He's lying there is not anything like that. And thus, spam.
I think there is enough. There are some missions more focused on ground and more focused on space. The vault had no ground combat at all! And the latest mission had no space combat. Just like actual Star Trek.
I'm all in favor of a healthy mixture of both. Granted there ARE days where I feel like all of one or the other I appreciate that the game actually offers us a few different styles of play. Something for everyone!
Plus my opinion at least of space combat can vary based on ship, career, level, and enemy mob
I applaud your approach to focus on telling good stories.
Some of the best star trek moments, for me, are the ones that focus on the people and their relationships to one another. Your character work with Obisek is a great step in that direction. I, for one, would like to see more of that.
No, i want a lot more ground missions. Space combats are too many in the game. In star trek is ground battle, diplomatic or explore missions too important.
I find I much prefer ground combat. Space has it's moments certainly but they tend not to hold my interest for long. Ground combat however is much more interesting and this forthcoming update can only make it even more interesting
I don't mind the ground episodes at all. I choose ground missions only when I can, like on explore chains. And at least in the daily mission chains, they have far too much space combat only ones already; out of five sub-missions in the Deferi dailies, for instance, only one is on the ground. And the Eta Eridani ones are all space combat. Shoot five ships gets pretty boring after you've done it 1,000 times. Ground can get tedious too, but it actually allows for a lot wider range of tactics and setups, so it has more potential for playing around once you learn what works.
Count me as another fan of ground combat. I really enjoy working out the tactics involved and it gets really good when some group of mobs is kicking my butt repeatedly and I keep trying new tactics and eventually win. One incident in particular kept me pulling my hair out for almost an hour before I finally won. Although there have been a few times when I decided to cut my losses and skip it after a few bouts.
While I'm not very much a fan of ground combat in STO in general, and I really hope that the revamp helps (I know combat in CO doesn't bug me) I think the way it's done in the episodes is fine because its really story driven instead of say an exploration mission where you just run to 5 spots on the map and kill a wad of aliens.
The Featured Series Episodes are very much not like that, so the shortcomings of the ground combat system, like spamming the fire button for eternity while mobs that aren't any kind of threat to you slowly die are de-emphasized.
I do think ground combat can be massively better with some minor tweaks, like shorter ability cool downs for non-tactical folks, and even giving more meaningful and separate points for speccing into ground. Tactical can be really fun on the groun, sci and eng a lot less so because most of what you would do is just spam fire. It would also be nice if we could script our Boffs a bit better on how to act, or at the bare minimum they were about smarter by default about following targets and how they use their abilities. I like playing my character, I'm not so much invested into playing my BOFFs.
I think Space Combat would be better served through dailies (the ones in the neutral zone are pretty good IMO) and better designed space fleet actions.
...our approach for Feature Episodes is to go where the story takes us.
So since the story is the key component, we can't always force space combat into the episode.
There is a small amount of space combat in the next episode though in case you are wondering.
This is one of the things that sets the Featureds apart in my less-than-humble opinion. We just do not know what we'll get till we are there. I like that, because it removes the feeling of having "Formulaic" episodes. I am not a big fan of being able to say; "Oh, here comes the ground combat," or, "This next bit is going to be a scan five _____ segment."
I prefer space COMBAT, but on the ground is where my CHARACTER is seen, I am not a SHIP, I am a captain of a ship.. I like being able to run around on foot and do missions, especially that recent one with the Horta, was great, but I do love space combat.. can't wait till ground gets revamped though. i'm hoping for basically mass effect style shooter.. but I know it won't happen since the whole "aim with your mouse" is just going to be casual-ified and be "optional" just like the death penalty.. kind of went off on a tangent rant there but yeah. woo.

I think you guys are doing a fantastic job with the FEs, and I agree with this outlook. However, there are times when you could include it without it being forced. For example, in last weeks episode you beam out right before getting shot. I actually expected to be fighting a Rom ship to escape from that system. IMO, a final space battle would end that story perfectly.

And I can't think of any series captain that would have left that system without destroying that satellite. I was very surprised we at least didn't get to do that.

I'd say this is mostly the best approach.
That said, maybe starting a series with a story where space combat being a mainstay would be a good idea? There are plenty of scenarios where it would make sense, like perhaps a Fed-Klingon War interlude series or something. That way you can still follow the story, but the story is going to be likely to take you into more space combat.
(I personally don't mind going anywhere for the story - ground, space, combat, puzzles, what have you... but I understand why some people might be a little annoyed at the heavy ground emphasis of late.)

Isn't that more or less what happened with this series? Vault was all space combat and no ground, while most of the followup have been the opposite.

IMO, that's exactly as it should be. I have really enjoyed all of the weeklies, and I feel that putting the story first and building around the plot is the way to go. As long as it's a well-spun tale that draws me in and holds my interest, I don't really care if it's in space or on the ground. (Though I don't hate ground combat like some seem to, unless it's vs. the Borg and their endless chain holds.)

Well I absolutely support cryptics approach speaking for myself, I'd much rather we get what makes sense to the story than shoe horning more of X, Y, or Z to suit other demands.
If folks want more space combat do a daily or a patrol or visit a cluster..there is more than enough space combat available to us as is
