What do you guys think about a iPhone or android App for Star Trek Online, where you can :
- Check and sell items in your inventory
- Post items on the exchange
- Make alterations to your ship
- Manage your skill base and BOPs
- View and chat in The Ingame Chat
- View and edit your mission que
iPHONE & ANDROID APP:
This I think would be awesome for many of us who are always on the go. Allowing us to access our Star Trek Online account from a smartphone would bring a level of playing Star Trek Online. No longer would we have to spend hours working on our inventory, selling items on the exchanage, etc. in game which takes alot of time away from playing missions and PVP. What if we could do the above while on the bus to work or school, on lunch, at the DMV, etc. on your smartphone? I also think it would increase the player base in Star Trek Online. What do you think guys?

ANOTHER TOPIC:
Also in the future... what do you guys think about bringing Star Trek Online to The Smartphone /Tablet market. Onlive already has a app where you can view live games being played Onlive. They mentioned that 'soon' you will be able to play top titles such as 'NBA Live 2011, Just Cause 2, etc.' on your smartphone soon. Onlive I think is the future of gaming. Bringing console level games to the smartphone and tablet market is going to change everything and bring a new player base to MMO that become a part of it.
I've been working on a STO app in my spare time and have managed to get most of the exposed information working, ie

Most of the content that you are asking for would mean exposing aspects of the game that could be open to exploits such as the WOW Web Auction house facility which is known to be exploited by gold farmers (and we don't want them back now do we)
While Onlive is a good service, I think that playing STO on a mobile would be an exercise in futility without heavy modification to the UI and controls. The other problem is the lag using a 3rd party server would make the game unplayable (I've tryed playing STO at work by Remote Desktoping my home PC and "LAG" was an understatment)
With the development of the new generation of high powered SOC tablets and Microsoft's intergration of the next version of Windows for these devices, we could see tablets capable of running STO outright in the near future.
Yes and App would be great, but personaly I would much rather see the devs working on game content rather than an app to check the AH.
I won't lie, I'd love a good Star Trek Online app like you described. Though with possible exploiting issues as mentioned above, I don't think it would be worth it unless they could possibly prevent these problems. Of course, I know nothing about how apps work or the like. I just use them. Something like Saje is currently developing sounds great, though.
STO on mobile devices would be interesting, but it would take a lot of effort to get it to play effectively on a small screen such as that. I played it on my iPad once, and let's just say it was an interesting experience(though I could see a future in the device for this kind of gaming). I can't imagine playing it on anything as small as a smart phone, but I guess some people have patience.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Did you know there's a Champions Online app (iPhone)? For free, too. At one point you could check your friends list by logging in, I don't know if this is still true.
What's true is that , at the very least, a basic template exists for a potential STO iPhone app.

I'm just wondering how you played in on your iPad, did you use Logmein or a remote program like that? I'm thinking about getting an iPad and would love to play STO on it.

I used the splash top remote desktop viewer, though I am wondering if there's somethng better I could use.
For more info and how it went down, here's a Stranded in Space(before it was remastered) run. The description should answer some of the questions you may have.

(bear in mind the first few seconds of the video, which I forgot to edit out, my iPad was not responding to the touch commands for some reason. )
That's really awesome, I watched the Video and it looked like it did a pretty good job keeping up. A few lag issues but it was definatly playable. I currenlty use LogMeIn, and I tried opening STO from my iPhone 4. I couldn't even see the character selection screen, so I think I'll give this a try. Thanks for the info!
I hope one day... people that want things like this will get the help they need. It sounds like video game addiction to me when you want to check in on the game and your in game friends when your out and about.....
STO and other MMO's are good games... but its sad.... very sad if your constantly thinking about the game when your doing the inconvenient things in life that get in the way of your gaming.... like Working, food shopping or visiting friends and family.......
Everything in moderation... that includes gaming... so when your not at your computer you should have no access to STO.
I know many of you will dissagree but im actualy only thinking about the life your wasting.

no thats interesting. Will take a look at that. Apps are pretty easy to make nowadays. You can use just HTML code and have it converted via Phone Gap - http://www.phonegap.com/ and boom a iPhone App or android marketplace app.

not too shabby. allow me to throw disgruntled avians and i will pay you .99
Signed...... as a person who uses exchange and mail regularly, this would be amazing. Currently using mail from the site on an iPhone is not a good and easy experience. Throw in forums support btw too.

Your App project sounds fantastic, please tell me this is for the Android platform or that your planning on converting it too it once your finished.
How goes your progress btw?
I'd gladly pay a few £ for a decent STO app
I think using Phone Gap we can easily create a STO App for both iPhone and android. While on my lunch today was trying to find stuff to do... one thing I woulda spent time on is organizing my inventory, and selling on exchange.
We got alot of people behind this. Please add more support so Cryptic can see people want this as a feature.
I had thought of something along the lines of what you'd like. It would be a mini game app for each boff space skill. Where upon completing the mini task the app would send signal to desktop for the appropriate keybind (via bluetooth).
there's an app which emulates bridge officer station where you select the mini tasks for crf, hyt, apo, apd
when "captain" orders the tasks the "boff", sitting on couch next to him w/smart phone connected to desktop via blue tooth, performs the mini task crf and the hot key for "alt+1" is sent to the desktop.
In theory you could set up a "bridge" in your living room and order your friends around (while drinking Picard wine ).
I'd love a STO app for my android. It would be cool if we could do crafting on it as well. Also, any good LCARS app for the android (Galaxy S) would get a few buck from my old wallet lol.

I throwed this idea around a few times earlier when people discussed the possibility of multi crewing a single ship in STO. It is just a little modification of my app. Noone showed any interest at all.
My idea was to have 1 BIG monitor as main screen. 3 stations (1 eng, 1 tac and 1 sci) that would be mapped to command 1 power bar row with the matching skills.
The Eng would call the engineering powers and allocate the energy.
The Tac would fly the ship, control the weapons and call tac powers.
Finally, the Sci would do, well, the science stuff. He/she could be able to use the online combat log analyzer, to beef up his position.
Plus the captain with mouse control.
This, you can do already with my app. It doesn't sport minigames at the moment, but they can be added.
Who knows, a good crew may even be more efficient then a single player.
I love the idea of an STO app of some kind. Even if all it does is lets me check my in-game email to see whether I've sold things in the exchange etc. it would be nice. A few little app-based missions would be even better, maybe with some sort of reward to go with it?
The downside is that I can see people who don't have smartphones or don't have one that's compatible with the app being unhappy about being left out of it. Smartphone platform rivalry can get pretty nasty when people get heated about it. I have otherwise perfectly pleasant friends who will happily rant about all Apple products as though they were invented by Satan himself.

Same with tickets and mails
As for playing STO on a phone.. yeah no don't see that happening. I wouldn't wanna have to use a pencil to hit all my power keys
LOL agreed. Forget pencils, toothpicks are more like it.

assume alt+1 = cannon rapid fire, alt+2 hy torpedo, alt+3 apo, alt+4 apd

Love? Or do u demand free?
It isn't the money. Cryptic won't do it, or many things because they don't have the resources.
