we were discussing powers that the Oberth should come with.
One suggestion thrown out was a second "abandon ship" power, in case the first one wasn't enough.
just kidding - we wouldn't do that... but it was funny
Well, it was designed to be a mostly-automated science ship... how about a variation on tactical team that automatically reroutes shield power where needed?

BTW, I'd be super happy if you release a pic of the Ambassador, Vesta, Andorian ship, or either the Fed or KDF fighter soon. That is of course if any of them are as near to being done as the oberth.
lol, I would imagine that the Oberth won't be up to doing too much, since I'm pretty sure it'll be a T1 or T2 ship!
Though something to make it "unique"? I dunno what that would be for now, BUT when the Duty Officer System goes live, I could totally see it as having expanded research facilities.

How about a non-combat ability that suits the Oberth's role as a science/scout vessel?
My best idea would be something like this:
Long-Range Sensors Boosts the ships's scanning range threefold (or something along those lines), enabling it to collect data and interact with other objects in space over a much greater distance.
In other words, it mean you'd be able to collect anomaly samples or hail other ships from, say, 21km instead of the usual 7km (or similarly-factored increases, depending on the object in question).
It'd give the Oberth a characterful twist, as well as a totally unique ability that sets it apart from the other Tier 1 ships, but without that ability being something you'd miss having on a higher-level ship.

being that it was a multipurpose vessel, something involving cargo usage, support, or repairing could be helpful. maybe a "support craft" slot that allows appropriate multipurpose usage, representing the adaptive qualities of the craft.
maybe
support repair beam array-science
space = initiates a repair beam on friendly vessels
ground = ??
support shuttle bays - option open for ground and space (launches support shuttlecraft as diversion tactics)-tactical
space = launches shuttle group that targets subsystems of enemy
ground = a shuttle swoops in on open area maps and bombards target with phaser fire
support cargo bays - adds a (drops random supplies in inventory - timed)
ground= beams crates to away team location granting access to random supply item that could be helpful. i.e. hypos, shield emitter booster, etc. once opened, it drops the item into any available device slot.
space= drops random engine, shield, aux booster into available ship device slot

A second abandon ship power? That's a joke right? I mean who actually uses abandon ship?
The Oberth is a Science Ship, perhaps somethinhg like a Focused Graviton Burst, where it can do an AoE Snare. (Technically would disrupt Warp Speed, but since we don't just have that in game it would be a decent equalizer to the B'Rel BoPs that are default equipped with Uncommon Gear).
Well, it was designed to be a mostly-automated science ship... how about a variation on tactical team that automatically reroutes shield power where needed?
A good idea. And in my opinion, an Oberth class would suit nicely as an additional ship selection for Science in addition to the current "Olympic" style (and variants). I've heard many comments, in that they dislike the Olympic design. A variant such as an Oberth would go nicely for low level science ship (please no C-Store, and no Tier 5 Refit).
Also, still waiting for the Tier 3/4 Ambassador Class, as a variant on the Galaxy or Excelsior class.
for the oberth, i suggest a bop like turn rate and health. for weapons i think it should come with a single canon, photon torpedo and aft turret. its special trick should be the phase cloak, normal cloak but just turn off object clipping. if you deactivate it in an object, just destroy the ship. extra sci console
*edit- oh and at first i didn't think i needed to say it, but maybe i do. this oberth i'm describing is a tier 1 ship, that's really the only place that thing belongs.
for the ambassador, maybe make it a science counterpart to the excelsior. give it a sci ltcom station. but there is already the nebula thats sort of in that position, and if that versa ship is coming out it should get this set up.
what i'd REALLY like you guys to do is make it a counterpart to the nebula, the cruiser that ended up being sci. make the ambassador a cruiser that ended up being an escort. if you did that you could give it a tier 3 and tier 5 ships, seeing as there isnt a set up like that for escort yet. stations should be something like this
com tac
ltcom eng
lt tac (or universal like the neb)
ltsci
ens tac
though it would officially be an escort, dual cannons should be restricted, in return it should have 8 weapon slots. give it stats similar to a saucer separated galaxy, or klingon raptor. like 34000 health and the low for an escort turn rate of 15 or 14.
if you think it needs a special ability too, maybe something like a hold together skill- for 30 seconds the ship wont explode until it has -20% hit points. 3 min cool down.
why would an ambassador be a escort? well at this point in time its an old cruiser looking at its final refit before its retired for good. with the current political climate, starfleet would probably decide to turn this obsolete work horse into a battle ax. load as much advanced weapon systems as possible into its sturdy hull and send it back out on the front lines.
Power of the Redshirts: Upon activating this ability the Oberth gains a +400 boost to manuvering and speed, also a extended scanning capablity. However the draw back is the shields and weapons take a -99% drain and go offline.
Note: The SCE is in the process of finding what's wrong and hope to have it fixed soon.
Yeah, I have always wondered why so many people talked about wanting this ship. I can't recall it ever surviving thru an episode and, umm... STIII? That Oberth class died quicker than Christopher Lloyd's space dog. The pooch at least had a few seconds to linger while dying on screen. Grissom just fireballed.
And is it just me or did anyone else think it was a little tacky naming the exploding-fireball death ship after an astronaut who actually died in a fire? Just saying maybe naming the thing the Aldrin would have been the classier route.
passive power: *blank stare if enemy aproaches*
+50% faster cooldowns if you have time to fire you might just be able to fire another time.
on the 3 abilities you have in the starter ship.
a transphasic cloak would still be illegal, dangerous and most of all people would want to have it at Endgame then.
Oh... and if you explode while decloaking inside an object -> cloak and fly into another player -> delcoak BOOM, he won't know what hit him.
and i agree, this one should be a free one, we allready had the TOS Constitution and the NX 01 as starter ships, there is only a minority who would actually want to buy the Oberth Class over one of those 2.
how about we make a new tutorial before the tutorial and make a -1 (minus one) tier so that the Miranda class will be an upgrade to the Oberth?
I still think giving it the ability to mount (and potentially buff) shuttle 360 arc phasers would be useful to it. I kinda also think another BO science slot would be useful to it (a LT science or pair of ensign science), and that would allow people to use it at tier 1, kinda a 0.5 tier ship.

Huh. Never thought about it that way. *is now vaguely discomforted*
Suggesting Oberth have a cannon weapon is like... well, compare it to something stupid.
The Oberth is a science ship. A weak one at that. It should have at most 3 weapons with 2 forward and 1 aft but it should possibly have only two. As for it's ability... I think we're not thinking outside of the box here. I think ALL OTHER SHIPS should get an ability called "Destroy Oberth" and once used it destroys Oberths in one hit. It only works on Oberths.

Well, from what I've seen the Oberth class does a fantastic job of exploding.
You just made my day, think you.:D

Naw, but in all seriousness, howabout something like sensor scan/fire on my mark?
"A lucky shot, sir"
"Animal"
Though something to make it "unique"? I dunno what that would be for now, BUT when the Duty Officer System goes live, I could totally see it as having expanded research facilities.

Much as I like the Oberth's design... that did make me lol ><; Nice.
Yeah i can just imagine someone new to the game...
"man, why do they have to give me a crappy oberth class!!"
I rather like it. It's quaint, a nice fit for the beginner tier, and to top it all off, it's a canon ship. T0 Light Science is a perfect place for it.
A second abandon ship power? That's a joke right? I mean who actually uses abandon ship?

So I'm guessing a passive AOE that allows all team-mates to 50% increase in critical hit chance on enemies within 5 KM of the Oberth.
It's weapons and shields would be weak but it would basically make it not only a must have ship but a must destroy ship as well.

How about auto-surrender?
'Oberth' is Andorian for 'Pinto'.

Huh. Never thought about it that way. *is now vaguely discomforted*
95% chance your crew will mutiny againts you
*Scan the Anomoly*
While scanning an Anomoly.. there is a 99% chance the crew will be killed off
Transwarp to Delta Vega.. something
70% your ship explodes while trying to transwarp to the delta w/e nebula
*Freeze*
50% your crew will find your stock of cyro grenades... thus redesigning the interior of your ship.
