So I've been wondering for a while who made the Jupiter Class Dreadnought? I for one love it, but I never did figure out who the designer was... The only thing I could dredge up was the name CapnLogan, don't know the validity of it but there it is.
Anyone know?
Are there plans to make the Jupiter playable (a retrofit with fresh paint and a polish?)?
Honestly, if the devs were going to add a Dreadnought or Carrier for the Federations, I'd much rather see the Typhon class, than I would the Jupiter. There's just something cool about it's design that the Jupiter/space titanic doesn't have.

We do *cough* Galaxy X *cough*
Besides, the Jupiter class doesn't need to be a carrier.

I'm not sure I'd put the Galaxy Dreadnought in that category, even despite the name. It's more like a slightly upgraded Cruiser.
For me at least, a Dreadnought is a giant tank that can soak up more damage than any other ship in the game, while still maintaining good DPS due to a vast number of weapon slots. However, it's turning rate is so limited that faster ships can use their speed to try and keep out of it's broadside if it's using phasers, limiting it's DPS capabilities. This would make the Dreadnought the best ship for a turret build in the game, since it has more weapons slots than other ships, but can't turn fast enough to use anything but turrets effectively.
A carrier is like a Dreadnought, with a slow turning rate, but with less weapons slots, less hull, and less shields, but with fighter launching capabilities for support.
I would love to see this ship for players. I instantly fell in love with it when I joined the fleet to fight the Borg.
If all my dreams were to come true, the Jupiter would fit in to the Escort tree of ships. It would be more geared for cannons and cannon abilities than beams or science.
Escorts really need some more support. There are many good cruiser options and a number of good science options. I honestly have no interest in Andorians or their ship that looks like the first warp vessel. The Jupiter could really shake things up.
Ship skills in the form that they are now, are nearly unbreakable shackles for creative builds. If you want to change ships, it could mean a respec and a painful hour or more in the skill window.

You think the Jupiter could work as an Escort? Don't you think it's a bit too big and slow for that?
The Jupiter is terrible. Warp nacelles from a Hope Class and the main saucer is a stretched Discovery class saucer. It's an awful kitbash that should be removed from the game.
It was removed from the game and with good reason. It looks completely alien next to any other Federation ship. I expect greater consistency in the design for Starfleet. After all ships of different designs like the Vulcan science ship and hopefully the Andorian Battlecruiser will be there too for people who dislike Starfleet design philosophy.

That ship needs to be recommissioned as a garbage scow. Wait, wait...what I meant to say is, that ship needs to be hauled off /by/ a gabage scow!

You forgot that the deflector region is an upside-down Gryphon hull
Whoever designed the Jupiter class should be slapped with a fish
I agree, the ugly thing looks like a triggerfish anyways. All of the cryptic original ships are ugly and barely follow starfleet design standards, but this is the worst.
I noticed the one heading the borg task force was replaced with a galaxy x.
Ouch... Thanks for the support :^D. I know the Jupiter needs some work but overall I think it is a nice looking ship and is a refreshing sight from most of the other Federation ships (for me anyway). I think it should have a chance to be playable and if you don't like it as a ship, don't get it.
I do like the Typhoon quite a bit and I would hope that both ships get into the game as player usable.

While it may be large, I am sure they could find ways to keep it in line with Escorts. The Escort role should not be limited to "it turns fast and dies instantly (also does less damage than some cruisers)."
I see it as a large gunship, still a support vessel of sorts. It would not be a carrier, would not have good science facilities, not have the materials for extended exploration or colony support. This ship could have a place patrolling the periphery of a fleet group or supporting a starbase.
While the Jupiter itself is a large craft, it could be geared for fighting smaller craft such as fighters, shuttles, birds of prey, etc. These small craft, that are too fast for larger ships to bring in to their firing arcs, could easily be hit by a gun boat covered in turrets.
Oh how I would love for the Jupiter Dreadnought to be released as a large Starfleet Science Vessel. It may sound odd but it is my current favorite non-playable ship.

I agree, the type of vessel you described is exactly what I described earlier in the thread. IMO, I'd rather see them add the Typhon to fill that role. The Jupiter is just too ugly, plain and simple.
not the flying fridge come on it a box a damn ugly eyesore i was glad when the removed it out of the game at least the typhoon actually looks like a starfleet vessel i really dont know what they were thinking with the jupiter my guess is they were drunk or loss a bet and had to include it in-game
What id=f the Jupiter had a touch up? I know many don't like it because of the nacelles and pylons, so what if they were tweaked?

im sorry but i will always see the flying fridge, but than thats my opinion, if you want it start asking for it! if you get great but please dont be hurt if your flying through sector space and you get a pm from me asking for a six pack :D:eek:

anything on the typhoon? :O
Yeah, but even still...the Typhoon needs a visual update if made playable. Better windows, escape pods and detailing/decals all around.

Thankfully.
