Smoke Free Space Dock!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I don't get it in a world that is going away from smoke free buildings and instalations, why is their so munch smoke in space dock I would rather see the ice blocks back than my screen cluttered up with firthy durity dust you can't see past. I think the smoke gernades are worse than the ice cubes that shatter and to make matters worse the new ice thing just makes more of a smokey cluttery mess of brown cloud of icky sticky dust that feels the room. At least the ice blocks where transparent they didn't seem to bother me as munch as the gaint smoke cloud I see in the bank and outside of it its so bad it fills the whole room!

Help let me have a smoke free Earth Space Dock again!

It just proves that if you take way something poeple think is annoying, they will just find something else to annoy people. I loved getting frozen by the ice cubes and than chasing them around with my toes can we at least have a option to hide the social weapons so though with poor graphics cards can deal with it without getting annoyed. I think that would be in everyones best interest.

I think the ice cube issue was more the fact it caused people real problems with staying in game, big lag issues. Whether they are going to end up stopping all ground abilities in esd and similar places is really up to cryptic. They are probably tired of hearing about it as they just addressed the last one, but you are well within your rights. Good luck on your petition.

I hope this doesn't gain any momentum. It's bad enough the bio-dampener was nerfed useless (I understand why people complained here. They just went the wrong way to fix the problem) but the smoke gun is completely harmless. If people like the op get their way ESD and places like it will become less fun.

I'm going to steer this thread in another direction and mention how my Covershield was taken away.

Which is completely irrellevant as the Covershield is not a social toy, nor was it ever intended to be used in social areas.
There is no cause, reason or justification to ever bring it back.

I'd go one further and say that if climbing/walljumping challenges are what people crave, it would be a lot more productive to ask for new ways of doing that without bringing back covershield, which caused a whole range of issues including misplaced NPCs.

If you liked using covershield to climb, maybe it would be more productive to ask for grav boots that give you some wall scaling capability, climbing rigs/harnesses, rocket boots like Spock's etc.

I like terrain exploration and liked that there was a community forming around that as a side game. Heck, I rolled a Caitian partly for that reason and begged for Invisible walls in Foundry beta because I wanted to make sure I could control how people did that on my maps, to avoid the possibility of broken missions (but also plan to see if I can't add rewarding extras for explorers).

Thing is, it's probably better when what you like gets taken away, if you spend your energy asking for new things that recreate the good side of that item or ability but show some willingness to acknowledge why it got changed.

I was one who was all for the BTD nerf and the smoke can get a little obnoxious when someone spams them for an hour straight, but I'm happy to settle for it as it is now just because I don't want to see everything taken away. As stated, if you take away the smoke, you might as well take away the party popper, the security escorts, etc. I'm just happy to see the BTD gone and will cut my losses (so to speak) at that.

I am not talking about the smoke grenades you can see past them. The reason why I want the bio Damperners to go back to the way they were is because you can throw a smoke grenade out and then bio dampner out, and you can't see past it, its just one huge cloud and the more they throughout the darker it gets. It's a bad combination really that was created when they fixed the bio Dampners. However, I think that problem is related to some ATI video card issue appearitly the card has been having a hard time processing it and that is why they get slowed down. The bio Dampners never slowed me down at all. I don't have a problem with social fun I have a problem with people ruining it. I did test on Earth Space Dock at the Anniversary, there is no proof that the original bio dampners created the lag others have said they did, the ones with the ice cubes.
This did not affect the network traffic at all and the only thing it affected was the Proccessor for about 10/10 of a second. Wow that is hardly anything! The high amount of people in this game is the only lag I got. I just think there are a lot of people in this game playing with integrated graphics cards on laptops wondering why graphics suck. I say intergrated graphic cards suck on Laptops once they die game over!. Most intergrated laptop graphic cards are ATI, and then they don't have room for T&L which is another reason they suck most graphic cards now days on desktop and tower computers that are separate from the motherboard have a separate processor for processing graphics taking the work off the CPU.

After they remove smoke and poppers, what are people going to complain about next? The tailor has so many people standing near it that you can't see where you are going? Let's remove it!

Too many ships outside space dock it's bumping you around? Lets have fewer ships!

How many of these social zone nerfs does it take before people are satisfied? Why not just remove social zones altogether then? Would you be happy with that?

The problem isnt these items. The problem is that they recently increased the maximum number of players per zone. So, when you have so many unique looking characters in a zone, throw in some graphical effects like the smoke and biodampner the result is severe lag for average performance computers.

I wish they would reduce the number back to what it was. Sometimes during peak hours, I can beam into ESD and the textures are reduced due to memory issues. I never had this occur before the maximum players per zone was increased. I am fine with the number per sector being increased but not in ground zones/social areas.

For me its a roleplay issue, all the TRIBBLE being thrown around takes me out of the game.

I never saw starfleet officers throwing smoke grenades or ice bombs that cause smoke on DS9. I can't help but believe that this kind of activity would not be tolerated on a starbase, least of all starbase 001. This is THE starbase.

"Hi new alien race we have just met, come to earth space dock so we can show you how the federation works. Oh the smoke, no visibility, thats just how we have fun around here."

    Its silly.

Well, I never saw Starfleet officers walking around with Targs, Sehlats, etc... I mean if you are going to take out all the immersion breaking things might as well add in a lot more that we never starfleet officers doing.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just take the people away? The tailor isn't bothering anyone, it's all those stupid players that cause the problems.

I saw archer wth porthos, and data with spot.

Having pets is a human thing.

Throwing smoke grenades cause you're a TRIBBLE is something else entirely.

see the smoke grades and bio dampners the ones in the social area are useless in combat. I think they should limit though social weapons to planet social areas where the area is so big no one is gonna give a care and instead of everyone logging into one place how about they have everyone log into their own ship if the zone is too full. Your own ship zone is never too full. They can do alot of stuff to help the flow. another good idea is have people take transports to different starbases instead of flying to them. If we get a mass transport system witha random klingon attack thing if the klingons happen to attack us while riding in the transport we can defend the transport anyways but than again poeple will complain about klingons attacking them is slowing down what they want to do. Space is not safe transports get attacked all the time I think that would be a fun mission, being able to hope into a transport to go to Starbase 39 sierra and maybe have you actually be on the transport as it takes you their next have a person their with a mission ican that can give you transport defend missions or something away team like mission where you have to stop the klingons from taking over the transport. This would be fun and the transport would be the easiest way to spread poeple around. Not starfleet captains need to take their ships to starbase all the time. If we could just run up to a ship and book passage on a federation transport to get to starbase it would be alot faster.

Well for starters smoke Gerndades do serve a combat purpose. And why do we need a transport system, when we have our own ships. Why should i get off my ship just to take a transport to a different Starbase, when i could take my Assault Cruiser

I am fine with having pets in ones quarters but like the examples you just mentioned, we never saw Data carrying spot around everywhere or Archer walking porthos around the ship. The pets should stay on the ship in the Captain's quarters. It just my opinion. I am all for having them but let's not put them in dense social areas like ESD or Quo'nos.

Actually, I would enjoy having a tailor on my own ship. The Enterprise did have its own replimat, and every Starship has replicators that are capable of making uniforms (even the tiny Defiant was able to make TOS-style uniforms in "Trials and Tribblations")

I think we should be able tol login where we log off. I think i twould be fun. If I log off in my quarters I shold be able to log in there. The thing is that its not a real place to go remember it said view bridge before they changed it to visit bridge they got to make it a place to go first and than it will be real I don't think that will happen til foundry comes out where we can custumize are own ships.
