I hadn't played since November. I came back last night and after two hours of updating I finally logged in and got to see the new layout. Everything is much nicer! A year has really improved the graphics for this game.
The last thing I remember doing was playing the Deferi missions. What else is new since then?
And what's all this talk about Borg and Reman shields? Where do you get those?
I was surprised to see so many people in the shiny new Earth spacedock last night too! ESD looks SO much better!
My ship still sucks...I guess nothing much has been done to improved the Dreadnought yet?
Foundry spotlight missions don't seem to have gotten a mention. The foundry itself is still only on tribble, but they copied four popular missions over to holodeck, they'll show up under the community authored tab in the contact list.
I'm pretty sure holodeck hasn't gotten the pathfinding fix that tribble was supposed to, though. Last time I played them, NPC pathfinding made them a bit frustrating.
Their are two new featured series check out The Federation-Klingon Neutral zone (Captain Drake) and Starbase 34 (Admiral T'ane).
The Borg set is one of the new ship sets, the Reman shield is a reward from the latest featured series. The Borg set requires you to run through the Borg SFT missions and Assimilated to complete the set and the Aegis(Tron) set is a group of top tier crafting items.
New ESD is really sweet, I thought it would get old after a bit but I still fly into the space dock doors.
This is part of a Tribble update from a day or two ago:
Increased the number of aft weapon slots from 3 to 4.
If your looking for a MEGA AWESOME NEGHVAR EATING * expletive* GALAXY X then you will probably still be disappointed, the small updates will probably just put it more on par with the current cruisers.
There are a few new ships in the C-store, although big news on that front is that every ship outside of the Galaxy X is avalible for ingame emblems now. They all cost 500 which seems like a lot but I did the math a while back and it only equals to about a month of doing several of the daily missions in a sitting.
You should also check out the first mission "Stranded in Space". Its been remastered with support for alternative accolades for specific captain types, cutscenes, etc. and it fun to play through.
The devs also added two new melee weapons, the Vulcan Lirpa and a Nassusican Sword, so if your a fan of that check out the latest weekly series (Starbase39/Admiral T'nae)
Overall its been a steady march towards making the game better and better so hope you enjoy it.
Oh, thank you! This information is very helpful. Is there anything spectacularly important I should know about buffs or console changes that have greatly affected gameplay? I remember the last time I took a hiatus and came back to find this proto-type console thing and then there was that bit when the energy drain made EPS consoles 1,000,000 EC bounties. Anything at all like that I should be aware of?
Was there ever a use for those very rare (bound to you) anomaly items?
Are STFs still requiring you to run with other players?
I can't really give you a good answer with this one, although I play pretty regularly I don't usually keep up on the skill by skill changes so the release notes on the forums. I do think that weapon power level recharge is no longer effected by the EPS console but I could be wrong about that.
However I do know that prototype consoles were a hold over from the devs letting players keep their high powered sci console slots when the overall science nerf was put into effect. The prototypes don't have any different stats now then the standard same consoles but you can trade them into a shady ferrengeri hanging round SOL for a lot of Gold Pressed Latnum.
Yeah they are now used in crafting and stack together if you have any in your bank, they are used mostly for purple level items at high rank so unless you don't want to craft hold onto them. I think the crafting overhaul happed after you left so check that out too, now its actually useful and acquiring good items.
STFs are still group content but its another one of those things thats getting a revamp. There are threads in the tribble forums and if you want to more about the proposed ideas for look for posts by Cryptic Gozer.
