I've liked almost every mission STO has thrown at me. Until Coliseum, the latest weekly. I spent an hour and a half getting more and more bored as I had to jump through stupid, time-consuming hoops. They didn't even make any sense sometimes. I have a fully-functioning Medic Kit but I still have to pick up stupid plants in order to make an analgesic for Slapfacek? An hour and a half in, I got stuck in the map at the downed ship. The /stuck command didn't work (as it rarely does), and so in a desperate attempt to get it over and done with I beamed up and back down again - and it put me right back at the beginning of the Marooned map, not even putting me back at the cave. I now face having to do all of that stupid horticulturalism over - and that's before I even think about whether to bother doing it with my other characters. This mission is a terrible, terrible piece of junk. Avoid like the plague.

Fair enough. I had my vent and you disagree. Thanks for your contribution.
OMG going somewhere = waste of time
OMG picking up something = waste of time
OMG talking to somebody = waste of time
OMG cryptic plx make next mission one room with boss - we kill boss, we get epix, mission done.
*sigh*
This mission is about the best I have seen in STO to date. Unlike some other STO mission, this one at least tries to realistically invoke the "marooned" feeling and I applaud that. If you want missions "I blow stuff and I get epix" - try WoW.
Your lack of formatting and spacing prevented me from reading your post. Maybe you had some good points, but I couldnt read past the first line without my head hurting.
all the 6 runs i have done of the mission went smoothly...felt like i was playing a story through.
Af riend did get the scan bug but thats easily fixed.
This mission has been the closest to like playing a star trek episdoe so far.
long ..yes
lots of puzzles...yes
awesome maps ..yes
nice loot..yes
storyline..yes
Would i like to go back to kill 10 of these missions?.......... no
Doing it over is super fast though. i've replayed it about 10 times now on a mix of my toons and after the first time and knowing what to do you can blow threw it in no time flat.
i enjoyed it a lot. there is a moment where i messed up the desert with the rock formation bit like many people have and caused me to waste a lot of time so perhaps they could clean that bit up but apart from that i loved it.
the flower/medical bit was perhaps a touch duller than it could have been but it was ok for what it was.
but the whole episode was a excellent change of pace and made the mission feel more like an episode of star trek that the usual gun everything down that moves. i hope to see more missions like this in the future that moves away from the normal episode format.

i must agree even though i dont get the grab herbs for medical purposes, i find it entertaining. missions are not made to BLAST away ur enemy and be done with the mission, u are to enjoy the story, the scenery, and the effects that make a game and movie worth doing. (sorry if i bore u with that talk lol) but theres my opinion i like it best ever made.:D
I'm in the middle with this. Yes it felt like a story from TNG (which is good) but some things annoyed me.
Like I got all the way to the cave you camp in without the 'Hide in the rocks and let the fighter pass' because I had no idea that meant hide in the tiny cluster of rocks off to the side that you couldnt hide an ant in There was no map icon or direction help at all with that, they just looked like random rocks on the map.
I thought the big archway was the rocks it meant
But after I walked all the way back and found them, the mission went smoothly.
The reason for the medical herbs is because your gear is supposed to have been confiscated when you were captured. So it wouldnt have made sense for them to allow you to heal yourself with your normal medical gear.
I myself had no problems technical or gameplay-wise with this fourth and latest mission of the series, infact I much enjoyed it.
The overall length of the mission, the puzzle that invoked some thought and brain matter-usage (though could be easily blown through by cycling the answers anyway for those who can't sit still for a few minutes), the new critters used in the arena, the new melee weapons gained through the mission, the ever-thematic "arena" track from TOS, the visuals on the whole, and much more helped make this feel like one of the best missions of any of the weekly series yet.
While there's always something one can improve on, I hope this trend continues in future missions and that the developers of this game continue to push new ideas for interesting aspects of what most other games would leave as "kill ten of these, bring back fifteen of these" type gameplay.
However, as it's obvious someone put a lot of time and effort in this mission, I think they deserve something more reasoned and constructive, as well as informative so they may be able to take ideas from such criticism and craft a better experience for you yourself and whoever else may feel similarly next time. Thread title alone is pretty hurtful =/
I really liked the mission. ESPECIALLY the original Arena track. I was fortunate enough to be standing in the rocks that were to be hidden in so finding them wasn't a problem for me.
I thought it was a great mission overall, I do have to wonder though,,
the poison status from the worms says "ravishing poison", granted I thought it was pretty neat but kinda far from ravishing.
Indeed, it is quite long.. so it's dreadful if you're the type who skips through all the dialogue and only sees the next objective circle on the map in order to be get loot and accolades.
Unlike most MMO missions/quests it's a mission you should play for the mission itself, not for some fancy reward when it's over with :P
Actually, there is. There is a circle on your map, its just small.
Not in this case, unfortunately. It is one thing that irritated me during my first run of the mission, and yes I did zoom all the way in on the map. There is no circle marker on the map for the right rocks to hide in. I have run the mission an additional 5 times since then in teams, and still no marker, so it's not something that I simply missed the first time through. Everything is marked well beyond that point, though.
I personally loved the episode. It was quite long, comparitavely speaking, but theres nothing wrong with that when it's enjoyable through and through. It felt very Trek, from beginning to end, and held some juicy tidbits of information for those looking hard enough. Also loved the fact that you more or less had to use your brain to solve the opening puzzle (although I suppose you can just do it by trial and error).
The reason for the medical herbs is because your gear is supposed to have been confiscated when you were captured. So it wouldnt have made sense for them to allow you to heal yourself with your normal medical gear.
I'm pretty sure it isn't confiscated but disabled because of the dampening field which you deactivate in the room with the gate.
Story wise it might have been better to say the Dampening Field is reaching as far as to the cave where you are sleeping but not to the other side where the ship crashed.
The reason for the medical herbs is because your gear is supposed to have been confiscated when you were captured. So it wouldnt have made sense for them to allow you to heal yourself with your normal medical gear.
I'm pretty sure they didn't confiscate your gear, they just disabled it with a dampening field which you later on shutdown. So I can see his point for his Sci/Med officer because I wondered the same thing. Made sense on my Tac/Eng officers though. Unless they confiscated the meds, in which case you had to use your tools and those plants to make more. Yea, yea...that could work.

you mean like the uncommon/rare/epic melee weapon you get towards the end of the arena? .
The reason for the medical herbs is because your gear is supposed to have been confiscated when you were captured. So it wouldnt have made sense for them to allow you to heal yourself with your normal medical gear.
You only had a dampening field that stopped you from using all your gear (It's the little blue debuff).
Nothing was actually confiscated.
It was a nice episode. I enjoyed the math part the best.
How could people not like that mission? I think it's Cryptic's best mission by a long shot! An interesting puzzle at the start, epic battles with just your malee weapon, escaping and having to survive the night (My fav part) and ending off with that awesome cut sene! What more could you want?

although i wouldnt have put in in such a troll inviting way...i agree with you op. and on a side note that "NOOOOOOO" at the end? really? Vader had a better one at the end of sith and thats not saying much

I did that to. Silly me, Reman told me we should head East and I immediately headed East and headed to those same rocks, then up and down the canyon twice before I backtracked and a friend told me where to go.
The reason for the medical herbs is because your gear is supposed to have been confiscated when you were captured. So it wouldnt have made sense for them to allow you to heal yourself with your normal medical gear.
I was able to use all of my kits once we escaped. I just assume you don't have the proper supplies to cure bites of what might be an indiginous worm thing.
Actually, there is. There is a circle on your map, its just small.
If there was, it was so small or blended in with the terrain features on the map that I didn't see it.
The only other issue I have that a friend brought up, It seems that the career accolades are switched up. Science is fine (find water), but why does the Engineer Captain hunt for food and the Tactial Captain gather wood?
Except for those minor items, It was indeed an awesome mission and possibly the finest to date. Another tip I was told, if you have ingame music muted, it is in your interest to play it for the Coliseum part.
I put forth that you should never, EVER have to do Math in a video game.
Not ever.
normally id agree because not everybody is a maths wiz or has a calculator to hand but luckily you can do the whole thing by trial and error. in fact thats probably a quicker way than the people who spent time working it out.

Maybe he'd prefer the epic "scan 5 plants" storyline

You don't have to do math. Nobody is forcing you to do math...you're the one that made the conscious decision to play the mission.
normally id agree because not everybody is a maths wiz or has a calculator to hand but luckily you can do the whole thing by trial and error. in fact thats probably a quicker way than the people who spent time working it out.
As I have noted with this and other math puzzles, there is no reward for getting it right and no penalty for failing your way through.
Also, in a group, you can have one member cycle through the numbers and wait for the numbers to turn green and tell them to stop.
