinner..
Here's a very old post (don't necro) speaking way too long with too many pictures on the subject:

I'd never queue for such matches and in fact, I doubt anyone would.
It'd be great for premades.
Unless it's forced on people - sure. But then again, how many people issue private challenges? *shrugs*
Premades use it somewhat - you can customize the match kill limit or influence, which is useful for testing builds outside of Ker'rat's open environment.
So long as it isn't forced, I'm a fan of it.
So true! And unfortunate.
We already have challenge matches which allow you to redefine score limits. I see this as an extension of it.
Personally, I'm hoping snix makes good on the PvP Tournaments "soon" comment from July.

Have funny with eiter:
a) cloaked ships only
b) cruisers only
battels.
For example disabling Quad Damage, enabling a certain double jump move or enabling Low Gravity on the map, things like that.
With dozens of those "Mut's" it made for some very intresting Servers to play on.
Sadly in STO we can't create our own public queues.
i'd be happy if we could start queues with 4on4 space battles isntead of 8vs8 (i allways feel 8vs8 is to crowded in STO, yet it is the only option thx to a Queue with FIX rules).
...but then i dont PvP anymore anyway.
While you are at it, disable, Klingon fighter spam and Klingon fleet support.
Then again, sometimes its best to leave things as they are.
The PvP we have right now is perfectly fine and stable, even with the mines.
I posted this in another thread, but all of this just makes the war more realistic, and prevents PvP from becoming monotonous. A few nights ago, me and two other pople won a PvP match 15-1 against the Klingons (They got me!!!!!), mostly because they were using the old tactics of ambushing us once, then just charging in, instead of moving the ambush each time. Also, instead of targeting one ship at a time for maximum damage, they all targeted different ships, allowing us to pick 'em off one by one. With each change is a requirement to adapt your strategy, or be blasted into your component atoms.
These mines are just a counter to the Klingon cloaking devices.
Real men only play on Poke Floats.
Real men don't care about stage. Being a real man is to use only Captain Falcon and refuse to attack with anything other than Falcon Punch.
Me personally, I might actually start playing PvP again if there were more games to choose from. A couple of people in this thread have stated that we shouldn't spread out an already thin PvP player base by offering more choices. I think you might find that the PvP player base might actually grow if Cryptic instituted something like this. I honestly think that it is not just balance issues that keep players away from PvP, but lack of diversity as well.
Just a thought...
You can currently create private matches with custom objectives and rules already: what's suggested is merely adjusting more of the rules.
I guess what I mean is take it out of "private matches" and into public servers. So when I as a player go to PvP queues on the drop down menu, I see all matches available to play, and not just the 4 space PvP matches provided by Cryptic. I hope that is a little more clear as to what I meant.

If you can say "No Escorts" you would say no i won´t play with a 1/3 of all Players
