There are many folks, I would expect, that like the look of that ship they had earlier in their gameplay. I have a few favorites myself, but cant use them because they are far inferior to what I could use now.
I realize you are offering refits, and thats great, but it seems like more work than is necessary. Instead, I would suggest you use a system much like your holographic system you have from Dabo rewards...
Holographic projections of your prior ships.
There are two ways this could be done.
1) offer it as a radial choice from the ship info screen, changing appearance to one of your prior ships
2) offer it as a holographic device you have to equip into your current ship
NOTE: if ship appearance is an issue, add in a toggle players can use to shut the system off, so they will always see everyones true vessel.
I would like to see the radial choice personally, like an off duty uniform for your ship.

Thanks for your time.
personally all I want is a retrofit constitution refit like the enterprise-A. The idea of the holo thingy is ok and a shallow substitute I guess, dont think i would be happy with that stupid holographic flicker though, which is why I would go with a refit before a hologram.

Yes, the holographic flicker wouldnt work of course. I actually mainly meant it as a way to upgrade your favorite ship...by simply getting a new ship but keeping the appearance of the original.
Note: in my suggestion the prior ship setup would be treated like a costume, and it would either be set in stone as it was when you made it a costume...or perhaps Cryptic could allow the costume to be edited using the ship designer.
I personally think leaving the ship as it was when you saved it as a costume would be good enough.
I thought of something else...the ship costumes could even be temporary, and you have to recharge them perhaps.
You could even purchase holographics in the Cstore....each hologram would save one ship appearance that you could apply to your current ship as a "costume" of sorts, like an off duty uniform, and you could purchase and save multiple holograms so you could have any look you want.
And I would prefer that the interference be kept to a minimum....yes, a little interference to show its a hologram if need be, but it will detract from the overall system I think.
All in all it would be one simple solution to the problem of not being able to have the appearance of your favorite ship. This would be a win for me at least.

Where's the blown-off nacelle? Where's the chunk of saucer missing?

I would have loved to have seen the damage system that KA had...now THAT was a very dynamic and innovative damage system for starships.
