I think that was The Borg in that one Enterprise eposide. They never did say where this beacon was sending a signal to.
no it was at the end, I remember because they copied it in "Regeneration". At the end, the 'mother' parasite inside the dude had been transmitting co-ordinates to an unknown region of space.
edit: found it on mem. alpha
It is learned that all the creatures died when the mother creature was killed, but that Remmick had sent out a homing beacon shortly before his death.
they got phone calls from people saying they are ruining start trek or something. I was at a convention like 20 years ago and they said they where not going to continue it bcause people hated it.
Sadly this is probably never going to happen, because STO's engine doesn't have the ability to make the heads of parasite-controlled NPCs explode like rotten pumpkins stuffed with dynamite.
As for anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, I merely seek...PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE.

Thats kinda ironic giving that I see those same comments here alot, only with Cryptic and this game instead.
We are talking about the episode that had the fed infiltrated by worms of some sort, correct? Last epiosde of the first season?
I am not saying it was true, but I was at a convention here in ottawa with.....the lady who played Troi.
Anyways, before she came on there was some paramount people talking different things. They were answering questions and one was about a continuation of that story line. He said that the script went through alot of changes before it came to be what you saw on screen and they received alot of flack because
1) It was gross and
2) it wasn't Star Trek because of the conspiracy plotline (of course, they did this quite a bit with the dominion threat but that was later)
The conspiracy plotline seems indistinct: we already have Founder and Undine infiltrators as well as both Romulans and Iconians trying to pull strings.
It just seems like we have a lot of similar ideas going on in-game.

Shame. The eposides were not that bad IMO. They certainly werent Genesis or Threshold bad. Oh well. I just hate unresolved plots. Thats one thing that bugs me about the Klingon PvE content.
They needed more horror in the show so it's unfortunate they never continued. I believe in a more gritty universe even if the Federation is very clean and such.
They need to continue the storyline on STO as it could make an interesting storyline.
Think about it. We have the Undine and these worms both trying to infiltrate the federation and starfleet command.
On another site- don't know the rule about naming sites- on the page for that episode it mentions that this was one early idea for what became the borg. The beacon was sent to "an un-explored sector of our galaxy" (Data) supposedly to go back to the borg. But, for budget reasons cyborgs were cheaper than insects. So, we never get a follow up in cannon. In the novels the bugs turn out to be evil trills or something.

Odd, you think that it'd be the other way around with the bugs being cheaper and the cyborgs being more expensive.
Back when I was GMing a Star Trek campaign at University of Guelph, one of the storylines I used was that those alien parasites made another attempt to conquer the Federation. They did it by taking over the Gorn, who were on a largely undefended border (since the Gorn and Federation were allies - I followed the Starfleet Command history).
I may make a similar story for STO if I can figure out how to use the Foundry.
You guys need to read Star Trek: Deep space Nine UNITY novel. I deals with the parasites and how they have a common ancestry to the trills symbiotes. It all takes place about a year after DS9's 7th season and leads into Bajor joining the Federation.

Interesting idea, re: Trills. I never had access to that, my story came before the Trill were introduced.
I may see if I can incorporate that to some degree.
Wernt those bugs that took over star fleet originally supposed to be agents of the borg? Although I heard that idea was scrapped as a story line.
They were in fact supposed to be the Borg, but the idea was scrapped due to some special effects budget concerns and the Borg became what we know them to be today.
I'd love to see some sort of follow-up myself to the Conspiracy episode. Not necessarily within STO since we are heavy with supposed infiltration already by Undine (as previously mentioned). It would be cool to see these little parasites to make some sort of appearance.
Perhaps it could be used as a gimmick to have a mission on your ship interior? Accidental exposure and it's brought back up to the ship after an exploration mission? I see the Foundry folks perhaps getting their hands on this idea.

Yeah. The idea was that the Conspiracy parasites and the unknown alien race scooping up starbases along the Romulan neutral zone in the very next episode The Neutral Zone were supposed to be the same race that Q introduced the crew to a year latter in Q Who?. But obviously they changed the bugs into the Borg. So The Neutral Zone was a sequel to Conspiracy, and Q Who was a sequel to The Neutral Zone as seen when Worf reports the destruction on the surface of the planet in system J-25 was identical to the destruction of the Starbases the year prior in The Neutral Zone.
Someone said it, but I thought I read on Mem Beta or something that it was the Arch Enemies of the Trills or something.
But then I have always been a fan of "seek out new life and new civilizations". Hey the Universe is a big place. It is quite possible that there are races out there that make the Borg and Undine look like preschool children as could own the Iconians and make the Q shake in terror.
Comments
Particuarly when that guy ate one in that one epsiode.
Well I always thought so to, considering that they sent a signal out towards the "Delta quadrant?".
and yeah, I would like to see that ep followed up... those parasite things were WEIRD

Trek may change, but the Trekkie is constant.

Cool if you want some help I would be more than be happy to help.
