Idea: Repeatable Patrol of Sirius Sector Block

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Three things I was recently thinking about:
  • Sector patrol missions are pretty fun, but they aren't replayable through mission replay or team sharing.
  • The repeatable Aiding the Daferi patrol mission has some level of randomization, but it is still relatively repetitive.
  • Lots of the systems in the Sirius Sector Block are interesting/iconic, but there's no reason to visit most of them and some can't be visited outside of their Episodes.
So then I thought: What about a daily repeatable Sirius Sector Block patrol mission? It makes sense lore-wise, seeing as Starfleet patrols would be pretty regular in the heart of the Federation. Also, it would use existing art assets, so it wouldn't take too many resources to develop, like the new Emancipation daily.

There could also be a Klingon equivalent, patrolling the Klingon Empire's home sector block.

The Overall Gist of The Idea

The repeatable episode could be unlocked by completing all three Sirius Sector Block sector patrols and the standard Sirius Sector Block missions, like Diplomatic Orders. There could maybe also be a minimum rank, somewhere between Commander and Rear Admiral LH. Enemy difficulty would scale according to level and the episode would reward Emblems at Vice Admiral.

The idea is that most of the systems in the sector block would have a sub-mission start point relevant to that system, with a few variations in how the sub-mission plays out. The Episode selects a random selection of 3 to 6 (equal to the Emblems rewarded at VA) Sirius Sector Block systems, which it gives you the sub-missions for.

This means each time you run the daily it will generally be very different, with different systems chosen and different random sub-mission variants in each system, varying in focus between ground combat, space combat and diplomacy.

Ideas For Sub-Mission Variants
  • Wolf 359 - Investigate Unlicensed Salvage Operations:
    • Confront Ferengi Salvage Team [Diplomacy]
    • Stop Nausicaan/Gorn/Orion Looters [Space Combat]
    • Confront Romulan Salvage Team (looking for Borg tech) [Diplomacy]/[Space Combat]
  • P'Jem - Escort Romulan Ambassador on Cultural Visit:
    • Protect him from assassination attempt [Ground Combat]
    • He is an assassin! Protect the Vulcans [Ground Combat]
    • He was revealed to be an Undine and has fled to his ship [Space Combat]
  • Vulcan - Respond to Security Alert:
    • Investigate false security alert raised by crazy Vulcan [Diplomacy]
    • Apprehend Romulan terrorists (lack of aid in the Hobus supernova revenge) [Diplomacy]/[Ground Combat]
    • Prevent Romulan/Klingon/etc attackers from escaping the system [Space Combat]
  • Andoria - You Have Been Requested at the Ushaan Duelling Site:
    • Starfleet Officer, Klingon, believes you killed his father and dishonoured his house, so has challenged you to a duel [Diplomacy]/[Ground Combat]
    • Starfleet Admiral, Andorian, wants you to run security at his Ushaan, as he believes there is a plot against him [Ground Combat]
    • FDC Ambassador, Andorian, requests you persuade a rival not to challenge him [Diplomacy]
  • Actually probably not: SS Azura -Respond to Distress Signal:
    • Beam engineering team over to repair the Azura then defend against Klingon/Gorn/Orion/Nausican ships [Space Combat]
    • It was a trap, using stolen communications codes. Defeat attackers then shut down the signal emitter [Space Combat]
  • Federation Transport - Respond to Distress Signal:
    • Defend Transport against Klingon/Gorn/Orion/Nausicaan ships [Space Combat]
    • Collect scattered cargo pods which are being looted by Klingon/Gorn/Orion/Nausicaan ships [Space Combat]
  • Lackey System - Investigate Suspicious Sensor Readings:
    • Defeat Klingon/Gorn/Orion/Nausicaan attack force [Space Combat]
    • Beam away team onto disabled Federation Cruiser to defeat enemy boarding party [Ground Combat]
  • Other Systems - Other Missions:
    • I'm sure you get the idea.
That's about it, really. What do people think?

They'll just put in some new stuff when they get around to setting a Feature Series in Sirius. That's the strategy for those things - going around to old places and sticking in some new stuff. You've seen what they managed with Eta Eridani... now people actually go there and use the stations like K7, Drozana and Gandala that no one went to before and there are dailes there so people actually keep coming back.

They just need to set something in Sirius in the future and boom, stuff happens.

The next areas will either be Romulan or Cardassian space though. I wouldn't mind either of those. Starbase 39 could use some more visits by setting it as the base for a series in Romulan space where you find out more about the Hobus thing and also as Iconia is in Romulan space, they could tie it into them as a prequel for new end-game content.

Alternatively, I wouldn't mind having a reason to go to DS9 again and see that place get some love and revisit Captain Kurland and Commander Charles in Ops. Then you could flesh out that mirror universe storyline and probably meet your mirror double!

Until then, they will probably rely on people making their own foundry missions set in Sirius for you to play.

Good point. Regardless of whether anything like this gets implemented by Cryptic, I might use some of these ideas as the basis for Foundry missions once it's released on Holodeck.

I support this idea. I really like the idea of a 'Sub-Mission Variants' idea to try and introduce some Randomness to encounters. It would be great to see some more Playable Story content to the existing game closer to ESD. The Sirius Sector is basically empty for me right now and it feels like the game locations you mentioned have been forgotten about :(.

I love the sound of most of these and like the ones I don't. This would be awesome.

    Thanks for the positive feedback.

Hopefully someone from Cryptic will see this and also like the idea. :p

    Signed, sounds good to me.

Our Klingon home sector lends perfectly to something like this.

I would love for them to do an overhaul of DS9 to make it look a little more realistic. Right now it looks almost cartoonish. I would also like to see the habitat ring and the docking ring. Basically, I want to be able to go almost anywhere in DS9.

To drag it back to the topic, I still think something like this with a version each for the Federation Starfleet and the KDF would be really neat.

That would mean Klingons would be flying around right next to Earth. Conversely, that would mean they would need to open up the Klingon homeworld sector to Feds.

I like these ideas. The main problem is that there's a lack of something similar on the Klingon side. Now the random aspect of random systems to patrol each with random missions is a most excellent one, and I hope it will catch on.

I did actually mention in the first post that there could also be a Klingon version too, I just focussed on the the detail of the Federation version.

Interestingly I'm wondering if or when we'll see new dailies from this mission set. In the past wee've seen them before now.

Yeah, I don't know. It hasn't really tied in to the story yet. If there is a daily mission which is something like breaking in to a Tal Shiar facility to free Reman Resistance prisoners or helping the Remans defend a hideout place against the Tal Shiar, that would only make sense if it was after the fifth mission. It is only after the fourth mission that we present the evidence showing that we really have to get involved in the situation, and our superiors are still considering it so haven't yet given us newer orders yet.
