Suggestion for the New Gorn look based off TOS gorn!

I really love the new Gorn look a lot in some ways, and I especially love the effort being put into improving them. :)

However I really think the head is lacking what makes the original Gorn iconic. It seems less space lizard and more like the newer Godzilla. The main thing is the eye area and the ridges on the top that make the Gorn's head look the way it is instead of just a space crocodile.

I've gotten several images of the Gorn and I've shown what I'm talking about in red, green, and purple circles and text.

Picture 1:
From the comic "Alien Spotlight 1: Gorn"

Gorn Warrior

Picture 2:
From a mask based off of the original mask.

Picture 3:
The original Gorn Mask used in TOS:

Picture 4
The Gorn's head from Enterprise:

Now for the Gorn design in the works now!

I think that so far that whoever is designing them is or are doing great. But these are some things I noticed that I think could be tweaked based off of the above pictures.

STO Gorn revamp

The Gorn are my favorite Star Trek species, besides the Andorians, and the only one I play with on the Klingon side. I know we will have the option of using the older model, but even that lacks some of what I suggested that the Gorn usually have. I hope that if any Devs, Stormshade perhaps or Dstahl;) could pass this on to the designer, I would greatly appreciate this. I 'm sure it's already in capable hands but I am worried it may become less Gorn and more Godzilla.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the new head was the US Godzilla as well.

Which is partly why I think my points should be addressed since it's a little too much US godzilla.

I am not much of a Trek purist, but I find your evidence compelling.

I'll be happy as long as we never ever see this version of the Gorn in STO.

As for the new look that's in the works, I think if they could drop the snout/mouth down the face (as opposed to being at roughly the same level as the eyes) to bring it more in line with the TOS Gorn, then it would look a lot less like US Godzilla.

That looks like a cross between a Predator and a Triceratops. The horror!

That could work for Gorn Augments.

    POSSIBLE SPOILERS

(in case there's still anyone left who hasn't done this particular quest chain.)

I was always a bit bothered that the augmented Gorn you face off with in the Pi Canis series of quests used the same models as regular Gorn enemies. They're supposed to be heavily modified, super-gene warriors! I mean, at least when you face off with the Klingon augments, they are quite clearly the goofy looking, ridgeless TOS-era Klingons.
That monster up there, I think, would be a great representation of the monstrous Gorn augments.

Agreed. That is not a Gorn. Period.

I like the new version of the Gorn that is being released. I plan on rolling a new Gorn captain when its released just because of the revamp. :D

If they have the option of a more TOS Gorn then that would be great, more options for people to play with is always a plus. However I don't want to see them modify the new version into a TOS Gorn head.

I could never take the TOS Gorn seriously, it looks like a guy in a cheap rubber suit. Im aware that it is a guy in a cheap rubber suit but it really looks like something I would see in a hannabarbra cartoon, and is just one of those things from TOS that always makes me laugh from pure ridiculous cheesiness.

The version that we have WIP shots of looks truly alien and aggressive, and in my opinion much more interesting then the original. I would really not like to see it morphed into some of the pictures you provided.

Arena is a cult episode, but let's be honest, the gorn looked the way it looked for lack of something better, so I really love how cryptic has improved the looks of them, do not feel the need to have it look more like TOS

I did not want to play a Gorn because I thought it look too toonish but I started one once I saw the new models. They are by far the coolest most "realistic" looking things to be added to the game. Now if only the other races will get a similar treatment. I really dont like the WoW or Sims style graphics to be frank.

I really love the Gorn Revamp

But lets be honest here, the Gorn made like two appearances in all of Star Trek.
In ToS it was a low-budget cheezy costume, in the ENT Mirror Universe episode it was a quick CGI for one use.

A quick CGI shot that was also low-budget and cheesy. :D

I'd wager there have been better effects on Xena: Warrior Princess...

Personally I'm happy with the current STO Gorn model, and I'm glad Cryptic is still keeping it around. The new one looks too barbaric, in my opinion. All I really want as far as Gorn customization goes is for them to be as large as the Hadch (I think that's what they're called) NPCs (even at the tallest, we're still about a head shorter than them) and a shirtless "uniform" option.

OP, the new Gorn skin was shown to us about a month or so ago....it's beyond epic by the way too.

I mean no matter what, it's going to be epic, and I'm not against the new one. In fact I like the new one a lot.

However, I would hope to see that certain features from TOS gorn be added to the whole pool of customizable options. I just hope that the old gorn options and the new one are compatible and are able to be kind've combined in the customization options.

Yah but Abrams had infinite budget and look how he made it! It's baaaaad. It seems no matter the budget, Gorn should look Cheezy/bad. So MAYBE, cryptic making them look awesome and not cheezy, they are making the Gorn not the Gorn!:p

i actually prefer the shorter snout, the longer ones seemed to unbalance the body to much for me and I found the current model a little hard to watch walking about.

The TOS Gorn are the element of the show that for me aged the most, I just don't think you canget a lizard biped to look convincing based on a man in a suit. Not that the Enterprise one looks any better. Extreme makeover worked for the Klingons in the 80's, it's time the Gorn got some love and I much prefer the new model as it stands.

Less said about the JJ Gorn the better.

I'd like to see costume changes. I hope we can eventually wear the outfits the npcs do. The nausicaans have them why can't the Gorn?

I really like your reference shots. The Gorn could definitely stand to look a bit more like that, especially with the big eye ridges...

I think the gorn need a number of sliders in the customization to allow for more options.

Instead of eyebrows have a slider for more or less pronunciation. With the head spikes give the option of none or some if some then give a slide for more or less.

Body scales give us a slider from really rough to baby smooth scales. On the mouth a slider for more or less grille display or mouth options like stances such as snarl, grin, or gaping.

And the feet! First how do I get into those skinny jeans over those feet. Or squeeze them into those boots? So pant options need a change. I like the feet option so don't lose it but if we are offered the ability to alter color then let it change it at least as a secondary color. Make boots bigger to fit the big feet.

I this will help a lot.

Yeah, my Gorn is in a fleet that has a uniform, and I had to remove the boots due to the fact that they don't match up with the Gorn feet.

One other thing they need to fix is the gorn hands! They look to small and whimpy. They need to be either 4 fingers and bulky with claws/nails added, with a glove added that allows the fingers show.

The whole quote and all you want to hit on is the boots?! Well no they don't need boots but neither do dogs but how many have you seen wearing them? Maybe some gorn prefer to wear them idk what I do know is it's an option for gorn but to me they seem like they would be really tight.
