What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

Need compiled list of command lines for the EXE

I don't mean in game commands. I'm working with some people to solve some issues and I'm doing some testing that I assume the devs just haven't had time for. You can look that up in the video help section.

I need a list of commands that can be entered such as:
Star Trek Online.exe -command1 -safemode etc etc etc

Anyone from Cryptic mind supplying me with this? It will go a long way to helping solve the GTX shadow problems if I can use this for my troubleshooting process.

By the way... if I fix this... I want a job :P

Uh... guys? Someone from Cryptic has to look at these forums some time. I could really use the means of troubleshooting this stuff. But no tools to work with... no work.

Several days ago I asked Cryptic for help regarding command lines so that I could work toward fixing the GTX shadow problem (another one they wouldn't answer).

They moved my thread into the rarely visited tech support area and several days have passed without a reply. So I'm back here again.

or maybe they dont want to or cant give you the information you ask for under agreements and/or rules set forth within the company.

maybe try sending them an email and ask about how you can help.

or better yet....apply for a job there.

there are things called company policy...and although command line code, i am betting they are not allowed to share with people not employed by them...

    just a thought.... ;)

    Okay... well here's my argument:

They will not, can not or do not have time to fix some of these technical issues. I'm offering to work on this problem since they've failed to reply to an ongoing thread addressing issues with GTX cards and shadows. I would like to help but I don't have the means.

It's nothing against Cryptic... they appearently just don't have the staff or funding for anything other than automated tech support. That's okay. Just someone come along and give me the tools and I'll do it for free. I'm not new to software development or tech support on any level.

Please do not make duplicate threads, those are against the forums' rules.

The technical forums are for peer-to-peer support. If you feel you have a technical issues that must have Cryptics attention, please submit a tech-ticket via the support pages.

Please also understand that we will not share everything with our users; so it may be that what you request simply is not a service we can offer to you.

Please check the forum's rules when you next get the chance. Thanks muchly.

This sounds kind of suspicious. Maybe if you explained exactly why you wanted this they would be more likely to give you an answer you like.

Have you tried /slash commands inside the game? It looks like there's a few that handle shadows:

Since what you are asking for could potentially give you access to the source code within the EXE itself and this information and code is considered proprietary information and intellectual property I seriously doubt any company would be willing to give you access to it just because you ask.

I'm not asking for uncompiled source.... that's not how this stuff works. I was simply asking for command lines like you see in every other program out there to force 32/64 bit modes, force DX9, 10, 11 and things like that. You see it in everything from WoW to Call of Duty and it doesn't cause "source code" to leak out any cracks.

everyone gets an automated reply. the ticket still gets forwarded and looked at.
if your not willing to follow cryptics rules then i see no further reason for you to ask for the information.

Well, aren't you polite. This all started with me trying to help Cryptic because they've got huge glaring bugs that they appearently can't afford to fix... otherwise they would have after all this time. And I get replies like this? Hope they use some of your $300 bucks to hire some techs then.

lmao...they can use the money any way they see fit...means little to me since i got what i paid for.

funny you thing they cant afford it with little supporting evidence. making assumptions based on non-factual evidence and then making accusations against the company seems not to go towards your valiant effort in your crusade.

even wishstone offered a simple response as to why they are not (possibly) able to aid you in your quest, and yet you push that aside as if you know it all to be about money.

so...i shall continue to play the game i paid for and let the coding engineers work on the problem. if they use the money for pizza - so be it. they could maximize the amount of pizza to cost ratio if they get 2 for 1 specials...:D

Got what you payed for? Not yet you haven't. $299.99 is 20.01 months of payed time using the $14.99 per month option. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't this game just have it's 1 year anniversary? I won't insult your intelligence by telling you how many months there are in a year.

I'm not making accusations. I'm offering to help with tech issues that have been ignored since the game's release.

    Factual evidence?

Fact 1: The tech behind the game has not seen any noticable overhauls in the past year.

Fact 2: Bugs related to the graphics engine that were present a year ago remain today.

Fact 3: You cannot get Cryptic to reply to these concerns in any way, shape or form.

Fact 4: The only updates to the game have been content updates designed to maintain the player base.

Fact 5: I LIKE THIS COMPANY! I WANT TO HELP THEM SUCCEED IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE! Yes, I've even looked to see if they had investment options for stock share holders.

Assumption: They are too busy updating content (which I enjoy) to work on tech issues that don't keep people from playing the game. This makes sense, since it's not game breaking.

I heard Gul Dukat's condescending voice when I read this.

You're just being lured into getting your thread closed. Do this instead:
    1. Don't send a bug report - that gets an automated reply.
    2. Go to http://www.startrekonline.com/support, click on "Get Help" and select "Technical Issues" as the category.
    3. Tell support you're having major problems with shadows turned on.
    4. You should get a reply from a real person within 24-48 hours.
    5. Tell that person the troubleshooting steps you are trying to take. Ask for any command line options that might assist you.
    6. If you don't get the answer you need - ask for your ticket to be "escalated to the next level of support".
    7. If you still don't get the answers you need after escalation PM StormShade.
    8. If StormShade tells you he did some digging and it's proprietary information that they cannot give out then drop it, you did all you could possibly do.
    9. Go about your way, do not be angry, and do not follow the path of the Pah-wraiths. Good luck!

well arent you the enlightened one...

sorry bud, but your "facts" fall flat. unless you know 100% of what has been put into coding in any maintenance updates or scheduled updates then you are still "assuming" you know all.

and please understand, you are not capable of insulting me or my intelligence....you simply chose to apply a cost measure against a time frame, and that is fine. it is not as if i was unaware of my cost:time ratio and savings...;)

however, i can see your logic is fairly limited. alas, maybe this is why cryptic wont answer your request...

No it doesn't but I do know that a very persistent code monkey could potentially reverse engineer the EXE and get access to that code. I have been doing this for 25 years I understand how things work. Certain command line switches will give you access to certain libraries and tool sets that make up that code, that is why I said there would be very very few companies that will give you free access to any switches that would allow that.

Your request would raise a lot of red flags.

Please use the video options in game to adjust your video settings. We also suggest contacting your video card support for more help. If you are having a legitimate issue with your video settings, filing a ticket in the appropriate section does send a ticket to our video campatibility team. closing thread now.
