ability free pvp

lately pvp has been 90% of what i play in game. all my characters are at level cap, all my gear as about as good as it can be with out spending millions on single items, and ive had enough of emblem grinding. nearly all pve is painfully boring, the npc's you fight need a clean slate re do, but that's another topic.

but pvp has gotten worse and worse with the spam and clutter, its not player vs player any more. its can a fill the screen with enough TRIBBLE so the other player has no idea whats going on? bonus points if i can kill some one wile his computer chugs. how about a game mode that does away with all of that? a pvp mode were the rpg stuff is removed and only trek remains?

basically, no bridge officer abilities. the only abilities you can use are the non class specific ones you get as you level. like brace for impact, ramming speed, abandon ship, etc. bateries are ok, that dividian series device is ok, scorpion not ok and no mines, that would be the only banned weapon. carriers can have their fighters.

it would be interesting to see at least how well cruisers can take damage, compared to how much damage an escort can dish out. science... might get the short end of the stick here, they have strong shields though.

being affective here would need a hell of a lot more team work than the current healing system. i think it would be extremely fun though

    I like this idea. I hardly get to watch the visuals any more because I'm so darn busy clicking one of the like 30 plus buttons!

    Sounds kinda like T1 PvP. Would be kinda cool if we could as maxed rank captains have a T1 ship battleground.

    ya it would be tier one like, but the low tier fights were so boring. every one was shooting 1 or 2 weapons at each other then, with each hit having little effect. i think with tier 5 ships it would be much more interesting. also, covarent wouldn't be the best shield to use, seeing as it has no healing abilities to back it up. other shield types would be relevant all the sudden.

    Interesting idea, I just rolled a new Sci toon and I have to say that I'm enjoying the lower tier PVP alot more than the higher tier PVP. It reminds me alot more of the shows, where positioning, and weapon arcs win the day.

    Interesting, I would like to see what Cryptic thinks of this. I have to agree...with all these abilities, things get crazy with eye-candy haha.

    I couldn't agree more! I love T1 PvP, I just hate the slow power transfer.

    maybe instead of just pvp, it can be a setting for the difficulty slider, balanced so you could play through all the pve with out the crazy abilities.

    i dunno, im just not happy with how crazy all the abilities are, they should mostly be passive boosts i think, i understand this is supposed to be an rpg with abilities and leveling, but a major tone down is in order i think. it doesn't really feel like star trek at tier 5, like it did at the lower levels. tier 1 and 2 pvp with tier 5 ships sounds great to me.

    I actually preferred pvp at commander rank.

    You always had enough abilities to make it interesting but it wasn't yet at the point where they dominated a fight.

    It was fun and dynamic, so yeah Im in favor of this. :)

    Cryptic could possibly improve the Challenge Match system - or the Foundry - to allow disabling specific powers or restricting ships. This would allow:
    • Shuttle PvP matches
    • Tier 1-4 PvP with Vice Admirals
    • Tier 5 PvP without any powers.
    • and more
