Deep Space Nine needs a makeover next! So much missing/wrong...

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Deep Space Nine is fabulous, but it needs a makeover because it is missing several important things:

*If at all possible, Quark's really should not be its own instance.

*Holosuites added to the top floor.

*Hologram of Morn, or Morn himself if his species is long lived, added to Quark's. Should be able to buy him a drink.

*Sitable stools added to Quark's.

*Darts mini-game added. Play with your friends, gain skill at the game the more you play, etc.

*Infirmary is missing! Doctor Bashir did not practice medicine by the Exchange! Give us Bashir's Infirmary.

*Tailor really should be Cardassian instead of Vulcan.

*Security Office is missing. Place Odo's bucket subtly in a corner as a tribute to the constable. Perhaps the new security chief (who should be in the bajoran militia uniform) can offer us officer training or something relating to ship's crews.

*OPS needs to allow us to walk into Sisko's old office. Put his baseball on the desk as a tribute to him.

*Runabouts, which are sold only at DS9, need to be given some kind of real in-game function. I hear the shuttle system is going to be cool. Are runabouts better than a standard shuttle? They should be.

Any other suggestions?

EDIT: added my one last thought "Instead of beaming onto the Promenade, we see a cut scene of the DS9 "pizza-slicer" doors opening, our Captain walking out all epic like, and then we are standing on the Promenade."

EDIT2: Morbius1's excellent ideas:

Like the OP said, open up the entrance to Quarks. PLEASE TAKE OUT THE STUPID RAMP. One way to save polygon load (so you can merge it to the rest of the promenade) is to add turbolifts like you had in Club 47 instead of that monstrous ramp. It might not be totally accurate, but it's better than that ramp.

The operations really needs the office there and it's missing the beam near where Miles would stand. You can see it here on the right hand side: http://www.ditl.org/internals/GDS9Ops1.jpg
Here's another shot of it: http://drexfiles.files.wordpress.com...untitled-1.jpg

Also the lighting there should be warmer or darker. There's a lot of great shots here actually: http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2010/...ations-center/

Also the outside of DS9 needs to be much darker, just like you have going for the new ESD now.

I dont think its a high priority...however after ESD is overhauled DS9 should be next and these improvements would go a long way to making visits to DS9 a throughly enjoyablle event

Yes. I agree wholeheartedly 100%. DS9 needs a makeover after ESD is finished. I always felt the current DS9 has a cartoony feel to it.

I agree this should go into the Todo list for any devs working on overhauling/re-mastering.

Don't get me wrong, DS9 is lovely as is, but it could also be improved from 'cool' to 'EXCELLENT *guitar riff*'

i would love to see ds9 added to (outer rings and pylons) and what we have improved. like sisko's office and the infirmary.

i think ds9 is going to be the hub of many a foundry episode and an upgrade would be very important to help tell those stories and make them more effective.

i could also see ds9 playing a big part in any weekly series centred around cardassian space.

Great ideas! I too would love to see DS9 get some attention. The devs responsible did an excellent job so far with the ESD updates and hopefully they can spend some time polishing up DS9 too.

I'd like to see a lot more civilian population on the promenade. It was almost always packed and I think it would bring a lot of life to what DS9 feels like. Though I concede that just from a technical standpoint of having too many people might be difficult for some players' computers. Maybe if they added only a couple dozen random people walking about it'll help -- to make it feel as busy as ESD at least.

(who should be in the bajoran militia uniform)

No, Bajor joined the federation, the Militia was absorbed into Starfleet.

Unless DS9 has been turned into a Civilian station (which it hasn't), then I could see them wearing a similar uniform.

Not a priority for me, but I agree at some point these changes would be nice.

Too small? I'd have to disagree, the Width is right, but it is TOO TALL! look at the Promenade windows, they're freaking huge, they should be little bigger then an average person

*If at all possible, Quark's really should not be its own instance.

Would be nice but im happy with the current set up.

*Holosuites added to the top floor.

    ^^ This

*Hologram of Morn, or Morn himself if his species is long lived, added to Quark's. Should be able to buy him a drink.

    meh

    *Sitable stools added to Quark's.

    This :D

*Darts mini-game added. Play with your friends, gain skill at the game the more you play, etc.

throw it at the tree behind the bar :D

*Infirmary is missing! Doctor Bashir did not practice medicine by the Exchange! Give us Bashir's Infirmary.

    Medic!!!!

*Tailor really should be Cardassian instead of Vulcan.

I think Garak should go into "retirement" and return to the tailoring buisness.... The return of Garaks shop :D

*Security Office is missing. Place Odo's bucket subtly in a corner as a tribute to the constable. Perhaps the new security chief (who should be in the bajoran militia uniform) can offer us officer training or something relating to ship's crews.

Dont see many Bajorans on DS9 these days... definatly need an increase of Bajorans on the station.

*OPS needs to allow us to walk into Sisko's old office. Put his baseball on the desk as a tribute to him.

And a New Station Commander... The current guy just.. fails... Undine Invasion, Terran Invasion, Cardassian Invasion.. He would of lost all of them If it had not of been for our help.

*Runabouts, which are sold only at DS9, need to be given some kind of real in-game function. I hear the shuttle system is going to be cool. Are runabouts better than a standard shuttle? They should be.

    Any other suggestions?

    * More Bajoran Npcs
    * New Station Commander
    * Couple of Runabouts/shuttles flying outside.
    * A freighter or Fed ship docked at one of the pylons
    * Habitat Ring - Crew quarters (For the Rpers)
    * Runabout landing pad (Interior) (So we can see the Federation shuttle models (Type 8,Runabout,Captains yacht & the Delta Flyer)
    * USS Defiant docked or sitting near the station.

The next federation overhaul sure, but I think Qonos needs the next overhaul. Surely you Feds can sympathize with that. I know it is being worked on, and that should be the next overhaul, and if it isn't I shall be VERY 'disappointed' in Cryptic...

I'm pretty sure the homeworld is getting the next overhaul. it was mentioned in one of the ESD feedback threads.

Ideally, first Q'onos, and then with a new Weekly set in Beta Ursae and the surrounding Sector Blocks, Deep Space Nine gets a full revamp and accesible to all factions.

It should be - even if under Starfleet control - a neutral hub. It just feels "right" that way. I am sure that's what The Sisko wanted.

I agree 100% and would like to add. There are plenty of areas to more the ship yard, bank, mail, exchange areas instead of the odd add-ons to the station. These are non-cannon and are just odd. PLEASE make use of the 2nd level on DS9. there's alot of space up there that would be better put to use for those places. - OOP

That is a good idea, though I must disagree and say sisko would NOT want that. He was a bigot and a racist toward Klingons. But It feel more like the show, i support that.

I agree, I really hope for a DS9 Renovation next. Especially the outside, it just doesn't feel right.

Aside from the suggestions above, I would like to see

Exterior Renovation. Right now it doesn't seem right with the texturing and the windows.

More of the interior, which could perhaps someday turn into player housing?

Promenade needs more kiosks to feel like it supposed to be an alien bazzar. I mean where is the Klingon Restaurant and the Assay Office?

Quark's should have seats you can sit in, like the captain's chair.

There should be a BOFF Vendor and Trainer.
This is because I prefer DS9 to Sol Spacedock and am getting annoyed with having to go to another Starbase I don't like in order to change the skills of my BOFFs.

In general, Deep Space Nine should be upgraded to have all the features that Sol Spacedock provides, gear vendors and so on.

Sisko's office would be nice, I tried to get in there the first time I arrived and was disappointed to discover I couldn't.

    Where is Odo?
    Shouldn't he still be there?

Been forever since I have watched much DS9, but he wouldn't let Kurn do his honorable death ceremony, then basically kills Kurn to get him to stop whining. Erasing his memory is essentially giving him an unhonorable death. The one known as Kurn is dead, with no honor in his death. And he would let other cultures do other things, so it seems to show his bias is against JUST Klingons.

There were a few instances of things like that, he seemed at times as though he had no respect for other cultures. But he did flip flop back and forth a little.

    How about this?

Instead of beaming onto the Promenade, we see a cut scene of the DS9 "pizza-slicer" doors opening, our Captain walking out all epic like, and then we are standing on the Promenade.

Either that, or we should be beaming into OPS on the transporter pad. :D

This subject pops up a lot, but I don't mind as I agree DS9 needs work. Should be the next project after ESD and Qo'Nos.

I like that idea, or we could spawn in at the doors in the shipyard (like we do in the Fleet Action). I would like the option to return to my ship that way as well.

Like the 10,000 Klingon Starfleet officers...they're on our side I guess.

Don't get me started on just how many Klingons, Ferenghi, and Freed Borg now apparently serve in Starfleet.

Although Worf apparently is on the other side. :(
