Ship Interiors: What 3 functions do YOU want?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
What are the top 3 functions you'd like to see added to your starship's interior?

Currently, interiors have only one function that I know of: MISSION REPLAY.

Mission Replay is cool, but I'd like to see more. I'm sure the DEVs have A LOT of neat things in store for our ship interiors in the future, but let's all daydream while we wait!

What are the top 3 functions you'd like to see added to your starship's interior?

:) PLEASE LIMIT YOUR LIST TO ACTUAL FUNCTIONS :) Cosmetic changes such as customization need not apply (I'm sure this tops most people's list anyway).

My top 3 functions to be added to interiors would be:

#3 - CARGO BAYS: I'd like to see cargo bays as actual options for on-ship storage and inventory. I'd like to see these not only as a place you can go visit akin to the strangely named "bank" on space stations now, but also as a SLOT on ship setups. Some players might buy (or win!) larger cargo bays for larger storage. Some smaller ships might now allow such big cargo bays. Either way, I'd like the function of having more storage space on my ship in the form of a cargo bay.

#2 - HOLODECKS: I'd like to see holodecks added to ships not just as a place to have a possible mission (Dixon Hill or SHerlock Holmes holodeck program gone awry, anyone? :D) but I'd like to see ship's holodecks be something I can go to for target practice, space battle simulations, or just having a relaxing Elizabethan holiday while carting the B'Tran cluster.

#1 - You thought it would be the ability to travel to a new destination via the bridge, didn't you? :D I suppose it is, but that's a whole other thread (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=199757). An improved transporter? No, silly! (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=193100) At #1 on my list would be SHUTTLE BAYS: The awesome episode "The Vault" introduced us to the world of shuttlecraft, runabouts, and the Delta Flyer. I want to be able to go to my shuttle bay via my interior, select my shuttle and LAUNCH FROM MY CURRENT POSITION. To me, this would be awesome beyond belief.

The ability to craft within your ship so you don't have to go back and forth between Memory Alpha and where you get your crafting items.

    1. Get rid of memory alpha, add and expand crafting on our ship.

    2. Get rid of the "BANK" and move all storage to our ship's cargo bays.

    3. Get rid of medical officers on Earth Space Dock, Deep Space Nine, etc. You want to heal? Go to your sickbay.

Sick bay / Engineering - to repair injuries (I count this as one item because it's basically the same purpose)
    Science Lab - crafting
Shuttle Bay - Allow switching between ships in flight

Mess Hall: shenanigans of all sorts should happen here. Watch your crew sing, watch an Orion dance, watch/join in fights and play mini games or even a way to make rare foods mini game.

Engineering: All sorts of mini games can happen here, including crafting and saving the ship from all sorts of crazy warp core breaches and random things.

Science Lab: Discovery of new life mini game, mixing common resources to make rare crafting resources mini game and a tribble breading mini game. or even a way to make rare foods mini game. (moved to Mess Hall)

Wish this was not only a top 3, I could add so much more :(

    *added*
Thanks Turtlewing, you're right! I fixed it :D

The making rare foods mini-game really should be in the mess hall.

As OP I hereby grant permission to list more than just your top 3. :D

Here, I'll list a few more of mine:

    #4 - POKER MINI GAME

    #5 - SCIENCE LAB/CRAFTING MIMI GAME

#6 - HOLODECK TARGET PRACTICE (that game with phasers we've seen Worf, Seven of Nine and Janeway play) MINI GAME

This may seem silly but in addition to the regular good stuff mentioned here Holodeck (awesome ideas spring from this) cargo bay to augment player inventory, and engineering /labs for research and development. I want crew quarters deck to be a complete circle and actually have an armory, an exchange, and crew quarters ranging from family size to enlisted bunks. Most of that is just fluff but it is role playing fluff that i would love to see.

I like to explore my ship and right now it feels ok but i find the oddest things missing. I was showing my friend my ship and he loved that my bridge had my personal crew on it. He also really enjoyed that there were crew men wandering around down on the other decks. Then as i was showing off my quarters and lamenting that I could not change anything he spotted a door I had not gone through. he asked what it was and i said I guess the closet or toilet. he asked what it looked like and I said it is a fake door like many others on my decks.

So in short my request would be copy and pasted rooms behind the doors on the crew deck family style on the outer side of the ring and more cramped bunks on the inner and a space age bathroom here and there. I know it is really silly but it would give the ship a more complete feel a living feel if you will.

Also I would love the shirt colors to be in their proper sections currently I have medical officers manning my warp core and engineering in the labs and sick bay. As I said before though these are all low the Holodeck, cargo bay, and engineering/labs for my R&D/crafting.

P.S. I want all the turbo lifts or doors on the bridge to open and go somewhere!

I would like to have my crew acknowledge me as I walk through the decks. The occasional crew member with a bubble that says, "Captain." (or Admiral) as I walk by. Or maybe "Sir." Not on every person who walks by, but from some of them.

A medals case in the ready room that displays the medals we've earned from Accolades. I know you can see it all by going to the Accolades window, but I think it would be more immersive to put it in the ready room.

Sickbay and Engineering that heal injures. But only the minor and medium. Leave the nastiest injuries as needing to return to a starbase to fix (like Picard's heart replacement, or a stay in drydock.)

A holodeck as the launching point for user-generated content or mission replay. That way, you're running through a holo-novel or a simulation of "actual/historical events".

That sweet briefing/conference room form that one Cardassion diplomacy mission. Make it useful in some way. It just feels like the map for the bridge is missing a room.

In general, I would like to see alot of the menues removed and put to their own ship-interior-specific spots. Like the bank/cargo bay thing, but also an armory type place for weapon crafting, the mess hall for consumables, a tailor, etc... That way, there's a logical reason and a mechanical reason to force us to return time and again to our ship interiors.

Ok I think that Klingon And Federations ships should have slightly different functionality. Now the Duty officer system thing will add lots of cool things, so I am not going talk about wanting a med-bay to heal myself or ship or stuff like that, because I think that is already coming. So if it's in the spirit of the Topic, I will do Klingon And Starfleet separately.

    STARFLEET

Poker- Poker is probably the in the top 3 (maybe even second) in the list of things I want in this game. I really really want poker!

Missions- I would like little side missions that take place on board my ship. Problems with my crew, or something catering to the specific careers.

Customizable Interior- I want near fully customizable interiors. Especially the Ready Room!

    KLINGON

Fights And Challenges- I think you should see the occasional fight or receive the occasional Melee challenge from a crew member.

Targ Breeding- I know this might be coming, and I simply want to be able to manage it from the interior instead of my Inventory.

    Customizable Interior- Same as Fed.

#1. Missions on board my ship as someone mentioned earlier.

#2. Useable brig as someone else mentioned (Yeah, I'm not very original, I think these are very good ideas though)

#3. Limited crafting, see my post here http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=205362

    1. Customizable BO locations and crew uniforms.

    2. Minor missions (diplomacy maybe)

    3. Shuttlecraft launching :)

Crafting (preferably in the Engineering Lab), use of the holodeck to access mission replay and Foundry, mini-games in various parts of the ship from poker to stuff you can do in engineering (for example) that will give your ship some sort of buff.

If our ships were like the ones in the movies or on TV, we'd be able to store our stuff, craft and heal our wounded onboard. If this were true in the game, the only times we'd ever need to dock is for the exchange, ship customization/requisitions and to train officers.

It would take the social atmosphere out of STO's already limited social atmosphere.

What I propose is a limited functionality of what can be done on our ships.

Allow crafting in engineering but limit it to certain things. Perhaps personal items, consumables and consoles can be crafted on board but not ship weapons or shields.

Allow healing in the sickbay but not for the critical injuries.

Use the holodeck as access to Foundry missions.

Use the ship's cargo bay to store commodity based items (food, provisions, etc)

I know that was 4 but it kinda all went together.

    1. Holodeck

    2. Holodeck

    3. Holodeck

I can live with crafting at Memory Alpha, and I'm fine without a working Sick Bay or Engineering, as sensible as they would be. But we could really use a combat simulator for playing around with setups and mechanics in a small, controllable environment.

i won't say shuttlebays or crafting because that is coming.
    1) Bank
    2) The ability to change ships
    3) something ridiculous like tailor

Engineering Lab: (yes, we have one) - Crafting, at least in regards to personal items and *maybe* consoles. Larger items, like all the starship weapons, engines, and shields, would still be done at Memory Alpha (and possibly ESD).

Engineering: Repairs to the starship when it suffers minimal damage, and partially repair major damage. Repairs for critical injuries would still be done at any of the starbases in the game.

Sickbay: Treatment of minor to medium injuries. Critical injuries would still be treatable at various starbases.

I know it said three, but I have one more:

Holodeck: Testing starship/personal setups without "penalties," depending on difficulty settings.

I have simple needs. A Captains toilet, and a hidden compartment for Romulan Ale. There is a link between these two items, so one of them is merely there for a sense of completion. ;)

( The ale inside the compartment would make it three things, otherwise, throw in a shuttlebay, they offer a nice view sometimes. )

Engineering/Science Lab - Crafting, tribble breeding, science mini-games

Sickbay/Engineering - Heal injuries or ship systems

Cargo Bay - Bank type place to store your goods...and hopefully with multiple tabs

Extra: Shuttle Bay - Really need the ability to change into your shuttles from your ship and not have the shuttle take a precious ship slot. There should be shuttle/fighter slots, and you can own no more than 3 or 4.

Your top 3 are pretty much my top 3. Except I'd switch holodecks and shuttlebays around. And a wardrobe that function as a tailor would come in 4th, with a partial crafting list availiable in engineering coming in 5th place.

As simple as it sounds, I'd like to be able to drop any item in my inventory into my ship. The ability to decorate our personal quarters with our looted items. I know we can already place some trophies up but I'd like this to go further.

    1.) Engineering/Sickbay - Fix up injuries.

2.) Shuttle Bay - For flying shuttles (would be even cooler if the room would display the shuttles you own).

3.) The ability to play ONE mission where you have to fight/reason with a half-mad "duplicate" of yourself created by a malfunctioning transporter into going back with you through the transporter so you can recombine both halves of yourself.

Functioning ships would include many things!

    Rooms we have:

Bridge: Search for missions from your bridge! Contact Starfleet via subspace on your view screen to get missions. Find annomalies, distress ships, enemies and other side missions via ship sensors. Plot the course via helm controls with the help of your helmsman of course!

Transporter: Beam me down to where I need to go by using my ships transporters like done in stranded in space.

Engineering: Others have mentiond that we should have a mini game option via the Engineering to repair ship damage, aditionally there could be minigames that give us minor boosts to certain systems, maybe like the Diplomatic Explore missions, you get these minimissions once an hour and it gives a slight boost to a ship performance for that hour.

Medical Bay: Again mentioned is the ability to heal via minigame in the medical bay.

Science/Engineering Lab: Mentioned was crafting and I believe Stahl has elluded to the fact that we will have crafting on our ships.

Ten Forward/Mess: Give me a Gynan, Quark or Nelix and a functioning replicator, and loads of minigames! Crew interaction or friends from other ships.

Rooms not on the current interiors:

Shuttle Bay: Already alluded to is that we will launch our shuttles from the shuttle bay.

Cargo Bay: Again mentioned and I think is a great idea is this is our bank! This is where we store and transport items and since we have transporters in our cargo bays we have access to our "bank" as long as we have contact with our ship!

Holodeck: I can see this being a minimission area that we can go for relaxation or training purposes. A nother location for minigames such as fishing, pool, cobat scenarios, etc.

Briefing room: Debrief Boffs and Doffs after missions or to give orders for these missions.

I might be able to think of some more later...

    1. This may be a hopelessly dumb idea, but I'd like to see the holodeck included as a sort of 'foundry plus'; where it might be possible to introduce whole new game modes. I'd really like to see things like the 'Battle of Britain' dogfighting game O'Brian and Bashere used to play in the DS9 holosuites, or a 'Captain Proton' point and click adventure game. Heck, maybe Atari could release game demos in there.

    Probably isn't possible; but it's a fun idea. :D

    2. What's a Star Trek crew without a little drama? As others have pointed out, having little missions inside our ships every now and then would really liven things up a bit. Tribble infestations, mysterious accidents, non corporeal entities, the possibilities are endless.

    3. This ties into the department head and duty roster stuff, but I want my bridge stations to actually be specific stations; and I want to pick who sits each one. I want there to be a helm, I want to choose my helmsman, and I want that choice to make some sort of difference to how the ship flies. Same with the tactical console, science stations, etc.

I'd like to see that too, to be addressed by my crew occasionally as i walk past them around my ship.
And that's a good idea for the holodeck that i was thinking of too. With UGC i could see players creating missions for both out in the star trek universe, and inside as holodeck programs, and the ability to choose which kind they would want to create. that would be cool. Choosing to create a holodeck program mission, for example, could unlock all sorts of assets and textures (for a 20th century Dixon Hill story for instance) that you wouldn't get to use for STO universe missions.

I'd like functioning replicators in my ship too. Last i checked they didn't work. We have a sort of replicator off the inventory window, so it shouldn't be hard to transfer that functionality to an actual replicator in our lounge/ mess hall. (only limiting it to drinks and food)
