As has been pointed out many times, this was an incredibly stupid decision on the part of Cryptic. I very much want to hear Stahl or a higher up explain exactly what was going through their heads on this one.

Are you serious?? Maybe you haven't been in a serious match with some dedicated mine spammers. The ENTIRE map is NOTHING BUT MINES. Tractor mines, Chron, Tric... Get off the "find a tactic to overcome high horse" and realize how the spammage diminishes the quality of PVP.
Don't tell me about FAW AND Volley either.
PVP is now and has been for quite some time PVM = PLAYER VS MINES

Half the time am in PvP its a spam field as you call it.. Fuss what I don;t care i just come up with a tatic to get over it Eject Warp plasma takes care of the mines and fighters. It don;t bring down PvP at all, in my opion it makes it better. It makes me think and so i like it.

Meh i know if i reply i;ll get a infraction, but just so you know your a idiot. get over it the mines are in adept or don;t your choice. I see no problem with i just change tatics.
Ohh by the way do you like chedder or American?
Neither I have no problem with the mines from where I stand I have a problem with the mines for anyone new and willing to try PvP and has their TRIBBLE handed to them by the better PvPers that already know how to counter and work around them. The PvP community is small and these mines are not conducive to growing the numbers.

Do you honestly think a newb isn't going to get their TRIBBLE handed to them anyway? PvP is fast, unforgiving and requires skills not developed in PvE. Tractor mines aren't going to kill them any deader.

I agree.
The so call big dogs are complaining becuase they just havent thigure out how to circle their targeting setting enough to not pick the spam atuomaticly'
I agree... Though I don't play PvP, I already knew what a devastating effect this would be for PvP and I kinda predicted that this would change the face of PvP for some time... at least until some new toy that the Dev's make appeals to the masses.
This is a minor issue as you can use a number of tactics to get rid of mines, AOE comes to mind, and if used effectively, it should, in theory, make mines obsolete.

Being beat because you were beat by a better player is one thing. Everyone that is worth their salt in the PvP community has been thumped by better builds and were down right out played. But if the perception is that so and so lost because he was immobile for the whole match or stunned or whatever brings in the shadow of doubt that he may have been beat because of gimmicks not skill. Spam is not skill not matter how you cut it.

Escorts are the ones that really need to keep moving, I found this little combo makes a huge difference.
Aegis Shields and deflectors, this means as long as you're moving (even if its slower than an old lady pulling a truck) you get Bonus defence.
To keep moving take a set of engines with [Aux] (available from the battlegroup), so you'll always move even when tractor beamed.
Through in that device from the Devidian series for an extra boost to defence, while not great it does keep you alive.
Another counter I have found that works brilliantly against those tractor mines, is tractor beam repulsors. Mine De-cloaks, and is instantly shoved outside of tractor beam range, and takes a few points of damage...
Its auto targeting, with a 360 degree field of engagement.
So far in PVE I've not been caught by any of the mines, heck I didn't even realise the enemies where using them until I read the forums.
Just some thoughts to try out. If they work for you all well and good if not, no worries. it works for me.
I played a few matches tonight (had to leave one but played a few regardless - both ones from the beginning and ones where the queue added to even out a time before match close).
I wasn't as badly affected due to having so many AoE abilities on my sci ship (GW, TBR, CSV, etc.).
However, I saw a few people struggling. I'm debating whether or not people should just wait to adapt to the new item (which isn't that good - it still diminishes DPS if your target escapes and within a week the numbers using it should diminish - remember, any new hotness items get overused for a week then forgotten, like the Galaxy-X being used by everyone and their mother when it first came out and now only by a few people).

Yep. It's the bandwagon effect. It's not THAT bad honestly, but flying into a cloaked minefield that decloaks you, even when there is nobody around is just annoying as hell.

It is annoying but I'd wait a week for everyone to realize that the Tractor Mines both result in decreased DPS and can be countered by each class' AoE abilities.
If it's bad in one or two weeks, definitely toss a nerf bat.
As I said, I saw people struggling and plenty of them out but I saw the same thing during the Tranphasic Cluster week, the Scorpion Fighter week, the everyone gets an Aegis week, etc.
Once the flavor-of-the-moth feeling wears off, it'll be easier to tell how much of it is just public queues players testing something out and how much of it is actually poor design.
Until then, ensure you have your classes AoE abilities ready: GW, TBR, PSW, TR, CSV, EWP, etc.
I think I was less impacted in part because I use an AoE spec to counter all the fighter spam.

I fly a tactical Defiant, theoretically the ship that's hit the most by this, because I rely on hit and run to survive. There IS a problem with this during bigger fights, when 5v5 ships spam them, but generally I haven't found it as bad as I feared it would be.

Hopefully, it'll reduce in a week when people realize it's both more easily countered and harms dps against most ships versus a traditional mine.
I'm not a fan of the item myself. It has so few applications, outside of countering speed builds or cloaks (and even then there's only a brief window before the player can take out the mines).
Wait and see for me. I hope it reduces but it's a nuisance more than a breaker for me.
People TRIBBLE wolf beofre they even had a chance to see how it playes out in normal pvp. To me it seems pvper scream about every little thing that gets added, before even looking how it affects them in the game.
As many already mentioned, forget the first week, everyone and there dog will be using them, only to realize that they
a) don't suite there playstyle.
b) sacrifice a good junk of dps, for a weak hold
c) sci ships, with there AoE abillities just press one button and render the mines useless
I will just say to this that i never realy liked PVP a lot to begin with... i played my share of PvP, became good at it, became bored again, paused a while, played a little more, sucked at it because they changed everything up... and so on... kinda like that.
After the Carriers were updated i played like 4 matches and then decided to drop PvP for good because of all the PvE + mine spam. I only see a million orange boxes on my Screen and dont even know how to target the real players in all that mess anymore.
I did not realy like it before but now i dont even want to try anymore until i get some anti PvE Pet item.
...and the Klingons realy complain about the Prometheus and want a counterpart?... lol
TRIBBLE that i will not PvP anymore until they realy update this junk to be worth my time.
its the whole oooo new thing effect. give people something new and they will use it to death remember how the Breen bio thermal dampener went on earth space dock and then after a week or two it was only used once in a blue moon. i must say however i dont use mines at all, mainly because i prefer torps and beams but also i think Starfleet wouldnt use them in an open battle like they do in game.
however as for the tractor beam mines polarize your hull its what i do all the time when i am fighting the Borg or the Breen or anyone else that hits me with tractor beams. I dont often see players use that ability but it comes in handy.

Most of the time when I get beat its from the frakin escort's that come in with the "Alpha-Stike-Intsa-Pop" maneuver, yeah that takes alot of skill to master. Skill, you want to talk about skill; there is very little skill on display in pvp matches, no one supports their team, everyone seems to be out for themselves, running off willie nillie instead of staying close to thier team mates and helping out. I think most of the whining and crying about the new mines are from players that have had their cheap no skill tactics invalidated.

So like i said before boo hoo get over it.
You really should THINK some more then.
editing for going over board and trolling and flaming
I kinda agree with you lol
Man PvP bottom feeders got thrown a huge crumb with these cloaked tractor beam mines. They are getting bold.
And the big dogs just need some cheese with there wine.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Please chihuahua go away.

There are far too many mechanics to deal with mines and far too many HUD options to lesson the information overload.
