.. kills the desire to play. The time spent warping in and warping right back out is just a waste. I wish there were more space oriented missions, not just combat, and the option to disable receiving ground COMBAT missions, I will do ground missions that involve no fighting.
The Approach Planet Missions, are often "we need a scan of..." and don't require fighting. Also, there are some missions where you might just be collecting evidence in an abandoned complex or solving a trade dispute. I think there are plenty of non-combat ground missions, but the non-combat space missions are few and far between.
The missions I avoid are the: "We need 10 Med Supplies". I never carry the supplies and I can't be bothered to go and buy them and return. Odd how I am too lazy to do the easiest missions.
Of course, I'm only a Commander 4, so I don't know what the later game play is like!
It would be really great if we could give orders to only respond to space objectives (or only ground if that's your thing). I too warp out any time it isn't space related.
I do the ground missions, but recently I am trying out a new ship and was hoping to score some space combat. No luck. 6+ missions in a row,,,all ground. 2 of 6 bugged with mobs stuck underground or my BO's underground and dead. I, too , was wondering what is up with all the ground missions now.

Ya Void, you're missing out on what is probably the best mission in the game IMO. Like harry said in his post, all you have do to is open your inventory, click on the replicator, and scroll down until you find the item needed and replicate how many you need. The planet will then give you an "offering" which you can right click on and hit use and get a random item.
As for ground missions.....I don't mind doing them since I carry 4 engineers on my away team all with phaser turret fabrication 1, 2, and 3........but I agree getting 6-8 in a row is crazy and it has happened to me the past couple days.

WHaaa...? Really? ha! thats pretty damn cool. Thank you guys for the info! And yeah, I'm a bit of a newb. Just resubbed after closed beta. I was also in CO and rather then deal with two developing games went with CO. Anyway, I find returning to this game as this point worked out very well, cause its heaps 'o fun!

Aid the planet mission are sought for two other reasons; they give 10 diplomatic XP per mission and you can drive to the planet and get the mission, gather the trace nodes for crafting and leave. Then you can return later and gather the traces again. Once you collect around a half dozen open missions or more, by the time you finish your last the first is ready for harvesting. In this way you can just sit in exploration space without node running, and gather from the missions. It's tedious but it's an efficient way to gather crafting materials if you like to 'do it yourself.'

Replicator!!
the reward for aid the planet is mostly worth the cost of the supplies
