With the New year now in full swing. I figure it's time to start a wish list for STO. So what would you like to see added this year?

    1. New Factions

Sure. More options are always nice.
    2. Deeper Stories

This ... this isn't a thing. Let alone something that can be asked for. There are entertaining stories, not so entertaining stories and boring stories. Labeling a story as such is an intensely personal thing that is almost impossible to intentionally design for. Unless you've a doctorate in applied psychology.
    3. Content for Fleets

Certainly. Fleet-exclusive activities would give a greater reason to be in one than the (currently only) social experience.
    4. Fleet housing

No, thank you. Please don't do this.
    5. Working Class

Inadequately defined topic. Probably not though. I ... I don't like the sound of the phrasing.
    6. Mega Boss type

The playerbase can barely handle the STFs now. Giving us something more difficult is foolish.
    7. True Exploring

Inadequately defined term. It sounds interesting, but I can just see it being a migraine for everyone involved, assuming a reasonable implementation.
    8. OTHER

    No idea. Define 'other'.
IMO STO has come a long way from day one, and it can only get better, but it does need more content, and the other factions. I hope these two items get in before the fall of this year. lol One can only hope.

I'm pretty sure some of these things are easy enough to make, and some R&D points could be gained from making the more complex items using shipboard replicators.

? But you can replicate the full bandwidth of goods in your ships replicator.

Actually, more uses for R&D in general. I'm getting an image in my head of using R&D and a captain's discipline tree to modify ship systems and items, but I can't really see how this would work without becoming the rumored retrofit update.

Also, I'm onboard with the guy who said that batteries should be part of the ship instead of a wasted device slot. Why aren't batteries an inherent ship power with a two minute global cooldown?

You can actually use the ship replicator to purchase these during the Aid The Planet missions, now. That changed a little while back.

I'd like to be able to head down to Risa, do a little wind surfing, maybe hit on a hot female guest who's staying at the same resort as me. Also check out some of the fine restaurants in the area, followed by some scuba diving the next morning. Get started Cryptic! ;)

Err, could have sworn i already replied here but, sure, added to sto in 2011.

    MOAR weekly episodes!

Random invasions of [insert uber hostile race here] in a certain sector, which should be very hard, and allow for cross faction teamwork. err ... and while were at it.

Shoving a BO into a lower (max tier 3) ship, and have it fly next to you at admiral rank. with a few customizations like your own ship has but .. no ship devices ... or so... no more then one ship though!

More unity for the federation! :P

    there you go :)

i am very happy with how the game evolves.

sure there is a LOT to do, but i'm confident that Cryptic will get arround to everything in time.

so i just concentrate on the killer features

    for 2011:

    - DirectX 11 ...we have seen a option for that on Tribble so they are working on it without talking about it... want to see!

    - Proper Anti Aliasing ...whatever this is supposed to be, it is not proper Anti Aliasing

    - any improvement for Endgame will do, be it better PvP (not only nerfing and buffing, but new Maps and more importantly more diffrent gameplay modes! we have Team Deathmatch ...ok now i want Capture the Flag, 1on1 instagib and whatever all those modes in Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament are called), some sort of OpenPVP, Raids, more and better Fleetactions...

    - Klingons to finally catch up (they are almost there, they just need a little more love on the lower tiers, especially Ships and more Klingon specific PvE Missions, the Weeklies are fine to fill out the gaps, but they don't realy feel klingon at times.)

    - Romulan Faction

    - Voice Overs ...SWTOR will hit big in that regard and i forsee Cryptic needing to up their game. I ran in so much situations the last few days where VO would realy add a lot to the Atmosphere.

A revised ground combat system that adds over the shoulder shooter style gameplay and reduces the number of squadmates for running missions single player.

I would like to see an adjustment to weapons so that the appearance of weapons is just a costume piece and the attack types are determined by items inserted into slots on your paperdoll. One item slot would determine your damage type (phaser, tetryon, etc...) while another would provide you with attack types (Your basic beam, sniper shot, wave attack, and so on)

I would like to see new ships, new alien parts, new places to visit.

    This idea or something similar

Starbase gameplay of some variety. This thread has a lot of good thoughts on the topic, I think this could even be expanded to include fleet owned starbases.

    - Open PvPvE sector (block), preferrably the Triangle
    - Romulans
    - some more Klingon clothing ... please?
    - clientside Starfleet uniform and ship visual toggle for NPCs and other players ("canon slider")
    - female Nausicaans
    - CO's Nemesis System and optional facial expressions
    - some Orion/Gorn/Nausicaan ship costumes for tiers 2-4
    - OCS and GHS ship prefixes as alternative to IKS (plus option of "no prefix" for Nausicaans)
    - proper LCARS :p
    - no wrong-era-refits on tier 5

Speaking of "cannon fodder" how about missions where you have actual "red shirts" along for the ride to get killed in horrid and unusual ways? It is a part of Star Trek.

I'm going against the flood here,
I want things to be removed.
Namely all those superpowers in space and on the ground. That where in the shows in some fashion but are completely different in the game that only their name is the same.

For get that science is a combat class that needs combat abilities, it is not, and should never have been.

Drop all the classes and levels let use chose our skills freely and determine what branch we belong to by our choice of skills. Instead of levels just have a counter with skillpoints spend.
Rework ranks so that we only rank up if we fulfill certain important story missions

Rework ships, get rid of the tiers, they make no sense, a tier1 battleship with 10k hp? lol
Give each ship a fixed base value for hull, slots etc.
A typhoon class battleship is a typhoon class battleship no matter in which zone it is or which mission.

Don't scale missions for teams by simply add more enemies to kill. that invalidates the entire concept of the usefulness of a team. Missions are easier solo because you get less swamped in enemies.

Get rid of all those instances, make the universe a big place, right now its tiny. Team on ESD, tailor appointment on DS9, battle the borg in Gamma for the afternoon. supper on Drozana.

Less borg missions, more story line missions that progress the game.

    Rework the uniform system.
Its just clothing, IF i find a smith that makes me a orion metal bikini i can wear it, when i find a tailor that makes me a admirals suit, or steals it i can wear it. None of these duty/off-duty stuff as well.

Better space flight modes, those 60degree tilt is .... in space there is no limit how much you can tilt, angle or turn.
Longer weapon ranges in space, remove full impulse it doesn't drains all ship power in the shows.
We have already the 4 stages of impulse used in the shows, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full use them instead.

Less magic healing spam, more durable ships instead.

No more ground foes that run up with pistols till they sit in your lap to shot you. ugh.

Less root/hold/stun powers effects in general, they are just a poor mans tool to make combats look difficult, while all they do is annoy the players.

Off the top of my head..

    - Basic Ship Interior functions (Chief Medical Officer, Chief Engineer, Bartender, Crafting in the lab)
    - Enterprise-C
    - Oberth Class (Tier 0 for Science Officers)
    - Optional open PvP (Galaxy wide)
    - Ability to send Sector wide distress calls
    - New space Fleet Actions (ie : Super Borg cube)
    - Optional System to System travel via Bridge

These ideas are awesome. Regarding Basic Ship Interior Functions, why not add in a limited ability to beam up away team members to sickbay for a quick heal should they be about to die? These could be limited to two or three times per mission. As for the bar tender, the community could help develop star-trek jokes for the bar tender to say which, when correctly answered, give a very small number of skill points or BO points. I'm not sure about crafting, though. I'm open to any suggestions.

Moving on to your suggestion about the Enterprise-C, I really like this, but can't you already customize the Celestial class cruiser to look like one? If this is true, the Enterprise-C wouldn't be needed.

Open PVP, distress calls, new space fleet actions, optional system to system travel via bridge

Open PVP is something that should have been added in long ago. Secondly, the super boss proposal is an awesome idea. Keep making the challenges greater, so we don't get bored. Lastly, the system to system travel via the bridge feature would be very cool, but will probably take a require of programming. I think it would be wiser to push this aside to let them work on more important considerations such as new factions and new missions.

That leads to another idea - the ability to trade landing party members during a mission. If one is downed tranport them to sickbay and replace them with another BO or a seurity officer. It would also allow the player to swap up strategies midmission too.

Agreed. If your ship is in orbit, and there are no energy fields blocking transport, it's only logical to include this swapping function.

Thanks, it could even add to missions where you would have to beam down an NPC character for part of it. A specialist or something. We already beam NPC's up to our ships so why not down?

PVP needs to be worked first.
Pvp is about as basic as pvp can get. And it will not take much resources to make it better.

Ranking System, More scenarios. Thats it.

PVE, has lots already, and with the foundry comming, PVE, is good for now.

I'd actually like to see a weekly involving an as yet unseen alternate Trek Universe get involved with the game verse where we'd have to work with them to stop both if not all alternate universes from being destroyed. It could give the devs a chance to play their own "what if" with development, etc., as well as yield new mission rewards and C Store stuff.

My suggestion (if the lawyers would let them) would be to base the alternate starfleet ships on Gabriel Koerner's Enterprise.

Getting rid of the tiers is something I argued for in another thread earlier today. Having a numbered tier system creates an arbitrary ranking system that doesn't allow for ship upgrades or makes ancient 23rd century ships stronger than 24th century ships. For example, an excelsior class refit is not stronger than a Galaxy class cruiser. Adding to your suggestion, ships should have a fixed hull, but weapons and console slots shouldn't be fixed. Why shouldn't a miranda be able to be refitted to carry more ship weapons and consoles?

For mission scaling, I don't agree with you in how the difficulty should be set, but I do agree with you that just adding more enemies isn't very original. There should be a greater difficulty when the team is larger, and missions could be structured in different ways besides just adding enemies. For example, you could get attacked by the same number of ship, but the ships are now stronger. They also use new attack strategies. Like the Kaison shuttle ramming attack on the Voyager, enemies use new kamikazee strategies to damage your ship. There could even be a mission where a surpise attack like this forces your ship to crash land on a nearby planet where you have to salvage parts to repair your ship. There is also the possibility for more hit and run attack strategies where small fleets of pirates attack you, and you must chase them into the planet's atmosphere where they have set traps for you.

Regarding the larger instances idea, I think there should be the option of micro instancing (galaxy map with smaller instances being missions) and macroinstancing (PVP open territory squabbles and small sections of the galaxy where you must fight NPC factions to expand your mini trade empire).

Tribble is a small community by comparison and more prone to attracting the kind of people who want to do more in the game rather than the casual players.
    Startruck wrote:
Star Trek has one of the largest mod communities in gaming history, from FPS shooters to RTS, to text based muds. STO is going to tap into that community more and more as people see what can be done.
Being a modder and being a good modder are two totally seperate things. I have seen people mod games with some amazing tricks to create new moves/weapons etc in the game that were never thought possible before. Unfortunately, their ideas with regards to storyline were severely lacking and despite the contraversial tricks, the mod they created just sucked overall.

On the other hand, you get mods to games like Thief. The Dark Mod and T2X were particularly good although they contained nothing really new from the original game. T2X had a different character and story but that was about all.

If anyone remembers LancersReactor, a web site that had dozens of mods for Freelancer. Of all the mods that were available for download, you could count the ones worth downloading on one hand really. It had loads of modders contributing but only a very small number that did anything of note.

I used to work with modders before a lot of games came out with modding tools. I guess you'd class me as a hacker because I pulled the game data apart to see how things could be inserted, new models and stuff like that. I only worked with single player games though and was instrumental in allowing several modders to incorporate NPC vehicles for players to use in a couple of games. So you can see, I've had quite a lot of ecxperience with modding in one way or another and past experience with modders is where I can draw my conclusions from. So trust me when I say that, in a large community, there will not be very many very good modders. A few very good and a load of mediochre at best.

Out of curiosity... You don't play a Tactical Officer, do you?
I don't like the operative kit, to be honest. It's also tac-specific, where I'm more looking for something that would be a little fluff reward for completing the Romulan series that starts on the 29th.
(Yes, I play a tac officer "main", but the operative kit didn't occur to me when I wrote that post this morning.)

Also looks like the other things I wanted are ingame in some form, but I've never seen aux to battery as a tac captain.

    Friendly Targeting needs some love..

For example currently friendly targeting changes itself based on who your enemy is targeting, which for the purposes of healing, buffing or indeed SELF healing is an ABSOLUTe obstacle.

We need it changed so the friendly target is fixed unless we select someone else so that we have control over where our heals and buffs go more directly.

i would actually like to be able to have a influeance on the game world . the current game is very static and unchanging , you never see a planet fall to the KDF , i just dont get the feeling im interacting with any kind of a dynamic universe =)
i would like to be incharge off my own mini fleet that i could upgrade and feel im in charge of a task force rather than just running about pointlessly in a single ship . my idea would be your fleet ships would be damagable and need to be towed to space dock and repaired for a modest fee , giving the game a small money sink .generaly i just feel the whole whole staic pve world that never changes is old school and a dynamic that has never changed since everquest 1 , im bored with it =p .
anyone who has played starfleet command or legacy will have an idea what i mean with being incharge of a fleet .
i know alot of people are happy with there avatar gear grind , but tbh its been done so many times over the years its getting lame . i expected and hoped for more in this game .

I also want to see old "Friends" like Sela or Tomalak in the Romulan episodes.

Seriously, last time we've seen Tomalak he looked like he was in perfect health an no older than 120 Years so he could still be around... if he didn't die due to a sudden outbreak of backstabbing.
Also this would be an opportunity to honor the late Andreas Katsulas with a Mission. (I just thought of the moment Picard "owned" Tomalak in "The Defector" that was one of THE moments in TNG.)
