Hey, I was wondering, I have read that phones can access the in game chat.

I read Cryptics instructions and tried it with several apps with no success.

Can anybody help me set one up, I'm using Android.:)

The App you use must have XMPP fuctionality. I too have tried this with a few XMPP enabled IM Apps but they all seem quite dodgy. The only one I got to actually wouldn't let me log in to Cryptic's Server.

Stormshade mentioned one Android app with XMPP functionality in his recent Priority One interview.

However, I'd just research which chat apps on Android have the best XMPP support and then secondary to that, the best itnerface/cost.

Beejive on iPhone is so far the only App that works for me for accessing ingame chat channels such as TTS. Though even there it's for one session only, so you have to leave and enter a channel again if you closed the app.

I was under the impression this was only for the Tribble server anyways?

If you're signed up for Tribble, you can use the XMPP chat to access channels in-game (like TTS channel, or private tells).

Scratch that fleet chat channel: my fleet created a third party channel for those not in the fleet to still listen in.

I've used Beejive and Jabiru to get things going. Beejive had a trial period and better interface then Jabiru though. Jabiru is free and I'm still using that.

It uses the xmpp chat protocol; you'll see all your friends list people, fleet people, and even those on Tribble.

The Jupiter Force fleet has a nice write up; maybe it will help. :)
