One question that's been nipping at the game since beta is how the Terran Empire managed to reassert itself and build such a massive fleet in just 30 years.
Don't get me wrong. I LIKE the Mirror Universe being more of a mirror again. But I feel that the current "how" is inadequate.
I can see two possibilities, offhand.
1)
One is that the Terrans had outside help from the Iconians. If the Iconians are pitting everyone in our universe against eachother, they'll need someone to clean-up the stragglers if the goal is to wipe everyone out and there seems to be a nice overall "cleanness" to using the Terrans as the elite guard since they have their own universe to go back to once the job is done.
I have the gut feeling that the MU would be a place the Iconians could reach given their already demonstrated abilities to reach across space and time -- the downside being that we've seen no hints that the Iconians are pursuing or observing the Terrans.
2)
The other spins out of the IDW comics somewhat. There, we saw the very late days of the Terran Empire where Picard seized command of a ship as the Terrans were falling to the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and ordered the crew to desert and head for deep space.
If this were a somewhat common practice, it could be that parts of the Empire never fell but perhaps simply abandoned their posts and went to the Gamma and Delta Quadrants. There, they might have pillaged technology from the Krenim and Dominion and countless other groups and returned to reinforce the Empire with an abundance of new resources and technologies that has enabled the Empire to once again rival the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance, naturally along with the technology we saw them acquire during DS9's run.
Given STO's meta-arc, I'd expect the first explanation to eventually prove correct (although I wouldn't like it much).
I think the second explanation would make more sense, sort of, but it still doesn't explain things like why the mirror Terrans are still stealing ship designs from the prime universe.
Although neither explanation explains why Smiley's son would turn out to be such a jerk*ss when Smiley himself was a decent man. Unless the Iconians killed his puppy or something.
I'd like a Weekly Series to involve the Mirror Universe (And feature the backstory and explanation )
Make some awesome rewards.
I think that's also a great shot to make their uniforms more than just dingy Starfleet uniforms with a sash.
2409 outfits in Midriff variants for women and sleeveless, open, barechest variants for men. Large gold Terran emblem. But mirror/inverted for everyone with low ranking personnel maybe having just a standard inverted uniform with TE badge.
Beyond that, I think this game would be a great place for their ships to be more distinct. Sure, put the TE logo on the turbolift doors.
But for extra fun, make their interiors creepy and unsafe. Dark. Somewhat foggy. Sparks shooting off consoles as an environmental hazard. In place of tactical displays in their LCARS, have readouts showcasing Klingon skeletons and cutaways of the human body, interspliced with brief life support failure warnings.
Then there's my ultimate creepy idea that the ceiling of their ship should be a brig/agony booth. You just look up and you see people wearing agony collars, strapped into pods and screaming. Everywhere on the ship. So you have these people coldly doing their job as disobedient crew and enemies are attached to the ceiling screaming.
1. so the Iconions have given the Terrans some of their technology... suppose it would explain how they got onto DS9 without the captain guy screaming as he did when the Undine Invaded... though going by the Terran attitude... I think the End result would be... We have your technolgy... your are now of no use to us... pew pew pew pew boom.
2. hmmm seems likely.. they could of stumbeld across the dominion... then either conqured them or worked with them to build more epic ships (which introduces the purple engine glow)
Rewards... hmmm... How about a Mirror B-01 Midriff Open Uniform, with the Terran Badges on the... right side (Under the Rank insignia... or on the shoulders
Well we saw countless times in next Gen that there were numerous realities where the only difference was that one thing changed. Why can't the same be true for the mirror universe. Eventhough we se one mirror universe where the Empire fell. Why can't there be a mirror universe where the empire didn't fall and it is this the mirror we are dealing with.
At least this is how our Terran Empire fleet is operating.

Honestly that sounds more like Reavers from the Firefly series than Mirror Universe Terrans.

That sounds epic. It would be a great way to expand on them.
I'd like to see a mission where you meet the mirror universe version of yourself and you have to defeat him and use his ship to infiltrate the Terran Headquarters.
Perhaps you aid the new rebellion led by..... Molly!
And at the end you kill James O'Brien.
Incorporating your ideas for the interiors would make it epic (this would be the perfect series for next halloween series
And on my own I already am working on a Mirror Universe episode in the Foundry (I have halted production until it goes live, I just got all the groundwork laid, leaving out most of the detail )
I think after I complete that, I'm gonna take a stab at making a Mirror Universe series with this in mind.
Could ya'll give me some more idees of what you'd like to see and I'll try to incorporate them . I'll even try to come up with a reason hidden in a console that explains wat's going on.
I've got my own 5 part Mirror universe/Undine story planned :P [Feds only - Sorry klinks]
Spoiler Alert
Basically its going to follow along the lines of the Stranded Terrans stuck along the Federation/Klingon zones trying to open a rift to their universe (Yes I will have Tholians - which means for the last episode.. i'll need to wait) Your first mission takes you to a Undine "infiltration" camp... being mistaken for Undine.. you'll witness the horrors as the Terran Empire form an Alliance with the Undine.

"Look in the Mirror!" is now finished and playable on Tribble. It will, hopefully, be the first in a series to explore the mirror universe, explain the changes, and meet some old friends you thought were gone.
This episode established how you will get to the universe and is modified from a different story I was working on.

The answer could be that it was a little of both of these scenarios.;)

First one will be called... "Enemy of the Terrans" followed by "Rivalary of the Terrans" then the other 3 I wont name because your be able to peice together the picture sooner than I can make it :O

That's how I see it too, the Terran's that are attacking our universe aren't the ones from the show, they've just screwed up and are attacking the wrong universe (they mention our universe interfering in theirs even though we haven't). Maybe one day we'll get to see the real MU.
Hmm, I think what could have happened is the Terrans recieved help from sypathatic Federation officers. Sisko didn't just help out of concern for his son he went beyond that and it is possable after the war other Federation Officers sent ship plans, industral replicaters etc over to their side.

Every Mirror Episode except "In A Mirror Darkly" has featured this universe interfering in their's (Kirk changing Spock, the DS9 crew starting and helping the Rebellion)

Well dropping a constitution class cruiser into their universe and that allowing Empress Satori to take over could be considered interference.
This is the "real" mirror universe....Cant you smell the badass of the Terrans? :O
Edit - Wrong person quoted
In case it was me you were talking to this being a noncano n game I would hazard to say.. no its not the original. That said as for the second hell yes. Hence the reason I and some others formed a Terran empire fleet that actually rps and works up stories and story arcs based on the Empire. Heck we just started the story arc "Operation Anvil".
Please forgive any misspelled words. I'm reading the forums and replying via my phone. I have no idea how I got Satori and not sato. Anyway I loved it and the TOS episode. Was not impressed with the DS-9 stuff.

You misunderstood me. I'm saying there's 2 mirror universes, the show's one (in TOS DS9 and ENT) and the game's one. We've interfered in the show's one (as you said) but NOT the game's one. We had never encountered it until those missions in the game. They're attacking us because someone else interfered with them (a fourth universe, or the iconians perhaps) and they think we did it. It's the only way to explain why the game MU is so different to the show MU.

The game references the fall of the Terran Empire and Rise of the KCA from Deep Space Nine as part of its history in missions.
Personally, I've always liked the mirror universe from the TNG book "Dark Mirror" by Diane Duane. It was written before the DS9 mirror episodes came out, so it posited an MU scenario where Spock's reforms failed, he was executed, and the Empire grew and grew until it was now within forseeable distance of the foretold collapse simply due to its sheer size and the vast distances they would have to travel to reach new, habitable planets.
I particularly like how the Enterprise in that book is described...a darker, meaner ship, a hull coloured gunmetal grey, a ship that routinely carries various weapons of mass destruction...even the shape being somewhat sleeker, sharper and more aggressive-looking than the typical Galaxy class design. It's a stack of little differences that add up to a more unsettling whole.

Yeah, but I meant purposefully interference, but you are right. Good job on catching that
BTW, INAMD is my favorite ENT episode ever.
