Cryptic, put two more FREE ships in Tier 1.

You guys are always talking about making the game better for n00bs. I think one nice way of doing this a bit would be...

1) When you get to the part where you first see your ship go to a ship customization screen first.

2) Make two more FREE ships and give players a choice. I think the Oberth should be free (maybe give a c-store alternative with an ability) and then an escort (perhaps a Maquis style raider, or anything).


Really, one ship being at tier 1 (or 0 to the devs) gets really boring. I've made a ton of characters. Each time it's that boring Miranda.

    I kind of agree with this. There are other starter ships, the Constitution and the NX-01, but you have to buy them from the c-store. It would be nice for noobs to get more of a choice. And I'd love to have the Ju'day Class.

    The Connie and NX are kind of out of this time and odd. Obvious C-Store choice. I would love to have a light science and light escort ship that are more modern, at least to the connie refit like the Oberth is (and the Oberth was still in wide use by DS9 and VOY).

    I have to agree with this. It seems like a bad idea to have people buy something right from the onset. It sets a bad tone for what their game play might be like.

    agreed with this. if anything, that early grind would be made more entertaining by having a decent selection to choose from.

    I agree, it would be great to have the Kelvin, but apparently they are having licensing issues with things from the new movie. I still think the Ju'day class would be awesome as a tactical starter.

    surprisingly - geko and I were talking about this very thing today. I'd like to see more variety at all tiers and if I can get the ship art time out of CapnLogan - i'd like to see both the KDF and FEDs have more choices as they level up.

    One idea we were talking about (brainstorming) was that if we did add some new ships at lower tiers, that we could put their unique powers on a console so that even after you leveled out of the ship, you could at least take the console with you and possibly use the ability on another similar ship. Sounded like a cool idea.

    What i personally would like to see is some race-specific ships in the lower tiers for KDF players. I would say it's much more important than new FED ships. While playing 3 chars to vice admiral on the FED side i never had any problem with the available ships .. they feel allright ( and yes i would love to see a Ferengi starship indeed as a T5 ship *begging* ), because any captain belongs to starfleet.

    I don't feel the same way for the KDF. The races there seem to be more of a loose alliance. I leveled up a Nausicaan character there and he got his Guramba Siege Destroyer. But that there are no race specific ships in the lower tiers prevents me from playing my Orion character. Because i don't want to command him a typical Klingon vessel.

    i would love to see the nausican ship that was in the 'enterprise' series available from rank 2-5, doable with a few model tweaks and making it bigger models as you go up the ranks, make it primerily a sci ship passive buff but an some kind of hidden buff where if a sci captain is piloting it then it gets target subsystem abilities at the cost of something like crew number.

    Are you planing to fly it till you hit cap?

    My self I am uber l33t n00b and I did not fly the tier 1 ship for more than 2 days..

    Lots of pew pew gets you a tier 2 ship realy fast

    sounds like a cool idea. its similar to the idea i was suggesting for the oberth power suggestion forums.

    You already have a full suite of KDF ships available in the form of Gorn, Orion etc... vessels. :)

    It can never hurt to improve the pre-end game. In fact it can only help. The first tier needs the most help. Also the endless kill X/X missions but that's another issue.

    I think this is a good idae, and not necessarily just in connection with an early ship. Coming up with a suite of 'special power'/quasi-refit consoles in general would be a good idea and help the ships that aren't the endgame gimmick ships feel less bland by comparison.

    Here's an idea we could do away with the whole tier system entirely and have full diversity at all levels instead of forced choices. food for thought. would require a lot of work.

    I, for one, welcome more ships in all tiers, even the starter tier. For Klingons (and Romulans) too! Interested to see what you guys do with this, if you have the resources ... and interested in the console idea.

    Definitely a cool idea. Throw in the NX Grapple ability and it'll be glacial!

    Adding unique abilities to Consoles will turn the slots from stat boosters into something a lot more interesting.

    I can make a quick suggestion for the KDF. Just add the Orion, Nausican, and especially GORN ships to the lower tiers. There are basic models already created, now they just need to be updated for player use.

    Man. unique powers attached to consoles is a great idea. I just realized the other day that I had a tractor beam with my Borg console. It would really add to the fun trade offs that one has to make when customizing their ship.

    Ideas for console based powers:
    Timed emergency cloak: Hit it but you only get 10 seconds to make your get away.

    Boarding raid: A small raiding party beams aboard the enemy ship and does stuff. Requires a dropped shield facing. We saw tons of these raids in ST. Maybe limit it to non-Fed races since most Feds aren't going to take a one way trip.

    System surge: Random BO goes offline for a few seconds at their console overloads and they go flying. Randomness forces captains to adjust tactics on the fly as their perfect power combos sometimes ger interfered with.

    Just ideas on the fly.

    Not as much work as you might think. The tech already exists for the shuttles, so they have a start already.


    But yes, I agree that the tier system should be reconsidered and/or eliminated entirely (see the link in my sig for one idea on how to do it).

    There's also currently no way to get the Miranda back if you delete it, right?

    Personally, I'd like to see the bottom two tiers merged. It provides more benefit/fun to the C-Store NX and Connie if you keep them through Level 20.

    I know refits are on the plate anyway but I kinda like how RA and VA share ships for the most part and would suggest retuning the ship tiers to last longer.

    Merge T0 and T1, T2 and T3. Still get a ship token every 10 levels but then it gives people more incentive to use their ship token to try out a different ship type.

    Meanwhile, it allows people to hold onto ships longer, which feels "more Trek".
